  • what wing he was flying?

  • Between :045 - 0:48 The wing told the pilot that it was going to go... Pilots ignored the signs and the wing went... Pilots Fault by not keeping pressure in wing. Pilot had 3 seconds to fix this and did not! No wonder why he tossed his laundry...

  • "well I'm on the ground now"

  • I love the way that he is so calm about it the whole way down. Even when he hits the ground. I rekon I'd be dropping nuggets as soon as i hit the turbulence.

  • I would be scared shitless to even be in one of those things

  • Fantastic Joe ! Welcome back on the ground. This is a good occasion for all of us to learn. Conditions are too bad to fly, turbulences. Technic to recover looks poor, exept for coolness. Do not move when hanging in the tree, Joe could have been severly wounded on the last 3 meters falldown. Always have a knife, a radio, a GPS and a reserve chute. Have a safe flight. The 747 as all those equipments plus cofee.

  • Shows what a waste of time these bagwings (or Medusas as the French so aptly call them)are. Hang gliders and sailplanes are the only way to fly!

  • A reserve deployment is RARE with a hang glider but very common in paragliding. I'll stick to hang gliding...I like my chicken with bones! Glad to see this pilot made it down ok. Those would have been perfect conditions to fly in with a hang glider but questionable with a paraglider.

  • @FutzAndTinker BS! I've flown hang gliders for 35 years and paragliders for 25, and there are lots of days that are actually more pleasant for paragliders than for hang gliders. There doesn't appear to be anything special about the wind/thermal conditions in the video - just a question of a pilot unskilled enough for the wing he is flying: which could easily happen just as much with a hang glider.

  • @tienshanman1 I fly all three: paragliders, hang gliders and sailplanes, and each are good in their own way. paragliders have a lot of advantages not offered by the other too (and vice versa).

  • well...I'm on the ground now!

  • Hello Everybody. No It's not a Bad Recover. This is a NEGATIVE SPIN. Secuence: 1. Big Collapse 2. Recover but pilot Push too Brake. 3. So Enter in Negative Spin with TWIST and SMALL EARS Too. The problem is that for exit to this configuration is possible just to relase brakes.... This Pilot Pull Pull Pull and Pull. The graund arrive fast. Just Relase Brakes and keep karabiner when collapse arrive. Good Fly
  • It's NOT a negative spin, its a collapse caused by thermal activity with TOO LITTLE brake for recovery, resulting in a cravatte, wich caused the locked spiral. The pilot came down on his reserve chute!

  • If it's not as bad as yesterday. Then why the fuck is he 50 feet in a pine tre playing with a damn branch. "Well i'm on the ground now" Why didn't he do that in the firstplace.

  • thats a great video, and joe did quite well under the ruff air he was flying in it seems...i would have went ot my reserve a lil sooner...but doesnt everyone say that when its not them? :-) glad your ok Joe

  • ive watched this a lot now still scary Joe is still cool, good club too. how advanced are the reserve shoots? they look WWII. i know thats kinda insulting its not ment to be. this coming from someone who wants to get into paragliding- i will do my research.

  • im glad i saw this its put me rite off it, im glad your ok mate

  • woow!... when shit happens! :o

how can it be that a chute collaps like that in a few seconds?

i have still a square chute ;) and it's still flying well :p don't need a new elipse shaped one. i'm only 15 and i play with that chute. (Condor 32 Ft Square)

  • He did have a lot of NERVE about him :) Very calm!! You could tell-he got a little perturbed (like anyone would have) when that guy asked him for his "general" direction. Was very understandable to me.....in fact I would have started going off :)

  • What happened to the paraglider? Is it still "air-worthy"? please respond.

  • This pilot's name is Joe Parr, and has become quite famous for this flight. He is a student of Seattle Paragliding, the same school i fly with. You couldn't hope to meet a nicer group of people than these folks. It's very active flying in Mexico, as you can see. I only wish that if something like this ever happens to me, that i can remain as calm as Joe did. Onward and Upwards!

  • Brazil?? This accident happened in Mexico!! Valle de Bravo[sic?] outside of Mexico City. Great video however.

  • well thats one way to get out the tree.... good your safe and sound

  • classic video...joe is the most famous american paraglider glider here in brazil....heheheheheh

  • opss..american paraglider pilot.... : )
