Yo dude, does your rick buzz? I noticed it has an open hum bucker like mine. Mine buzzes like a beast! I have a Boss noise supressor but it's annoying to use sometimes? Any suggestions?
@Tellycaster109 When my 6 string acoustic guitar buzzed I just put on heavier gage stings and it went away. Don't know if this is an option for a bass.
@Tellycaster109 take it to a luther or guitar center and have them check it out. it just might need adjusting or fret sanding. or he'll give you tips on what to do. cheers.
No guys. George did basswork in The Beatles. He did supply the bass on HIS recording of "Here Comes the Sun". He used a Fender Jazz Bass to record with. I suggest some of you put "Two of Us" into the search window and watch George play bass on his telecaster guitar.
@109ace John and George both did bass work after sgt pepper. They shared a custom fender 6 string bass. They probably just took a fender guitar and converted it for the lower tones.
Of all the bass vids for Here Comes the Sun - Yours is the best so far. The tone of your bass, the inflections, and the accuracy of matching what Macca played on the original recording are dead on. You have a lot of Beatle vids here so I'm betting you're a major McCartney fan.
4001's are hard to peg to a price, because they don't make them anymore, but you can get the 4003 (Rickenbacker's new version of the 4001) for $2,000 at musician's friend.

Hello Again Mac! Fun to listen to the three along with George M. talking and remembering the recording session of Golden Slumbers - but that's not determining for sure that it was George on the VI on Sun. The best thing about that video was George M. making the point that, indeed, through all the problems at the end - The Beatles were still making and playing great music together AS A BAND and not individual artists as it was with the White LP. Anyways - Happy Christmas!
not to mention it had the enormous sounding horseshoe bridge pickup that they don't use anymore because it's too expensive to make--nowadays they use a small single coil in the bridge position with a removable bridge cover.

he didnt use it on this song the rickenbacker or on something, most of the white album and abbey road he used the jazz bass but he started using the rickenbacker more in 1971
Although there's a photo of George playing a Fender Jazz during the Abbey Road album sessions, I never saw pictures of Paul with the Jazz during the Beatledays. Thanx for the info, never too old to learn new facts.. Somehow it clears things; long ago I had a Rick because of Paul but never liked it. Recently I bought a '64 reissue Fender Jazz that sounds great..
Where did you find it ? I'm searching from a long time photos with macca and jazz. A lot of people don't know that he used a jazz during recording of White Album (this is why bass sound is so crunchy on that album) ...
McCartney used his Hofner for the video of Revolution which is roughly the same period. He also used it on Get Back. Some of the bass sounds on the White Album (such as Dear Prudence) sound a lot like a hofner. It sounds like they put a lot of treble on the di signal and a lot of bass on the room sound. Lennon and Harrison used a fender bass for Helter Skelter, Hey Jude. And somebody plays chords on a bass in I'm so tired, Back in the Ussr, Could be a fender jazz bass indeed.
no, he didn't some ricks were special ordered without them, the treble bar and the metal surrounding the pickup are all one solid piece, you cant remove it!
i was pissed too, when i first saw one without it lol =]

BTW I play bass and had one Fender VI long ago... it sounds cool really.
George plays this bass in Hey Jude and John (Dig it - Let it be- among others).
In fact the ' VI ' was the 'everybody's bass/guitar' both at Twickenham Studios (Letit be) and Apple R S.
This short scale one looks like a Fender Jaguar &co.
Cheers.

great playing. but thats not a 4001 thats a 4003. the 4001 only as dot neck and reversed headstock, and has the reshaped body.

the one hes playing is a reissue of paul's bass after he routered the body a bit and refinished it.
