It's funny how many people are hatin' on metal and only metal playing. It's obvious this dude knows his rudiments, and if he can play this. It's quite clear he can do other stuff. I think people are hating because they can't do they. They fit themselves into one specific mold and never bothered to venture out and learn other shit. This dudes a good drummer.
believe it or not, dude, I wasn't feeling anything u did until u took off them snares off that drum. Then it's like I got hypnotized to your entire sound from then on. Great job! Great stuff n speed.
cant afford to be cynical, we all works in progress, whole lot of elements come into play far as getting in the grove , and in the ZONE - just look at sade's drummer in "red eye" the lovers live tour. ats what i'm talkin bout yo!
Wow, that was amazing! I dream of pounding my skins like that man! As an older, less competitive person (comfortable with my life) I see about 99% of the negative comments coming from players with little or no creativity what-so-ever.
Double bass licks are cool man but I think running the pedals is more to the benefit of a song verses a solo. Nothin wrong with some sick combinations though. Good chops my man.
Okay, I'm a drummer......you have great chops, but your pocket is totally absent. Play in the pocket..hold a groove and use that as a basis to improvise off of.
I hate the fact that people who find other drummer bad only refer to the style. This drummer is obviously good, regardless of if he is playing fast, slow, too much chops, not enough groove etc... For example, this drumming is not at all my style, but it's so easy to just imagine playing this and realise that you need talent and practice to get there.
@nduchene1 ya know double bass isnt just for metal. some of the greats use double bass. steve gadd, dave wykel, cater beauford, dennis chambers, so what if he used double bass? not saying single is bad or anything i've seen many great drummer use one kick and sound awesome. its all about preference. if you dont like double bass why must you cut down those who use it? why so negative?
@nduchene1 Ginger Baker did pretty damn good with a double bass, but he actually had two drums instead of one drum with a double pedal, but other than that yeah, the double bass kind of pisses me off
I'll be honest, you have chops. It's tempting to play them all the time. I think people will notice more though if you use them sparingly and integrate them into creative grooves.
nice comment. chops are great however he didn't tell me a story or make any progressions.
honestly, when it comes to the drumoffs, i feel the best solution is to play what others haven't played yet - take the time to listen to everyone.. create a unique in your head and go somewhere.
i'm sure guys have a particular solo mastered when it comes time for the finals and etc..that's cool..but the early rounds it's all about being unique!
As a drummer with experience, it's good to leave your audience with something they can recap ... Not something that sounds like someone yelling in tongues ....
@Smurftacular2792 I disagree, This guy had style along with skills. Any cock can pick up an learn an instrument. Not any cock can add style or feeling to it. This dude did both. It's like when people say Travis Barker is the best drummer. Nope, any grindcore fan will tell you that's far from true. But the dude has style and makes it look good. He puts feeling into it.
Noticed some fairly negative comments, yet, if you were in a famous band, and did the exact same solo through a massive sound system in front of 15,000 people, I think you'd get some very different responses!
this was pretty good IMO. definately entertaining to watch, i love fast drumming. and i liked the double bass too, ima metal fan, but overall great job
I know speed in drumming is cool cuz its like wow that'd be really hard to do that tempo... but I'm sick of how people become so focused on being fast and have nearly no groove... like I've seen some fantastic drummers who just do basic 4/4 and just do a bit of syncopation over it with a few speedy fills and then back into simple grooves and fills... that impresses me moe than this
Lacked originality and personality. You're pretty fast but so are thousands of other drummers, creativity is what can set you apart. The solo also seemed random and all good solos sort of tell a story and flow much more smoothly.
Hey. I will give you this man. You are much faster than I am right now. Especially wit yo feet. But, in saying that, you gotta slow it down homie. You got chopz. You clearly know ya rudiments. Play a lil more tastefully friend. Become a lil more creative wit the kit. There so much more to drums than how fast you play. Love the showmanship though. You good dude. Keep up the practicin. And play with a click track at various tempos. That should help ya out with creativity too!
i feel like the solo wasnt unique. i dont like it i cudve done better even if i didnt have a double bass pedal. the solo looks the same as what jerome flood II did in 09.
@timothyj67 no it wasn't...at the beginning those are a lot of rudiments and buzz fills(which are super hard to get even toned, i have to choke the grip to imitate the sound!)
ima be honest. 1) your good. ( better than me) 2) not enough musicality in your playin to advance in the competition. Ive watched enough vids to know that you gotta have more than just fast licks. Your good though and I wish i had feet that fast.
yeah I reckon. Just by watching him, you can tell he couldn't play slow for shit. He wouldn't be able to stay in time. He doesn't really have much feel.
@SYSTEMAairsoft dude, as a drummer, drummers learn to play all tempos. It's kind of something you need to learn if you want to ever play more. This guy could kick your ass everyday of the week on a slow tempo, so stop hating because you can't play
@SYSTEMAairsoft i definitely think so.. today, people see quantity over quality.. i dont think it should be that way. it should definitely be how you play your instrument as opposed to how many irrelevant objects you can hit with a wooden stick in the shortest amount of time
@SYSTEMAairsoft umm no? and the tempo wasn't that fast anyway, he was just playing fast...because that's what drummers do in solo's. I don't think anyone ever asked Neil Peart to slow down
@SYSTEMAairsoft ummm..... this is a drum solo, not a "Lets play the drums and see if we can maintain a steady beat fast AND slow." This is supposed to be really fucking fast. And im not trying to like say your wrong, but hes not playing as fast as he can. if he was, hed be tensed up. Yeah, it might be difficult to play slowly, but you can talk once YOU can do it slowly. Hell, if you can do it AT ALL. Sorry, but if i were EdgeSnare, I would remove your comment. This is probably one of the best.
sick solo dude! idk why these people are commenting, saying that you arent playing with any feeling? thats bullshit. you're getting hella into it. mad props!
fuckin sick. i wish i had the hands that you do, even though im pretty happy with mine at the moment. but idk, was alrite to me. dont know if i could compose a better solo
@EdgeSnare Lol, I know right! It is a competition, you have to impress, it's called showmanship. It's actually part of playing live! when you make others feel your love for music through adding more than just playing, by adding showmanship. Some one needs to watch Drumline! Lots of showing off!
i agree with Thelamcody. the love is what impresses others. you gotta have a solid groove so that you can build the fills off of it. you can't just play a 3 minute fill that gets briefly broken up by a simple groove that eight million kids play in their basements.
