  • I first heard this one (and Forest Lawn) on the "Take Me To Tomorrow" LP by John Denver. This is one of the most powerful anti-war songs I've ever heard....

  • my dad introduced me to Tom-I like this and forest lawn

    Thanx Dad!

  • i really like the 60's and the 70's

  • What makes this song so powerful (as so many others by Paxton, e.g., "I was so beautiful", "When I go to see my son", "Billy got some bad news today", etc) is that the main point is never articulated. It is all happening in the background.

  • This is a clasic I love it Cant get enough of Tom Paxton

  • I've not heard this song for years. I think some of the "awkward" chord changes prevent this song from being a even greater song. It needs a stronger tune and more flowing chords to make this a true classic. In my opinion!

  • This is not the best version of Jimmy Newman I have heard but the idea is simple, it is called a coda. It was a song that moved a nation.

  • just incase no one has heard this nice song before, and i don't mean to insult anyone's intelligance, jimmy newman is dead, that's why he won't get up. thank you for posting.

  • One of the marching songs for the anti war protests of the 60's

  • Oh wow! I can't believe i found this TP classic. One of the best folk songs ever.

  • The saddest song ever written

  • Tom Paxton, one thousand thanks.
