This video was in the mid 80's , you kind of wonder what he sounds like now 2011. I met this angel like person in San Marcos, Tx. ,to his surprise people cheered when he looked over his equipment before the show started. He just smiled and waved at the crowd. A true musician .
Wow! Great piece. Eric Johnson is certainly one of the all time greats however he can't write a commercial song to save his life (not that I like commercial music, but I do like good quality songs from time to time.) This and Cliffs of Dover are his best.
Why should he write a "commercial" song anyway? Anything particularly good about that except for an increased income for the artist? "Popular music" aka "Pop" mirrors the fact that most people on this planet aren't capable of acknowledging or even appreciating true musical genius.. they simply listen to whatever superficial slush that soothes their weak intellects, unfortunately this makes people that are mediocre at best into so-called "superstars". Quality is not defined by popular opinion...
As long as we're being anal, I think it is correct if you were to call it an acoustic or classical guitar. A classical guitar is an acoustic with a difference of the modern steel strings, instead using mainly nylon, making it classical sounding, at least.
a classical guitar is an acoustic instrument is it not? therefor its an acoustic guitar. "acoustic guitar" isnt a kind or brand of guitar. it just refers to the instrument being acoustic, and not electric.
@polishcomedy pinch harmonics don't require the use of a pick, one can do the same thing a pick does with thumb/finger. i do it on bass when i feel frisky. however, you are correct, those are most definitely artificial harmonics.

The pinch harmonics sounds like heaven

1. That's a classical guitar, not an acoustic.
2. Those are not pinch harmonics, but artificial, or harp harmonics. Pinch requires the use of a pick.
3. Yes, Eric is the master.
