  • i only get 30mbps on a 100mbps plan with this. i have had to return 2 of these.

  • Yeah...you sound like you're about 5 years old...sorry to be mean, but it was a good video. Lol

  • guys i saw them router in Dubai-UAE for 380 DHs and i am wondering if this router is worth the money and if its good for online gaming?

    thanks.

  • that comment wasn't for the author of this video, but aimed for the kids who doesn't grasp why it's not giving you 300mbps

  • if you wan't great speed over your LAN, use a fucking switch, jesus kids.

  • how did you set up you settings configurations to get the 300mbps speeds?

  • @dssk8r 300mbps is only theoretical it'll be a loooooooong time if wireless speeds ever reach that high, right now they're only about 1/4 of that speed. besides most peoples internet connections are 50mbps or less, so 300 isn't possible anyway, if its a wired connection going through the LAN ports, thats different.

P.S. good video kid, most adults don't do a realistic video such as yours.

  • Agree with (sethcorn) Nice review kiddo. definitely sold this product good - ordered one just now :)

  • This router is junk!!! They really failed to deliver things promised on the box. TOTAL FAIL!! D-link

  • @srb1380 this router is awesome... have had no issues for 2 years and connection strength and speed has always been good... router is upstairs and my pc is down stairs, so it goes through the floor and several walls before getting to my pc... full bars on my pc signal...so i'n my book its the bomb...you must be a noob :)

  • It's also 802.11 dual band and supports up to 5 ghz for wired/wireless gaming.

  • @mcdus78 Wow give him a break, I'm pretty sure he only said that once and it's an easy mistake to make. There are professional reviewers who would accidentally say that kind of stuff multiple times during a video. You know the difference because you're a computer engineer, well, stick to that - don't ever be a teacher; you're too condescending!

  • Correction! 300 Mega "Bits" per second kiddo. No super computer can save a 300 megabyte file in a second and no super wireless router, not even yours can transmit 300 megabytes per second of data in a second. Just so you know. Welcome to the 21st century. I know coz I'm a computer engineer.

  • Correction! 300 Mega "Bits" per second kiddo. Welcome to the 21st century.

  • good review , i have had one four 3 year , keep up the good work

  • The software isn't compatible with Mac, but you can set it up with a Windows PC and then share the internet with Macs+others right?

(I recently got this with my friend for her work, so I gave her my discount at this electronic place I work, forgetting to take into account her OS)

  • Good review. Looks like I'm buying this router

  • thanks bro

  • Very, very good review my friend. I do hope to see more from you in the future. You take the review with a nice pace and you are very "inclusive" and generalized which I absolutely love. Stick with reviewing the things that you personally enjoy and have a tangible passion for, and you will do phenomenally. Thumbs up and I will be always be dropping by in the future to see what is new. Take care and keep it up...

  • Nice!

  • You just answered all my questions. I love you (no homo) thakns.

    :D

I bought this router in eBay for $50 so i got a half price discount. i know im lucky.

  • Useful For DSL direct, Adsl, Adsl2, and Cable Internet provider.

  • nice work kid

  • Thanks for tips for the best range. I'm definitely gonna try that.

  • nice review of range test

  • will this work for alienware and a ps3

  • @XxsneakybastardxX ya i just got it works great

  • Just a question, is the modem built in?

  • watda bout upside down? xD

  • Good review, but one thing, you meant to say megabits per sec not bytes. but very well done for a kid your age

  • does it need to connect to the cable modem? or can you use it without it?

  • Great review!

fwiw, i tested this router for "wired" transfer rates and basically averaged about 28.6 MB/s downloading from WAN to LAN and around 25 MB/s uploading from LAN to WAN. This is around 200 megabits/sec of transfer. Not quite a gigabit but I'm not complaining.

It's a great router for sure. I just had to do the "wired" transfer tests on my LAN to make sure that it could handle some new 107 Mbps transfer rates being offered in my area.

  • Great review, but my question is why do you have one of those? (judging by your voice, I'm assuming you are 10-13?) I am very impressed by your knowledge of this thing! Nice review!

  • ok and the instant test for vertical vs horizontal blew my mind. had NO IDEA that mattered

  • a very very good review kid. far better than what most that have been posted for this product, Not advertising. not blwoing smoke. just tellin us what it is. what it does.

  • very nice, on the range test, r u using dlink as a bridge access? (wired to dlink and dlink is picking up wireless from netgear?), very good video.

  • More people should pay attention to this video to see how a product review should be done. Unboxing videos are useless on a product that has a functional purpose like a router.

I have this router and it's good but there are still some issues which still have not been resolved with the latest firmware vers. 1.34NA.

  • Can i hook this router up wired also? from my modems ethernet port to this router? or is it only wireless?

  • @DirtyTownSouth yeah

  • @DirtyTownSouth u can do wired

  • hey do u think u can help me out with a problem i have

  • good job dude you told what people want to know besides althose other retards get to the range testtt

  • i need some help. i wanna change the password on the router. how do i do it?

  • Nice review. A tip to keep people gripped for longer. Try to be "to the point" as possible and keep the video length short as well. If you watch a lot of "pros" they tend to follow that strategy.

Nice test of the horizontal vs vertical too, by the way. You'll be on G4 or CNET in no time :D

  • 300Megabit not 300Megabytes.

  • GJ a great review and tests to back it up.

  • yes you are correct, i have a netgear router and i have to stand it up to get good signal in my back yard and up stairs in the far back room. good review

  • Great video! I too use this router and I'm very happy with it. I like it because it made putting my XBox 360 in the DMZ very easy.

  • I've been thinking about getting a new router. but it says something about getting full speed by using 802.11n you need a compatible client. What does that mean?

Not very good in wireless, modem and Internet stuffs.

  • i just bought this router and i hooked it up on my old router.i tried playing online wit my ps3 but it doesnt connect and the wifi light flashes.can you help me out?

  • can you connect a usb hub to the media share port?

  • theres a button under the thing to hold up to router wats thats for??

  • i need help ... i just got this and i put all my passwords and stuff and i get on the internet on my laptop, but on my ps3 it wont let me conect to it, peasee tell me how to fix!!!!@!@!@@!@!@!!

  • will this make you have a latency problem aka lag on xbox live or something?

  • you have your router upside down....

  • I just bought this one to replace my VERY OLD D-Link DI-704. I can say myself that yes this is a very good router that has nice security features and puts out very nice speeds for sure. By the way kid try mounting it up away from your electronics you will get even better connection at least I did mine went from about 75 percent to about 87 when I mounted it up high about a meter and a half away from all electronics might work try it out ;) but yeah this router rocks ;)

  • Great review; well done!

I have this router, and it's a great router.

  • hey im just wondering, my router lights are blinking really fast ...is that alright? its the 2 blue lights on the right side, or on the bottom for you.

  • I'm sorry... but I don't see how that was a range test for the D-Link router. It seemed a lot more like a signal interference test for the NetGear one.

    Otherwise, great review.

  • anyone please tell me what the button does ontop, had this router for years never worked out what the button does. its on the end of the router its a square silver button

  • It is the WPS button, I've used it many times to our computers at home and it works perfectly :)

  • If you ever need help downgrading from a 1.3x Firmware back to 1.21 then i have no problem helping, just send me a message thru here and i'll respond.

It says in the Dlink site that its NOT downgradeable, but NOTHING is impossible. Just acouple of simple steps to follow thats too long to post here. Let me know,

  • I seriously need help with this router... I have my Xbox 360 hooked up via ethernet cable with this router and I can't host in games. I never had the problem before until now but whenever I get host, other people either get disconnected or have extreme connection issues. I've called customer support and I can hardly understand the people they put on the line nor do they help solve my problem. Can someone please help me?

  • @KingKeats go to the online settings for the router and reset the router ... and then change the settings around.... and go to 5ghz and it should work

  • YOU HAVE THE DIR-655 Router UP SIDE DOWN I Have the same one the. THERE IS a u blue light button press Wi-Fi Protected Setup is used to easily add devices to a network using a PIN like blackberry ect... But Devices must support Wi-Fi Protected Setup in order to be configured by this method is on the top of the dir-655 but u have it up side down man nice video xD

  • theres is 8 mega bits in a megabyte so therefore wireless n can only reach speeds of up to 37 mbps. if you think about it, it isnt as fast as you would expect

  • this is msg for ppl who want to buy a new router, i bought this router last night the dir-655 and i was about to buy the dgl-4500 well let me tell u its for sure dgl-4500 is better but for 300$ i payed 160$ for the dir-655 and let me tell u ppl its the dam best router i ever had so for those who were still questioning on which one to get well u got my opinion DIR-655

  • dude!! this person reviewing the product is a total retard "300 megabytes per-second on wireless" i fucking wish ....and "1GB per second transfer over a wired connection" ....wtf!! it's megabits not megabytes... where 1 megabit = 0.125 megabytes get your facts right kid...

  • dude relax why u trippin point is i got the answer i wanted from this kid so...he made a mistake so fkin wat at least he took the time to make a video to help ppl so wtf is ur problem? ur probably a kid too moron lmfao

  • I'm with sethcorn, great video man.

    TDM

  • what are you like 10?

  • Why do you have 2 wireless routers?

  • Probably one for wireless-g and one for wireless-n. Lowest common denominator. When you have a g device connected to a wireless-n router, the fastest speeds you can get via wireless are 54mbps. I will probably keep my current wireless-g router and set it up as a bridge so I can have my g devices connect to that router and have n devices connect to the n signal.

  • If your referring to what he has the DIR-655 sitting on top of. That's actually an SMC Cable gateway provided by Comcast when you have a business line. It has the modem built into it, so he could turn the DIR-655 into an access point if he wishes, or shut off DHCP on the SMC.

  • I wasn't really paying attention to his setup, I was just explaining why some one would want two routers on one network.

  • does it blink when it is fully set up?

  • should i get this one or get the DGL-4500? :)

  • i have 1, but i dont get connection, when i plug it in to the wall, i dont get internet -.-

    do you know why?

  • connect it through a gateway/modem

  • good review. you said the wireless can do 300 megabytes per second, did you mean megabits?

  • Good review kid... you do a better job than most adults.... I'm gonna get one of these
