good video. But my thoughts are the practice in life shouldn't be this much strength output. 'cause it would dry up your energy. I heard from various master that XingYi is better holding your energies instead of releasing them out, since it gains real 'GONGFU'
@doinself Not really, good Xing Yi is HARD, particuarly in the first stage of traning which can take up to 5 years to compleate. If a person dosn't develope good HARD power as a base, their XingYi will always be weak. The phase of using a lot of internal power is the second or "hidden" stage. A lot of players ruin their Xing Yi by trying to skip to the second stage too quick. But a lot of teaches never even teach the stepping methods to generate real power in the first place.
@ gesplk, what you are looking at is the forms of xing yi not application. all martial arts has forms and you cant assess a styles affectiveness by the forms alone. karate's focus is on one strike, one knockout and so does xing yi. my guess is that you fight with your momentum going backward or to the side. imagine that the forward movement is coming towards you at a 45 degree angle with the water(drilling) fist aimed at your throat. its a battlefield art, not a referee sport.
@smalldash - yep. the problem is that people who are ignorant of martial arts think that MMA is the only way to do martial arts. It's only the surface. What they don't understand, they automatically discount. I made that mistake a long time ago when I studied BJJ & Muay Thai and went to a Wing Chun school to see what they could do. I thought I would break their arms and legs. I thought because I could stand my ground in my BJJ & kickboxing class, I would do fine at the WC school. I was wrong.
See JDS vs Cain Velasquez. There a looping punch did the job. WC have no answer to that if you do it with the correct timing, head movement and distractions.
WC and many Chinese styles completely ignore head movement. They rely mostly on repositioning your entire torso. You can clearly see it in this video.
@gespilk - that's because moving your head is only a half effective thing to do in combat. Moving the head misaligns the body structure so that you have to rely on velocity and more muscle power to deliver blows. Moving the torso automatically also moves the head plus it keeps your entire body structure intact so you can deliver blows with the mass of the whole body connected to it. We do not dodge, we move. Hope you understand this. MMA = bunch of people using most obvious tools + steroids.
It looks kind of dodgy.I have never seen anyone in the MMA to use those techniques. There is no fluidity and all those pauses between movements leave the body exposed for counter attacks. Also if you practice that much forward movement the opponent would definitely notice the tendency when you fight and will use it against you.He would develop a strategy to lure you into stepping forward and then he would counter, take you down and submit you.
Real fight are faster and with different rhythm if any.
@gespilk This is just practicing the form. Of course it'd be different in a real fight, just like how a boxer practicing a drill won't be repeating that drill in a real fight.
@macinvictus you ask him! lo think his line was perfection in my opinion. they do move fast and each style has their own movement so you know where your at, be good and be right good xx
my god!! there are lots of so-called "master" !! or talker```` not doer``
