He's running for governor of Rhode Island now as an independent, and is(so far) leading in every poll conducted thus far. He's still immensely popular despite being voted out in favor of a Democrat.

Sarah Palin is not a moron. She has a clear and stellar track-record as governor of Alaska. Her residents have received record high oil subsidies and the schools in the state have improved dramatically. She loves and knows her constituents. She travels the state and maintains two offices + her home base. She meets with Alaskans everyday. It is crazy to say that she has no experience, considering she has more experience than Barack Obama and she was running for VP.

I agree that some of her interviews did not go well, but she still is an effective communicator and simply because she had a few mishaps doesn't mean she is incompetent and not ready to lead.

Where does Chafee stand on main issues other than Iraq? Like social issues and separation of church and state? I would never vote for a republican because their party stands for nothing I believe in but if I had to, I suppose I would vote for Chafee because he seems very different then other people in his party and he's not afraid to criticize his own, which I don't see too many from his party do. He seems to put his values, convictions and integrity before his party affiliation and I like that.
I remember seeing a Daily show interview with him back in 2006, and he comes from another generation of GOPers, where the GOP were a dominant force in New England, and those GOPers were mostly moderates. He remarked how he felt he was part of a diminishing circle of moderate republicans, how years ago there was a decent sized group of them and then back in 2006, there was like 4 left. He may have been on the left fringe of GOP, but the GOP has definitely strayed.
McCain was once a centrist republican like Chafee after all he and Chafee were the only senate republicans in 2001 to vote against Bush's Tax-cuts. But he sold his soul to the neo-conservative right. He originally wanted Jo Lieberman to even be his VP but he listened to the Rush Limbaughs and Karl Roves and chose Sarah Palin.
I actully like Chafee. I'm a small government liberterian leaning Republican, so we do share many differences. We disagree on Taxes, energy(I do support expansion of alternative sources, but I also support off shore drilling), and pretty much all economic issues (Other than social security+Free Trade). We agree on Iraq, the death penalty, gay rights,and abortion rights.
