  • u are the man Mr mike..listening to you..makes me sure that there are still good people in the US

  • Mr. Gravel we love you and keep speaking and doing the truth!!!!

  • i really dont agree with gravel, but at least he smells the bullshit thats going on

  • The man who should have been President but too many voters to dumb to realise it and i mean DUMB in capital letters.

  • Gravel Rules!

  • I would have loved to see a Obama/Gravel Ticket but can't have everything lol

  • Obama is worthless compared to Gravel. Voted to continue funding the war, voted for FISA (surveillance), and wants to continue the surveillance provisions of the Patriot Act. He doesn't deserve to be on a ticket with Gravel.

  • Wow, an honest politician. Don't see many of those. I certainly cannot say the same for McCain and Obama.

  • I just wanna say, I love youtube!

  • He hasn't been in congress the last three years

    *DO YOUR HOMEWORK*

  • Part of "the past years" is not understandable. He is not a Libertarian supporter, I've watched C-SPAN since the early 80's pal. I know who is who. Read this and weep.

"Cook ourselves off the planet in 100 years"

    -It says it all.

  • This man is what we need as world as a whole needs in the new time as leader of the US, I feel it, I know it! Mike Gravel! Greetings from holland.

  • Oh, off of gasoline in 5 years and carbon in ten years? He's also a liar and insane.

    ________________________________

I think that it's possible if put pressure on the gas companies.

  • It the fucking jews and the pawnshop owners that are doing this one in the sma==same

  • sma===same

    DIdn't get it.

Pawnshops owners....you have an inside line on the world of pawnshop owners? or just a relative that drove this into you as a kid?

  • Mike Gravel & Ron Paul 2008

  • Why? Ron Paul wants creationism taught in school and is personally against gay marriage. A man can promise people a thousand times over that his personal opinion will not interfere with his job, but sooner or later it creeps in. Ron Paul is sneaky and people are oblivious! Mike Gravel 08

  • um...nope. Ron Paul strictly believes that those are state issues. It's up to the people in each state to vote on it and make up their minds about stuff that is not expressly a federal power.

  • silicondoc clearly has bi-polar disorder.

  • Is gravel for keeping social security? I think it's necessary for older people. Giving them social security on top of a necessities rebate check would afford them, especially the poor who have managed to save nothing, the ability to retire. As it is, Social Security alone isn't paying them a living wage. It isn't keeping up with the cost of living. Together, Social Security and the necessities rebates would provide them a retirement wage.

  • Also what about medical care. I know that Gravel supports a national health care system of vouchers that people can take anywhere, but does he think that a health tax would additionally be required to sustain a health care system like that? The English pay roughly 10% a month on their earnings for their health care system. The Canadians pay roughly $110/month for theirs. I was just curious if Gravel thinks the fair tax is going to provide the revenue necessary for health care and rebates.

  • Man o man! Gravel is one in a million. Thanks Mike. Keep up the fight.

  • I don't think my boss, who's 77, knows who this man is. He was telling me about when he was stationed in Korea. He said, the shit of it was, North Korea is still the same today as it was back in the 50's when he went, and we still have our troops there. I'm definately playing this video for him tomorrow.

  • Gravel is the Shepherd

  • palimadar (1 week ago) Doesn't Kucinich support Obama?

  • No way. Kucinich knows Obama's a corporate weenie.

  • How does he feel about the one world order? What does he think about the united nations?

  • His tax system seems like Finnish Socialism... Gravel is entirely too cool.

  • Gravel ROCKS!!!!

  • That's not true. Gravel hates rocks.

  • hehehe that was funny :)

  • I'll be proud to vote for Mike and if he decides to run all the way, even as an independent i will support him. I'm just thankful for Youtube for allowing so many more to hear him.

  • Vote Mike - Google candidates and This is America are two good interviews. Let him flush the toilet in washington.

  • Ok, I wouldn't trust congress to make an intelligent decision, true. But I sure wouldn't trust 135 million people to make an intelligent decision either. James Madison warned us about the tyranny of popular rule. That's why we're a constitutional republic and not a democracy.

  • I would vote for him just knowing that he is as poor as most americans and that he rides the bus because he doesnt have sufficient funds

if you believe in democracy, please donate

    i did

  • "Running for president is terrible; being president's pretty good!"

    Hehehehe.

  • Mike gravel\kucinich ticket plz. Destination white house.

  • He is the man, NO DOUBT! He is the peace, the leader and saviour we need to lay the foundation. By their fruits we shall know them. what are we waiting for? please dont just nod your head to the facts, move and cast your vote. you have your time and chance. the change we need is in your hands. we dont to say later that oh, what a little fraction, he would have won if my family vote for him. is better to be glad u did the right thing. Mike Gravel for president 2008

  • Wow, you know, I haven't been paying attention to the Democratic race because I was just depressed with Hil-dog and Obama, but I really respect Mike Gravel.

I read a little bit about history and I think that he's one of the few people running who has put his money where his mouth is.

  • Internet people are smart, reason why Gravel an Paul make so much sense.

  • Mass donation day for Mike Gravel on 12/5!!!

Why donate? Mike ended the military draft, saving thousands of lives worldwide. And he exposed the lies of Vietnam with the Pentagon Papers. As president he will put the citizens in power, together we will fix our government & vote on policies that affect our everyday life.

Learn more of how you can help this American patriot at: gravel08DOTus. Please subscribe to: youtubeDOTcom/gravel2008 to keep up with Mike's campaign!

  • I am not an American and do not live in the USA, never had and never will....so far ;)

Mike talks about a 180 degree change but I would already be happy if he could change it a 45 degrees.

America is an such a bad shape. Economically the currency is so weak and only can be stabilized with high interest rates, but I believe there is much more behind the curtain than they want us to know.

    to be continued...

  • Don't be a hypocrite. Be the change you want to see... get your ass out of bed, and go register to vote.......

Mike Gravel might not be the most popular Democrat, but if they party base has any brains at all, they'll realize Mike is the only person capable of winning the nation over (against Guliani)

  • I hope a hole in the ground opens up and hell swallows Guliani

  • Guiliani doesn't have a chance. His cross dressing alone will take him down. Not to mention his role in 911. Check out the firefighters union youtube video exposing radio communications problems, 121 fire fighters never received message to evacuate. Rudy later testified they heard but "stood down". BS

  • I love him!

  • Me, too. I love my country. I love the human race...I'm so grateful he has chosen to sacrifice his time and energy in hopes of giving us the National Initiative and significant change. What a model of leadership he is showing us! More people need to see and hear of Mike Gravel! I hope this can happen.

  • 5:30-5:40

Best reason to enter the race I've heard yet.

  • He is the best Dem and cnn should be censored for not having him at the last debate..He would have won and would have propelled him to the top..

  • It's my understanding that it wasn't the media that dusted him, it was the Democratic party.

  • Gravel kucinich paul nader perot carter [conyers?rangel?] united for truth elicit fear smear blacklist.

    The people know too much,

    democracy rising democracy now.

    Rage against the machine.

    Honesty compassion intelligence guts.

No more extortion blackmail bribery division.

    Divided we fall.

  • Not spam, pure truth.

  • That is all they need really. The belief that you have the chance will assure you stay in their game. As long as you can take "Better luck next time" you will suffer the fate of such beliefs.

  • The more people are taken care of by the government, the more control they give over to whoever is in charge. That's great with good leaders. Elect some chimp with a wolf behind him, wolf tells NORAD to stand down, next thing you know, THEY are against US, chimp flings poo and voila! - dictatorship.

I'd rather play American Wild West than the Rise of Nazi Fascism in America drinking game. My vote is with Ron Paul, Darwinism and all.

  • If I'm willing to have someone be a vice president, then I better be damn sure that I would want him/her as president as well. Three letters for you: LBJ.

Mike is populist. Ron is Libertarian. Mike wants to redirect money for good, where Ron wants to stop runaway spending for good.

I hope Mike can swing that Fourth Branch high enough.

  • Ron Paul = REPUBLICAN

    The bastardization of words, i.e.,

    libertarian

    doesn't change their original meanings.

The device only serves to bamboozle sheeple.

  • Ron is libertarian in general principle. He is paleo-conservative. A republican that is under today's "Republican" moniker is not of the party of Abraham Lincoln. Dr. Paul is of an older definition of the Republican party.

In retrospect, it is clear that I should not have capitalized "libertarian."

Sheeple is a buzzword that separates us every bit as much as a title like Neo-Con, Liberal or Progressive. Try awakening your fellow people and not refer to them as sheep.

  • Repubs are not Lincoln's repubs, but dems are no longer jefferson's dems either.

  • Sheople is a good title. Anyone can be a sheople at any time. Sheople is a Human-Animal hybrid. It is not an animal. If they insist on sleeping even after veiwing the atrocities occurring, they will remain to be called sheople. A person who insists on sleeping and is late for work or misses work gets fired eventually. Sheople is a very good title. I think it might have been William Cooper that introduced this word. He paid with his life trying to wake up Sheople; Yet, Sheople insist on sleeping.

  • I wonder why the media has pushed hillary and o'bama so hard for so long. They create a story, and know how to manipulate us. They treat us to this finly crafted story. Things can change, just not the plan for the next ten years already in progress. Thats why guys like Paul and Gravel get the shaft.. They actually want to change it, and arn't boughtGrave and paid for.. He has done major things and proved to be right in the face of corruption, O'bama has a nice smile. and the media

  • VOTE FOR mIKE GRAVEL!! hes the only person who knows what he's talking about

  • They may mean well, but when they do this, they are displaying all the social grace of Alfalfa. If they're gonna keep saying MG needs to be running as Paul's VP candidate, then they might as well cut the compliments and just say, "Your candidate should volunteer to be our candidate's running mate, because we would NEVER consider supporting HIM for president." It would be no more insulting, and no more effective, than all this pillow talk that's painful to even listen to.

  • Until now, I have been loathe to criticize Paul supporters. But they keep getting in subtle digs against MG, and I can no longer thank them when they compliment him. These compliments are almost always followed up by the proposal of a dual ticket; and in every case except one that I've seen (the one case being last week's Tampa appearance of MG) they call it "Paul/Gravel".

  • Takethesprucemoose,

You are right that Gravel, Kucinich and Paul are in the same boat insofar as they've all got a handle on elements of forbidden truth, and are, "outrageously", speaking out loud about it. You are also right that any one of them would have a better chance if the supporters of the other two got behind him. But, there is a problem here, a great big elephant in the room that no one seems to want to talk about.

  • In this little "comparison", you have two Democrats who are populists (meaning, for those who don't know, the left wing of the Democratic Party), and one Republican (the party of anti-populist infamy) who is, not merely a Republican, but an unabashed social Darwinist who makes George W. Bush look like Che Guevara. (And I think we can all agree, that's quite a trick!)

  • I can't get enough of this guy. Seriously, if Mike Gravel got the presidency... we're talking an evolutionary leap. No joke. God, I want to believe he has a chance.

  • Then believe he does and dont let any naysayers change your mind.Think in the present.

  • Please believe....Mike Gravel for President!!!

  • Gravel for President in '08 !

"In a time of universal deciet, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." - George Orwell.

  • I appreciate Gravel's criticisms, but would like to point out that "We the people ... do ordain..." is in the Preamble of the Constitution NOT Article VII. The Preamble applies to the entire document. We the people do have the power to ammend the Supreme Law of the Land, and we've done it twenty-five times so far.

  • Ron Paul knows the constitution 100%

  • He know his idea and interpretation of it for you..to be put on you..50 state colonial tyranny, you duped wanker.

  • dsotelino - Gravel wasn't quoting the preamble, he was tying the preamble to Article VII, which discusses ratification. By doing this he is saying that Article VII, which puts approval of the Constitution into the hands of the people, provides justification for a National Initiative and is more suggestive of the "we the people" language in the preamble than the Amendment process detailed in Article V.

  • Twenty SEVEN times in over 200 years and look what horrendous effort that took on the part of people! A Civil War, death, jail time, injuries, remember the Pettis Bridge? Watts? No thanks. I want Mike Gravel's National Initiative ASAP...

  • Man, he reminds me of Howard Zinn a lot. I like him though, I am a Ron Paul guy, but I assume all the Gravel, Kucinich and Paul people are in pretty much in the same boat. let's consolidate and work towards the greater good, if we can

  • God bless you, Newshour, for giving these guys time. Gravel, I've liked you from the start. My boyfriend worked with you years ago in Wash DC at the World Federalist Assoc. We should all send the link to this to our friends.

  • The sharpest criticism often goes hand in hand with the deepest idealism and love of country.

    R.F.K.

  • Mike Gravel for President!!!

  • finally - a REAL leader

  • I think Gravel is great. However, he just said to pull all of the troops out of Iraq except the marines at the embassy? Huh? Does he really mean that? I hope not. No embassy and no troops in the middle of a civil war.

  • If you win the elections, which I pray to God for, you'll revolutionize the American Foreign Policy, and it'll be for the American People's interest and wellfare. God be with you.

    Zuhair

  • No ONE on the Republican side has anything to say worth listening to. ALL THEM including Ron Paul (and the idiots that support him) have NOTHING IMPORTANT to say and Paul and his supporters are very hypocritical! It's either Mike Gravel or Dennis Kucinich for 2008! They are the only candidates running that truly have the people's interest at heart!

  • ^^^^^

    TRUTH

  • Gravel is my #1 choice for President and I'd vote for him in a second. Of course he'll probably get screwed out of running by the damn government and the democratic party as all decent people are. You tell the truth they shut you up and lie about you, that has always been the way of politics!

    Long Live Gravel!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Sen.Mike Gravel is a genius!! He gets my vote, hands down! Gravel exploded earlier this year at the 1st debate "Barak, who the hell are we gonna nuke?" Gravel exploded into the scene like Jimi Hendrix at Monterey Pop Festival!! Thank GOD for this man!!!

  • you're not alone! i also support MIKE GRAVEL!

    gravel08. us

  • If you like this listen to him on Air America Radio! It is wonderful! Gravel 2008!

  • He is hands down the best of what they are giving us to choose from (fixed) of course..why can't we the people pick who the candidates are..I would vote for him for any substantial change...billary and the rest are all corporate, aipac slaves...GRAVEL/PAUL 08

  • I support Gravel but not Paul!

  • If you ignorant americans vote for mike gravel he will transform this country, if you vote for billary she will make it worse..google: hillary grenada bank.. if you like her

  • This man has a wealth of intelligence, integrity and a striking moral courage. Vote him Americans, so that you can become the world's respected leaders again.

  • Thanks to post this video. This wise old man is truly a fresh air, just like the semi-humorous quip mentioned it in the video. I agree with him that America is ripe for deep structural changes, to reverse decades long treachery by the political classes -Cont.

  • -Cont.-who turned the Great Republic which at one time contained half the industrial/manufacturing capacity of world into the American Empire, the armed thug of Israel and an international pariah who spend on military what the rest of the world combined. I give kudos to the interviewer too, who wasn't hostile but let this message of truth out.

  • I admire his courage to really challenge some of the other candidates in debates.

  • Wow. This man speaks the truth. Bring Politics back to the people and out of the pockets of Business interests.

    Very impressive.

  • Mike Gravel blows them all away...email this video to EVERYONE. GRAVEL FOR PRESIDENT

  • Spread this to your neighbour, friend and family. This guy needs all the help he can get from all kinds of sources. If he doesnt become pres. he sure can tell America about true leadership.

  • wow this guy is the best politician I've ever seen. America would be so lucky to have him for president!

He's the only democratic candidate that actually has a plan. He clearly knows what he's talking about and seems like such a nice guy on top of that.

  • Hes got my vote,,,,go gravel

  • Gravel actually cares about democracy. He's not a zookeeper or a looter like everyone else in congress. Take him seriously.

  • I love him! He's got my vote!

  • I'm so glad Gravel is in the race ~ we so need the light he shines on the issues!

  • Mike Gravel is an American hero. Hillary Clinton should be in prison.

  • wow. that was an eye-opener, several times over.

  • So nice to hear you continuing to be the Uncommon Candidate. Also great to see the honors which continue to follow these videos. I'll be watching.

  • It makes me sad that mainstream media doesn't give Mike Gravel a chance.

Since the majority basically votes for whoever they saw on TV the most, Gravel has near no chance. And the country's downward spiral will only continue under the rule of Clinton or Obama. :(

  • It's up to the people, that includes you, to get him elected by spreading the truth he speaks and awareness of the plans he brings when elected. If the media won't do it, someone else has to do it for them!

  • I am from Europe, otherwise I would support mr Gravel! Learn more on what really is going in our country & world, see:

  • wow that was great!!! Go MIKE!!

  • Mike Gravel is a true American.

    Kick out the crime gang!

Vote for leadership or face communism!

    From a Scot, Edinburgh

  • Restore dignity to this nation and the world.

    Vote for Mike Gravel.

  • I was lucky enough to meet this man last month in Florida. This is what an American should sound like. May he be blessed with good health for a long time.

  • I wish Gravel and Paul would/could team up.A good mix of their ideas would save America and make it better than it ever was.

  • I LOVE THIS GUY HE'S GOT MY VOTE!!!!

  • i really lost faith in the 2 parties of the USA. the last two elections i voted for Nader. I love Ralph Nader but I think this time I'm going to vote for Gravel. Besides Kucinich i would never think of voting for any other Democrat or Republican. Thanks for posting this!!!

  • wow ! he just got my vote.

He really is a breath of fresh air.

And he is exactly right about how nations around the world view the USA and how they would if his changes in approach were inplemented.

  • Don't hear me wrong, I think we should get the troops out of Iraq. However, I believe the greater concern is not getting into this kind of situation again. The situation being, more specifically, soldiers dying at such large numbers for a war the people don't support.

  • Whether the public is correct or just victims of misunderstanding doesn't matter to me anymore. Once the troops are home I think the greatest honor we can show them is to make sure they won't have to relive the circumstances of the last few years when their children are serving a generation from now

  • I heard him say that on PBS TV.

Sure when you attack some one the response is to attack back, a typical animal response.

Don't be animal. No spiritual guts... just of bunch of animals running things. "They" got "their" WTC rebuilding... why waste time running like asses all over the world with guns to just meet other guns...inside and/or outside job, lets do our job with Gravel.

  • Mike Gravel is the perfect candidate... I can not believe America is this damn apathetic to our current situation. Gravel is a brilliant, honest, compassionate man who has the ability to see through bullshit... it almost makes me cry that total corrupt pricks like guiliani and clinton are favorites right now, the system is ass backwards, its like we're in a damned nation of zombies

  • Ron Paul is Libertarian, believes in VERY minimal federal government, he would spend NO public money on education, industry regulation, health care, energy research... if that's what you believe, fine. But so many people assume he's "progressive" because of his foreign policy. He's very far from progressive.

Saying you are for Ron Paul OR Mike Gravel is like saying you're for fire OR water. Go to their sites and read their positions.

  • Ron Paul doesn't say that the money shouldn't be spent on this. He says that each state should be in control of how they wish to spend their money. The federal government should be reserved to protect the rights of the individual and maintain a noninterventionalist military. A state like California could even fund socialized health car under Paul, assuming they had the support. Both candidates would help to move the US away from corporatism.

  • billbacon, well said and I stand corrected on that point, Ron Paul is against the federal government spending money (our money, of course) for such things.

But my larger point is still that it's odd people would be torn between Gravel and Paul when they are so radically different on most of what they stand for.

I, and many 'progressives' believe you need a strong federal government (in some areas) as the only force large enough to stand up against multi-national corporations.

  • I agree but point the finger at corporations enjoying all the rights of an individual with none of the accountability. I believe that if shareholders were held accountable to the crimes committed by a company it would inject some morals into wall street. Investors wouldn't base their decisions solely on profitability.

  • I love that idea - not smart enough to know if it's workable, but i like it.

  • Yeah me either... haha. The premise was that as long as people pay for stolen bikes, more bikes will be stolen. That sort of thing. I imagine there will always be a loophole for investors though.

  • I must admit I'm very attracted to the libertarian perspective as applied to the federal government. It puts the center of power closer to the people, allows for different systems to be tested, and limits the potential for corruption at higher levels insuring integrity of the system as a whole. I see it as the perfect "debugging" environment.

  • I like this guy. He sounds like he believes what he says. That's refreshing. If he needs a campaign song, he can find one at searchword wilburjr-thanks.

  • This has to be Mike's BEST interview. PBS gave Mike a well structured interview that gave Mike the opportunity to lay everything out without being rudely interrupted. Ray Suarez has more class than that ! Thanks PBS NewsHour !!!!!

Sen. Gravel, what a powerful interview !! Go Gravel !!!

  • Mike Gravel is the best candidate. Period. Noone else is as honest, rational, and compassionate as Mike Gravel.

Damn I hope he gets elected, and I'm going to do whatever I can to assure it.

    What about you?

  • Man, I don't like that education plan (no long summer vacations and instead long days at school throughout the year), but I like the rest quite a lot... :-D.

  • Learn about Nikola Tesla science and summer will be fun. If Federal Government can cut off paying the Nazis, the money for education can air condition the schools along with the science stolen from Tesla.

  • Our culture and our system of education are unique (as are every nation's), and citing China's test scores as a reason to adapt their school schedule (something Mike's done) isn't logical. Again, Gravel's still my choice for most issues, but I don't support his education policy (of course, such policy isn't in the hands of the president, anyway).

  • I'm afraid Ron Paul would eliminate the Federal Stafford student loan and the Federal Pell Grant which is a common need for most American college students. Mike Gravel is my clear choice.

  • Man this guy is great infact he seems better than ron paul, it's such a shame that the money decides who gets the exposure. In the future when the world has been destroyed by war we might look back at these times and say if only we made the right choices...

  • Great video for a great man, Mike Gravel. I also like Ron Paul.

We have TWO chances to get rid of these Neo-Cons in government. Every Democrat should register Republican IMMEDIATELY, vote for Ron Paul in the GOP primary. Then when the primary gets stolen, in the actual election vote Democrat. We have two opportunities, TWO chances, please don't loose either...

  • Why would I vote for someone who would end the federal students loans I need to attend school? I would prefer any of the democratic candidates to Paul.

  • Only Gravel and Kucinich speak the truth.

  • What a fabulous man! I hope we get to hear more coverage on Mike!

  • What an incredibly refreshing and inspiring breath of fresh air!

He's got a grasp on true root causes instead of mere symptoms sufferd by our abused and degraded democracy. Gravel has GOT to get more air time.

  • Great interview. Very sensible man.

  • long live Mike Gravel

    hooray for the national initiative.

  • GRAVEL 08

  • I remember when it took him many days to get over a thousand views. now look at it, not even a full day and over 1,000. Keep goin' mike I wanna see 5,000 in a day! :) (You already know you've got my vote, man)

  • Gravel 08
