  • Yes, Eucalyptus are aplenty around here in Portugal :) Unfortunately...

I've seen this feature also on Blackcaps feeding in the same manner.

  • Great video. It's not a deformed bill. Its the front feathers "glued" from the bird feeding on nectar (on eucalyptus flowers for ex) and it's not uncommon to see. At 1:30 you can hear Long-tailed Tits (Aegithalos caudatus).

  • @RafaelMatias1976 I did wonder if it was a thorn stuck on the bill base, but the sticky feathers is an interesting answer. We don't have Eucalyptus round here but the bird would only have been in the UK a couple of days or so. I presume you have Eucalyptus in Spain/Portugal? I have heard of Blue Tits feeding on Plum blossom nectar here in the UK but it is a quite rare phenomenon.

  • They are a fairly common summer visitor and easy to identify when singing. The field characters shown in the graphic help distinguish them from the equally common Willow Warbler

  • I think I might have seen this species or one similar to it in Liverpool.

  • Absolutely perfect close up! /KD
