I met this little beauty in dense fog at first light in the Sturgeon Bay Canal last Sunday. I had sent out a securite call before entering the canal on my handheld VHF, but found out later that it neither transmits nor receives. I managed to pass port to port with about three feet on each side of my 28' sailboat. 62,000 tons v. 3 tons. The guy on bow watch saw me about the same time I saw him, so there were no horns. First time in my life I just said to myself, "wow, this is it".
