hey i am trying to create this text effect in motion 5 but mine is not exactly coming along as well. Do i follow the same steps or is motion 5 a lil different? great video by the way. I will be so much happier once i lear how to do this. thanks

@mobabyproductions I haven't really used Motion 5 much. You can try and do it the same way, but the user interface is a little different. I may make a video in the future that shows how to do it.

I created this the other day with no problem. Then i updated my system to 10.6.6 everything works except Motion 4. Can you shed some light on what may be causing this. I even re-installed it and it did the same thing. Thanks!

@johngreasy I am not sure... You can't open it at all? I am using Motion 4 on 10.6.6 and it works for me. Are you sure everything's up to date?

@ConnorCrosbyPrdctns Yeah everything is up to date as of today. It was fine I was running 6.0 when I was checking out your tutorial on motion the other night. I saw the link for the other company so I decided to check it out. I downloaded the free plug ins from Fx Factory. When I went back into Final Cut the program window started going in and out by when I would click the mouse. I just rebooted it and it was fine no biggie. Then I tried to go into motion and it would open then close quickly. ?

@MatthewVandeputte when you press record it sets the keyframes by itself, you don't need to go to each option and set one. It just makes it faster. I am glad you liked it.

I can't seem to get the light effect to work...I've clicked object, add light and it's there in my layers but no effects have come in...I've tried tweaking the different settings and no result...

@maxchina09 I am not sure. Are your layers 3D? Also move your text layers in Z space because it may be in front of the light.

@wideeyewonder I am glad you found it helpful! It is possible to do the same effect, however it won't be as easy and you won't be able to have lights.

You would basically change the size (since you cannot change the Z space).

I try to use presentation large, but there is no blue outline like yours..

@ammaerz I used HDTV broadcast or something like that. To get the blue lines, turn on title safe. You can do that by pressing a drop down button in the upper right. Not the big buttons at the top but the ones below it, I forget exactly where. Enjoy Motion :D

ok so random question.. I got everything working, but for some reason when i have my fade in/out action in the timeline, it takes away my light and gradient.. once i delete it its back to normal.. but it looks idd without the fade ins.. help??

@uZzMontageXx it all depends on your video that you will be using along with the text. If your video is shot in 1280x720 high definition, then use that preset. If you shot in 4:3 then choose that one. If it will be just text and put on YouTube, maybe make it 16:9. Thanks for watching Connor Tuts.

I'm having trouble with one part. After I enlarge the text on frame 1, when I go back to set the center point on frame 10, when I go back to frame 9-1 my text has disappeared. Any idea why this would be happening? I'm doing it the exactly the same way as you are in the tutorial. Thanks.

Really? I am guessing the settings are messed up for those frames and it causes that distortion. Hard to say where it what is causing it. Check back in a little bit for a download link in the sidebar. Hopefully you can just download the file and change the text. I am thinking about making another CLEARER tutorial of this. It may be there, but you can't see it. Check your layers pallet and see if it is there. Make sure your HUD is on so you can adjust the settings of the light. If it isn't there, then I am not sure why it is doing that. Thanks for watching Connor Tuts!

Hi, I've been following your tutorial and all was going well until i went into the OBJECT menu and found there wasn't a NEW LIGHT button to choose. where would this be or where & how can i add it to my Motion object menu? I am using Motion 2

you can try adding the light effect by tinting the text a color you want and adding a mask and feathering it so you have it looking like a light. Hope that helps! BTW, I use motion 3 and I don't know if they have lights in 2. Thanks for watching!
