  • ...not used to short hair, it sucks, I feel colder in winter and hotter in summer (I use a number 2, if I let it grow a huge baldspot shows and it's horrible), girls don't look at me that same way, and the ones that do are rare and many of them tend to be older (I'm only 23, I don't want to just have sex with 30 year olds!)...

It's extremely depressing for me and I'm sure it's probably more so than someone who always had short hair...

  • I had the most beautiful long blond hair (almost reaching waist, and yes I'm a guy) and it made look extremely attractive, there was "no limit" to me for the girls or even older women I could get, I started to lose my hair a few months before turning 20 in 2008, by late 2008 I had a huge bald spot on my crown and the rest of my hair was so thin that it looked ridiculous...

I waited a year after that and by nov. 2009 I had cut it short and found out I had a receding hair line too, I'm still...

  • Any update on Noah from this interview? I'd love to know.

  • It doesn't matter what you do. I'm a non drinking, non smoking, vegetarian yet I went bald at 21. I tried everything; green tea, saw palmetto, ginseng, vitamins, minerals...

If baldness is in your genes, your fucked. I'm getting a vasectomy so I don't pass down these genes to my future children. There ARE other reasons I'm doing this, but, yes, baldness is one of them. I've got a few other genetic issues too. I don't want my future kids to worry about that shit. Life's hard enough as it is.

  • @WTF1920 It may have seemed like you tried "everything," but what you missed was getting a medical evaluation from a doctor who is a specialist in the field of Hair Restoration and starting a proven medical regimen at the early stage. All hope is not lost, you can still start an fda-approved treatment if you choose.

  • Does propecia work on receding hairlines?

  • why does he wants to know if finasteride works for him ?? he barely has hair on his head , if my hair was in his condition i would shave it of ,

  • 35 is not early! I'm 17 and going bald. Life's a bitch.

  • when is hair loss going to be a thing of the past?

  • @Supersmooth007 Betnovate Cream (corticosteroid anti-inflammatory) is not typically recommended for male pattern hair loss, unless you have some serious inflammation or dermatitis of the scalp as well. Also, research shows that corticosteroids may interfere with low level laser therapy, a potential tx option for thinning hair. Propecia is effective, side-effects are extremely rare (and reversible if they occur), so it is generally considered the standard-of-care for male pattern hair loss.

  • @alanbauman I am starting minoxidil [regular strength] and I have noticed shedding or hair but this is a good thing apparently can you confirm this thanks.

  • @Supersmooth007 A short period of shedding is common whenever starting a hair restoration regimen (propecia, minoxidil or laser therapy). It lasts for about four to six weeks, on average, then improvements in hair density, hair caliber, etc. will occur. Standardized photos and Hair Mass Index measurements are usually performed at three months, six months and twelve months. Good luck and keep us posted! --Dr. B.

  • @alanbauman My trichologist @ Belgravia centre in London suggested Minoxidil 12.5% + Azelaic Acid 5% cream and Propecia 1mg, Minoxidil 5% + Medroxyprogesterone (MPG) 0.0125% Lotion

    - it is very costly. I do not want transplantr at the moment I am using the electro charged nanofibers [nanogen] to apply to bald patches it is like a dye and almost adding hair to hair then i use locking miss, because my hair is thining and the more i worry and the mores stressed i get the worse it gets!

  • Dr. whats all this thing about anti propecia propaganda, i have heard it causes serious irreplaceable side effects I know it will work but that has me kinda worried if I use it. u say is reversible but there is a community saying other wise. and If I use it and get satisfied with the result if I stop using it will it regress? and does your tests predict if I would have this side effects due to my genetic make up Thanks

  • doctor, im 22, i have been using propecia for 2 years, my hair loss has not worsened but my frontal hair line has slightly receeded back. can u assss my response and effectivness of using propecia?

  • Tracking your response to Propecia can be difficult. 90-day follow-up visits are routine in my practice (Bauman Medical Group) and we do a variety of photos, density measurements and miniaturization tracking to assess the progress. If you cannot make it to the office we do the follow-up appointments via skype, email or phone. Contact the office for more info.

  • @RawalpindiBrittania Does Propecia work? I am seeing a dermatologist [skin specialist] tomorrow and before prescribing me with propecia or finasteride/rogaine they will check to see if it is due to male pattern baldness or part of my auto immune thyroid disease, perhaps it could be hereditry and passed down the genes. How are you getting on with the drung now and is it working pleasE?

  • @Supersmooth007 Yes, Propecia is extremely effective for stopping the progression of hereditary male pattern hair loss and is a critical step in the medical treatment of male baldness. As you mentioned, other factors could be affecting your hair, so a medical consultation is always recommended. 90% of men on Propecia look "the same" or "better" long term, as opposed to "much worse" five years later without it. They key is starting early enough and tracking your results w/ standardized photos.

  • @alanbauman i m 22 years old and im thinning most of On vertex and in frontal zone but i m thin a lot all over my UP scalp Not sides and back. Is it possible to have diffuse thining just Up not in back hair or sides?

  • @WutangClan4LiF3 Actually, yes. Thinning at the top (frontal and vertex/crown) of the scalp and full, thick hair at the sides and back of the scalp is the typical hereditary "male pattern." That is the condition that we most commonly treat. The most important thing you can do is start a regimen of medical treatment to protect the hair you have. Without treatment, the condition will certainly get worse. Sincerely, Dr. Bauman

  • Many patients are concerned about the possibility of side effects from Propecia. In the clinical trials, side effects occurred in less than 2% of patients initially. The side effects were generally considered mild by the patients. The are reversible upon discontinuing treatment. Taking the genetic test can predict your chances of success with the hair-loss treatment aspects of Propecia. --Dr. B.

  • Hello Dr Bauman:

I am interested in having this androgen test and the test in regards to finding out if propecia might work for me for my frontal loss. Are these tests offered at alot of places? I currently live in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

  • Finding a qualified physician to provide cosmetic surgery in the U.S. is hard enough. Add onto that a language barrier, the lack of cerifications, regulatory agencies, non-existent post-op care once you leave, etc, etc, and surgery abroad sounds like a risk not too many people would feel comfortable with.

Even the plastic surgeons agree on this one... Surgery abroad is high-risk. Do a search on cosmetic surgery travel disasters... You should try to stack the cards with you, not against.

  • Dr. Bauman: How do you feel about people going to places such as South America or Asia to get a hair transplant done for a fifth of the cost?
