I was in the foster system for 4 years. I was never touched but was severely mentally abused. I'd get told what a piece of shit I was and that I would never accomplish anything made to be a slave in 6 different homes. DHS never believed what I was going through and just gave me a hard time.. I ended up getting a severe ear infection which caused me to be deaf in my right ear and was told by my foster mother that I was faking the ear infection for attention. I had it for 8 months. TERRIBLE SYSTEM
There is no question that the foster system is a failed system. About 92% of foster children end up bouncing from one bad place to the next, denied a family. Because of this, they have no choice but to defend their parents, simply because they are the lesser of two evils. Parents are doing this to the children, not CPS. It is ultimately up to the parents to provide stability and safety to make sure CPS never has to intervene. This is not a conspiracy. There are too many drug addict parents.

Why are you so defensive of CPS?? Like any profession I am sure CPS also has its bad apples. I have also heard of CPS leaving kids with bad parents, only to hear later the child was killed or severely injured as a result. So it is clear something is broken here, and all aspects of the system need to be looked at.
I was in fostercare because my mom worked too much I also was abused at my moms. I was abused an neglected my foster "dad" broke my nose then made me hide behind the shed to hide from my case worker. In the meantime, the foster mom was afraid she would get caught so she reported to the social wrkr that the dad beat the child while at a 'SUPERVISED VISIT".
@quixiotic1 Ok, see this is backwards as hell. A supervised visit has a court-appointed social worker that observes the interaction between the child and the parent. The foster parent is not even present during the visit. So to say that the foster mom was afraid to be caught and made up a story that the parent beat the child during a supervised visit simply doesn't fly. It seems like everyone who got their child "stolen" by CPS doesn't have a story that makes any sense!

I think it is highly innappropriate to show this boys face and to say his name. He is a minor and he is not in a position to consent to this material being publicised. This is highly innapropriate. This adult is behaving irresponsibly there is a way of making the point without exploiting this youth. I have nothing but respect for transparent, systems with high levels of accountability that prevent abuses of children. I do not propose secrecy in any way especially not when it comes to covering the mistakes of state workers however I can't believe that there is no system of doing this without doing further harm to the child which I believe this ultimately does. Privacy does not equal secrecy and this child is being used to make a point in a way that is innapropriate. Surely you can see that.

If a child has suffered trauma in their lives surely that should entitle them to further protection of instead of putting them in an even more vulnerable position as this does. With respect I think that you have faulty logic.
This child has nothing to be ashamed of - I think that if the truth were to be kept hidden from the world it would be far more damaging, to this child individually, and to the children of the world as a whole. I was a court advocate for domestic violence victims & their families. I saw a letter written by 2 boys being abused, faxed it to Jeb Bush who forwarded it back to DCF, this was not too long ago. Mother saw DCF Investigator leaving father's home @ 10 pm w/ "package" in hand more than once. Many of horror stories. They are true.
I was a court advocate & have heard many horror stories & seen letters from children written to Jeb Bush that were forwarded right back to DCF, the ones who were getting paid off to cover sexual abuse, etc.

I'm not sure about Florida, but in lots of cities they have a program called CASA. Court Appointed Special Advocate. It trains regular, caring individuals to take on ONE specific child in foster care, making sure they are safe and comfortable where they are placed and to monitor the relationships they have with their parents, caregivers and social worker. If every foster child had a CASA, judges could much more easily make decisions that help the child. Please consider becoming a CASA!
My grandchildren are in state custody. They were taken away because cps claimed abuse and neglect, neither of which there was. But it doesn't matter because they can claim what they want without proof. Yes there is an organization called CASA and I have yet to see them do anything except go along with what cps says. Cps has even more peopole working for them now its ten of them against my daughter and I and our worthless court appointed attorney it is a nightmare beyond nightmares

not all situations are like this. i was adopted, and my 3 youngest sisters were foster children. they were all sisters, 5 years old and younger, who had witnessed horror and violence and neglect by their birth parents that NO PERSON should EVER have to see. my parents decided to foster children in order to save children like these little girls. the original intent was to place them back with their parents, but their parents were incapable of even attending visitations.
after about a year, these girls started calling their parents by their first names, and asking if they could call my parents "mommy" and "daddy". when BOTH the parents DROPPED parental rights (they didn't want these beautiful girls anymore?!?), they came up for adoption, so after almost 4 years in our home, they got to change their names and were by law a part of the family that they already belonged to by love.

i'm 12 and i seldom get beaten up from my mom but she does abuse me for no reason. today in the car after i went to a docter she left me there and made me wait for 2hours and then picked me up and after she did she snatch my phone out of my hands and threw it to the ground and punched me in the face and she made me kneel down in the toilet. if i tried to get up she'd take a stick and wacked me 10 times which she did.....

There, from the ages of 9 to 10 or 11, he was beaten and burned by older kids in the home, with the pictures as evidence. The Greens burned him too. I was in fostercare because my mom worked too much I also was abused at my moms. I was abused an neglected my foster "dad" broke my nose then made me hide behind the shed to hide from my case worker. I was thrown down stairs, punched alot of horrific things. this stuff is real. an Im disgusted. is this really better for kids then to leave them with their parents?????? My case worker didnt believe me. Great system.

My gr-daughter was beat by the foster mom at 4 yrs old. She reported the beating to the social worker but the s/w said...oh kids always make things up. In the meantime, the foster mom was afraid she would get caught so she reported to the social wrkr that the dad beat the child while at a 'SUPERVISED VISIT".

@quixiotic1 Ok, see this is backwards as hell. A supervised visit has a court-appointed social worker that observes the interaction between the child and the parent. The foster parent is not even present during the visit. So to say that the foster mom was afraid to be caught and made up a story that the parent beat the child during a supervised visit simply doesn't fly. It seems like everyone who got their child "stolen" by CPS doesn't have a story that makes any sense!

I think it is highly innappropriate to show this boys face and to say his name. He is a minor and he is not in a position to consent to this material being publicised. This is highly innapropriate. This adult is behaving irresponsibly there is a way of making the point without exploiting this youth. He also seems not to be aware of question types and should be more conscious of himself with regard to the child.

I have nothing but respect for transparent, systems with high levels of accountability that prevent abuses of children. I do not propose secrecy in any way especially not when it comes to covering the mistakes of state workers however I can't believe that there is no system of doing this without doing further harm to the child which I believe this ultimately does. Privacy does not equal secrecy and this child is being used to make a point in a way that is innapropriate. Surely you can see that.

i don't dispute any argument related to the behaviour of the CPS workers. I have no knowledge of your system over there. However using a child in this way is not right. Could the story not be told while concealing his identity. It is not in his best interests.Many people in adulthood choose not to reveal info like this to the world for very valid reasons. This child is not being given an opportunity to make an informed choice. Its wrong and unfortunate for a child to be used this way.

I was a court advocate for domestic violence victims & their families. I saw a letter written by 2 boys being abused, faxed it to Jeb Bush who forwarded it back to DCF, this was not too long ago. Mother saw DCF Investigator leaving father's home @ 10 pm w/ "package" in hand more than once. Many of horror stories. They are true.

I'm not sure about Florida, but in lots of cities they have a program called CASA. Court Appointed Special Advocate. It trains regular, caring individuals to take on ONE specific child in foster care, making sure they are safe and comfortable where they are placed and to monitor the relationships they have with their parents, caregivers and social worker. If every foster child had a CASA, judges could much more easily make decisions that help the child. Please consider becoming a CASA!

My grandchildren are in state custody. They were taken away because cps claimed abuse and neglect, neither of which there was. But it doesn't matter because they can claim what they want without proof. Yes there is an organization called CASA and I have yet to see them do anything except go along with what cps says. not all situations are like this. i was adopted, and my 3 youngest sisters were foster children. they were all sisters, 5 years old and younger, who had witnessed horror and violence and neglect by their birth parents that NO PERSON should EVER have to see. my parents decided to foster children in order to save children like these little girls. the original intent was to place them back with their parents, but their parents were incapable of even attending visitations.

after about a year, these girls started calling their parents by their first names, and asking if they could call my parents "mommy" and "daddy". when BOTH the parents DROPPED parental rights (they didn't want these beautiful girls anymore?!?), they came up for adoption, so after almost 4 years in our home, they got to change their names and were by law a part of the family that they already belonged to by love.
this video is the exception, and while it happens and is sad, it's not the norm

There, from the ages of 9 to 10 or 11, he was beaten and burned by older kids in the home, with the pictures as evidence. The Greens burned him too. After many indifferent social workers, a good one came along and put him before a judge, who gave him back to his mother.

I am just glad that, FINALLY, someone was on his side. Who knows if he'd even be alive today if he hadn't been saved. I feel happy for him now. He's where he's really loved and not hurt.

I live in florida. And this is a ongoing problem in this state. They take kids from their parents for stupid fucking reasons and place them in abusive fosterm homes. There was a case where a foster family that had a foster child MOVED out of the state. The child they had was kidnapped by a child predator and killer her.

I Love this video and the person who made it great work i am currently going to school to become a social worker and plan to work WITH CPS and the reason why i have chose to do this is because i want to change the system even if i have to single handily do it alone by myself it will change and child abuse will be put to a stop once and for all mark my words you can take that to the grave with you and put me on a pedestal IT WILL BE DONE!!!

No, he should tell authorities. There is something called confidentiality - the right not to have his story told to the world. How is this kid going to feel in six years, ten years, fifteen...when someone recognises him as "the abused youtube kid" - the child has a right to be protected absolutely, but he also has the right not to be exploited!

An example, Dave Pelzer "A Child Called It" author decided to share his story when he was an adult, a decision he could make on his own, for himself, and he totally understood the ramifications it would have for years to come. My heart cries for this boy - but I also feel it's inappropriate to showcase him. He should speak out against it - but he deserves the right to safety, treatment, and a chance to grow up without being a showcase piece.
