There are so many foams that you must contact the supplier of the foam to see if it can be cut with a hot wire, and if it can you must ask if there are any health or safety hazards when cutting their foam with hot wire tools. If this is the green Styrofoam, then yes it can be cut safely with our Hot Knife.

@DDofCourage Yes. You should always check with the manufacturer of the foam you are cutting to be sure there are no health or safety hazards when cutting their foam with hot wire tools. We recommend that the polyurethane foams (aka upholstery foams) only be cut with a blade or saw.
Is it a polystyrene foam that you are cutting? Some foams should not be cut with heat. Hot Wire Foam Factory tools will cut both closed cell and open cell polystyrene foams. These are the white beaded foams used for insulation, coffee cups, packaging, etc. They will also cut the closed cell extruded foams like DOW Blueboard foam. The extruded foam are usually more dense and cut slower, but but very cleanly. The Hot Scroll Table and Sculpting Tool will give you the cleanest cut.
I got one similar to this. However I cut closed cell ones and it makes sticky strings which really is unpleasant. Is it me that do something wrong? Because so far I would rather use my ol' x-acto.
The smoke that is primarily CO2 and water vapor. The toxic values are far less than wood-smoke which contains tars, resins, creosote, and aseic acid. The dust from cutting with saws and sanding EPS foam is more harmful than the fumes when cutting foam. Always wear a good quality dust mask when saw cutting or sanding EPS foam.
Always check with the manufacturer of the foam you are using to make sure that there are no health or safety hazards when cutting their foam with hot wire tools.
You can call our toll free number 1-866-735-9255 and we can give you the tech-support number for DOW who manufactures Styrofoam. They told us that the fumes from cutting their foam with a hot wire are not toxic, but cutting should still be done in a well ventilated area.
That's the most awesome product in the world EVER! I bet I could build myself a whole new house out of polystyrene with that thing...with a toilet, some furniture and everything.
