I find that KH II has all the appeal KH had and all the appeal it couldn't manage to obtain.
Just played this game again for the first time in 5 year on Proud mode. Man this game is linear lol. Plus it was easy. I never used any of my magic spells, summons, nor drive unless it was at the Underground Coliseum (where I had to use it).

Great review. I'm obviously a Kingdom Hearts fan, but I gotta say that the difficutly in KH2 is way too much of a drawback to this game. The first one was very difficult in standar mode, especially when you fight Ansem countless times. This version of KH was just way too easy, although still very enjoyable. I didn't have much of a hard time beating Sephiroth in this game like I did in Kingdom Hearts I.
@pjoser14 no this game's story was very confusing and complicated that by near the end of the game I didn't even try to make sense out of it and just played the game till its ending. Games like FFVII, FFX, Fallout 3, Mass Effect 1-2 have way better stories this game. I am not saying this game is bad its gameplay is awesome and it has alot of great rpg elements and great graphics considering its ps2 and disney characters have also been used very well I just don't like the story.

And of course there gonna leave questions unanswered, its not the last game in the series, but they did a good job at keeping you interested with the story while making it easy to follow, again just my opinion.

its that true, kingdom of hearts 1 had a very difficult gameplay stile and kingdom of hearts 2 is very easy beacuse the enemys we have lows bar life a exeception (final mix) but have very difficult when play critical mode its how play god of war for example when play in titan.

The less I like of Kingdom Hearts 2 is that in the beginning you don't know what the hell is going on (even more if you hadn't played KH CoM), Yen Sid teaches you some things, and after that there's no clue about the main story (Kairi, Riku...) until the Heartless War. It's always: you arrived into a new world, "Have you seen Riku of king Mickey?", "No", "Ugh", "Can you help me?", "Sure!"... KH 1 was full of emotion, and when Sora use the keyblade to extract Kairi's heart... it was EPIC.

KH2 was a fuck up no matter which way you look at it. Luckily, games like 358/2 and Birth by Sleep have really brought back the feel of the original game (mostly in the areas of difficulty and area design). I'm hopeful that KH3 will make up for all of KH2's shortcomings.

@13nbui Birth by Sleep is really good, I agree, but 358/2 isn't as button-mashy as KH2 and I'm pretty sure it's been the most difficult game thus far in the series if you don't go into missions equipped accordingly (like using a Keyblade made for ground combos on an aerial enemy).
@KeystaffMaster no not really proud mode isnt difficult i played days in proud and though it was easy, critical mode on re coded, and birth by sleep is way harder the enemies 2~3hit ko you even with good stats, and when i was playing days all i did was use the attack button and use healing magic/items.
@evanlikestopa Agreed. KH1 is overall the better game in my opinion. The combat is deeper and requires more thought, the environments not as linear or claustrophobic, the story more coherent, the bosses more imaginative, and the longevity of the game was better as well. That's not to say KH2 was a bad game, far from it, I just don't think that KH2 innovated on the first game in any meaningful way and was more of a devolution than an evolution in terms of gameplay, level-design and story-telling.

@doggynog Everyone has their opinion and I have to agree with his. Even in proud mode, I still find it easy to progress if I just keep hitting the x button. That, and the story just seems to have taken a mind of its own and seems to involve Disney less and less as each game goes on. The game is fun, and I do love the Kingdom Hearts series, but minus some control pains, I'd rather play the first Kingdom Hearts game. Great, easy to follow story with an original idea and nostalgic memories.
@doggynog yes it is, the combat is dull and unchallenging, most of the boss battles use cheap quick time events that drain a lot of the enemies health. Square Enix thankfully took note and created Birth by sleep.

A little too negative. The battles arent anything different from the first aside the fact it feels more fluid and graceful. Thew game can be linear, however i felt part of the story of the different Disney movies as they cleverly make Sora and his pals somewhat of a main character to that actual movie. I'm a little saddened that they seemed to cut the nobodies from the story for a long chunk of the game but that was my experience. I love this game and I can hardly wait for birth by sleep too

the game is noticeably simplistic, even on proud difficulty, witch you should start the game on if you have any sense to, also getting the secret movie at the end is alot less time consuming. I however got caught up in the story, not the gameplay. after i got the opening songs from both KH1 and KH2 I quit the SquareEnix/Disney games, probably for good ^^.
yea this has way to many cutscenses but I still love it. As said before it may be better as a movie. A REALLY LONG MOVIE. The fights are easy. But I will always still play it.

I agree on the difficulty it was easy but not as easy as you said it was.
Some things were pretty hard lik the Demyx batlle and Sephiroth sub boss.
I also DO like the gummi ship missions and do them all the time but thats just me.

@13nbui Birth by Sleep is really good, I agree, but 358/2 isn't as button-mashy as KH2 and I'm pretty sure it's been the most difficult game thus far in the series if you don't go into missions equipped accordingly (like using a Keyblade made for ground combos on an aerial enemy).

@KeystaffMaster no not really proud mode isnt difficult i played days in proud and though it was easy, critical mode on re coded, and birth by sleep is way harder the enemies 2~3hit ko you even with good stats, and when i was playing days all i did was use the attack button and use healing magic/items.

@evanlikestopa Agreed. KH1 is overall the better game in my opinion. The combat is deeper and requires more thought, the environments not as linear or claustrophobic, the story more coherent, the bosses more imaginative, and the longevity of the game was better as well. That's not to say KH2 was a bad game, far from it, I just don't think that KH2 innovated on the first game in any meaningful way and was more of a devolution than an evolution in terms of gameplay, level-design and story-telling.

@doggynog Everyone has their opinion and I have to agree with his. Even in proud mode, I still find it easy to progress if I just keep hitting the x button. That, and the story just seems to have taken a mind of its own and seems to involve Disney less and less as each game goes on. The game is fun, and I do love the Kingdom Hearts series, but minus some control pains, I'd rather play the first Kingdom Hearts game. Great, easy to follow story with an original idea and nostalgic memories.

@doggynog yes it is, the combat is dull and unchallenging, most of the boss battles use cheap quick time events that drain a lot of the enemies health. Square Enix thankfully took note and created Birth by sleep.

I hate games with too many cutscenes and frequent, too much dialogue and unnecessary dialogue,. . I played this game for a few hours and I only did so because of all the hype surrounding KH series. But let me tell you, the world of KH while fascinating, it does not make a good video game.They should of just made a movie out of it. Which they probabaly will, to suck more money out of you! Why not?! It's only Disney and Sq.E , the biggest giants in their industries.

A little too negative. The battles arent anything different from the first aside the fact it feels more fluid and graceful. Thew game can be linear, however i felt part of the story of the different Disney movies as they cleverly make Sora and his pals somewhat of a main character to that actual movie. I'm a little saddened that they seemed to cut the nobodies from the story for a long chunk of the game but that was my experience. I love this game and I can hardly wait for birth by sleep too

@xAce9009x alot of people don't talki about it in the reviews because they either don't understand it or know it would take to long to explain and make sense of the story is one of the best parts of the game and the combat is great too yeah you won't get much out of it if you do only the main story but if you do sidequests like fighting sephiroth then you will be strategizing your butt off especially in the first one with the tournament

The only thing I don't like about KH2 is the feeling of the game that we gained with the first game. The first was more emotional and more nostalgic. But I still love this game no matter what.

Lol, I remember how I played through the game 3 times, then handing the controller to my sister the 4th time so she could experience it... XD then, I played chain of memories, bought a ps3 soon after completing that and the 1st one, after 5 hours of trying to beat the final boss, and now trying to save up for my (3rd) psp, just to play birth by sleep... damn... and i don't invest much into the series...

I bought this game a few years ago and tried and tried to like the game. I tried to play it and get past the boring shitty parts, as some rpgs have, but the whole thing was crap! You know what I actually did with this game? I threw it out the window of my car while driving. If you hate somebody, give them this game as a gift.

This was always why I thought the game was overrated. Just go X and Triangle on what's in front of you etc.

what i was trying to say is if you don't think ahead for boss battles your not gonna do that good
for example: some key-blades make it easier to beat THAT certain enemy than others, and the same with abilities,
Demyx may be easier to beat with Hero's Crest keyblade, and with some combo-boost abilities,
it all depends on the enemy, to me that's strategizing

the game is noticeably simplistic, even on proud difficulty, witch you should start the game on if you have any sense to, also getting the secret movie at the end is alot less time consuming. I however got caught up in the story, not the gameplay. after i got the opening songs from both KH1 and KH2 I quit the SquareEnix/Disney games, probably for good ^^.

yea this has way to many cutscenses but I still love it. As said before it may be better as a movie. A REALLY LONG MOVIE. The fights are easy. But I will always still play it.
