  • If antideps are no better than a placebo, why the very bad "side-effects"? I quit cold turkey my paxil becuase I was tired of the appathy it was causing; antideps do something, but may be different for different people.

  • and still, we shouldn't forget that antidepressants help many people, if they are used properly greets

  • The truth is most SSRI's and are toxic on the body or they stop working, One size does not fit all. Rather than treating the individuals brian most Psyciatrists will treat people according to statistics. I personnaly prefere less toxic medications, to treat anxiety depression and other conditions. There are ways to prevent addictions as well. I would also recomend natural therapies if possible not all of us are quacks. I am a activist BTW.

  • anti-depressants are poison. if they work for you great. years from now the medical establishment is going to look back in horror because of the cavalier fashion in which they handed these drugs out. we really still don't understand how they work.

  • Please use google search and type in Ban Paxil to sign a petition is you believe that Paxil is a bad drug

  • @PowowNinja

Also, I just saw your profile pic and... not to be creepy, but you're pretty damn attractive. Why would you be depressed enough to need drugs in the first place? Just curious...

  • @PowowNinja

It's not a lie that they're drugs that have effects, it's a lie that one of those effects is the treatment of depression. True, it works for some people as a treatment for depression, but if you give a million depressed people a placebo pill that you claim will cure their depression, chances are at least some of them will respond positively, and then you can use them as an example to "prove" that these pills are actually a cure for depression. See what I mean?

  • @PowowNinja

The bottom line is, antidepressants can work on a subjective basis, but they definitely don't work on an objective basis. I have no qualms against you taking antidepressants if you truly believe they help you, but I just want you to understand the true nature of the effects you're feeling.

And again, If they really do work for you, keep taking them. Who knows, I may be completely wrong. It's just that there's more evidence for my claims than there is against them.

  • @PowowNinja

Many people DO feel "better" on them, but that's either due to the placebo effect I've mentioned, or because they go into terrible withdrawals if they stop taking these drugs, and interpret that phenomenon as the treatment of the depression that they had before they started taking the drug.

  • @PowowNinja

You're really just feeling a slew of random mental and physical side-effects, which you interpret in a positive way due to the placebo effect. I can back up this reasoning with numerous studies that have proven, objectively, that antidepressants DO. NOT. properly treat depression, or at least, they don't treat it any better than a placebo.

  • @PowowNinja

The placebo effect increases natural opioid levels, which in turn elevates levels of mood-boosting neurotransmitters. Antidepressants do have a psychological effect, but it's not a mood-boosting effect. These drugs do nothing more than mess with your neurotransmitters and cause random fluctuations in mood, and because you expect the drug to "cure" you, you interpret these effects in a positive light, because you want to believe that it's really working for your depression.

  • @PowowNinja

I was on Lexapro for a month and Paxil for 2 months. Worst 3 months of my life. And if you're depressed, look into supplements. 3g of L-tyrosine and 2g of L-tryptophan a day, combined with antioxidants and a multivitamin, worked better than antidepressants ever could for me. I know this is just my personal experience, but the truth is, there are thousands out there who realized the same thing as me: Antidepressants are a glorified placebo.

  • thanks :)

  • the entire phsycetruth channel is fucking garbage rubbish dogshit.

  • Drugs help people who need it .

    Enough said .

  • joe.schmo.angelfire. "com" anti depressants are depressants thats the placebo effect you are talking about "shriks" give meds to people that are know to cause strange thoughts like suicide and are not held responsible as a third party but if I give you a gun because you want to kill yourself I am going to be held liable as a third party the web address at the start of this paragraph is about stereo types and schizophrenics that every mad gunman is a schizo is not true but a lie to spread fear.

  • Half of your correlations are ridiculous. Like the correlation between school shootings and people being on antidepressants. All this means is that those people were depressed to begin with, thus got antidepressants (which is expected when you think about it), and that the antidepressants obviously weren't fantastic (and no one claims they are). It doesn't mean that they increase these things.

    Likewise with suicide.

  • I started on Wellbutrin, next to Celexa, then it was Effexor, Then from there is was Cymbalta. When I first started on anti-depressants they felt like just what I needed. I felt good, I laughed a lot, I always was in a positive optimistic mood. Believe it or not it all started with just one pill Wellbutrin which was administered just after my coming clean off of street drugs and alcohol addiction. Currently I am on: hydroxiyzine, trazodone, clontidine, and Cymbalta. I feel like killing myself. ☹

  • Comment removed

  • Nope they don't work, well not for me anyway, i'm just kidding myself by continuing to take them for many years, like you never know do you... but the withdrawal zapping sensations you get in your brain are a nice sensation, when you come off them i mean

  • according to the beyound blue web site the definition of a major depression is

"Major depression - a depressed mood that lasts for at least two weeks. This may also be referred to As clinical depression or unipolar depression. TWO WEEK??? WTF. This is were they get the stats from 1 in 5

  • Note, important to go to psychotherapy at the same time, and to figure out the source of your syptoms. Lexapro helped me to see things clearly...but obviously I am having to sort through the real issues. Lexapro is a "helper...a band-aid to help the healing." xoxox

  • Lexapro works for me if I take it 4-6 months at a time.........I take the smallest dose 5 mg "Every Other" day.....and it helps me to be tolerant in stressful situations and around negative people. I create new habit patterns that stay with me when I go off the drug. Subtle brain changes can turn your life around. Ironically, I too, used to be against antidepressants. ;)

  • antidepressant are not useful whatsoever, they do not target the underlying psychological problems. Good for them "drug industry", bad for the patients.

  • Know what's "funny?" These black box warnings on anti-depressants which state that the ONLY groups at risk for increased suicide adolescents and early 20's when there have been a ton of news stories (and more if you dig enough) of people on psych meds committing murder and/or suicide.

And there is ZERO proof that the stated pseudo-scientific mechanism of neurotransmitter action of a drug actually works at all.

Take omega 3's, vitamin D3, get rid of all refined foods and more common sense

  • best way to cure depression is listen to nirvana.

  • they didn't work on me when I was taking at the age of 14.

Can you believe that they let me use that when I was that young, and I was facing some adolescent problems that any teenager has.

It made me feel inferior at the age of 14, and it kept me feeling that I've been sick up till now. I just recently realize that it was all wrong.

People have to follow so many detailed prescriptions from our daily diet to lifestyle to this so called mental health maintenance.

    What the heck!

  • i have clinical depression, my med one not a cocktail at a low dose does work for me, me psyc doesn't like to high dose, due to everybody being different i have had to try several before i found the one that works for me, it's no placebo for me, without it and therapy i wouldn't here today, some ppl who don't take a med end up killing themselves and some ppl who take too many or the wrong meds end up suiciding, i know that i was a mess for years without my medication and now i'm not

  • get off zoloft . Pfizer will kill you if given the chance. They do not care about you. They don't even know how their own drugs work precisely and you will end up killing yourself or hurting a loved one and then they will help prosecute you instead of owning up to the fact Canada and New Zealand already are privy to Pfizers intentions. Pfizer KILLS!!!!! Kills good people and normal everyday people. Zoloft and prozac can kill you by killing yourself or a loved one. Pfizer stocksPLUMMET

  • The spinning newspaper effect is making me depressed.

  • psychiatry has damaged me very bad, i could live unmedicated, then i took lamicta and it gave me permanent manic state, even after 3 years of quiting the medicine i have to take seroquel and abilify for psychotic behavior induced by the lamictal that i took 3 years ago, i have many side effects, i still am psychotic and i lost lot of friends, death might be a good solution for me, PSYCHIATRY KILLS!

  • Comment removed

  • @lamictalinducedpsych My sister has a mental illness, and found out she is gluten-intolerant and dairy-sensitive. So all these years she has been eating foods she’s allergic to! She’s feeling much better, now, with the new diet, and vitamin/herb therapies, combined with the pharmaceuticals, (the side-effects from which have subsided). So, combined, I believe there is a place for prescription drugs. There are even pharmacies, now, that sell combination-therapy products. Nutrition cures all.

  • @lamictalinducedpsych I ran out of letters. I'd suggest seeing a naturopath. It really helped my sister. Usually you can get a free consultation, and you can just look one up in the yellow pages.

  • worked for me and all evidence is just theory anyway, who says a couple of years later they won't say they were wrong?

  • if anyone is depressed they should 1. change thier diet and 2 smoke as much cannabis as possible and the problem will work itself out in a matter of weeks

  • They work for me.

  • @martyaus2905

Enjoy your placebo. And your dead sex drive. And your physical addiction. And.... well, I could probably go on for pages.

You're being poisoned. If that actually helps your depression, then by all means keep taking your toxic placebo pill. Just don't go killing yourself now.

  • @SSJkiller Go lick the yeast off your moms cunt.

  • I have had suicide thoughts on and off for more than 5 years and I don´t really have reason to. Now the last months I have them on and off almost every day. Like my self confidence and depression and go up and down a few times a day. From thinking that I´m ugly as hell and have suicide thoughts to almost being happy and think that I´m good looking. I want to try to stop being depressed without anti depressants. It´s not only about my self confidence and I don´t have big reason to be de

  • I understand that they do give out anti depressants when you're feeling low easily. I don't know yet, but I have tried two dosage amounts of prozac which hasn't worked for me. If anything, it really makes you feel hopeless like things can't get better. Depends on the mind I guess though.

  • IT'S A FRAUD. Psychiatry is a FRAUD. They are forcing children as young as 2 years old to take dangerous experimental toxic chemicals.

FUCK THE GOVERNMENT, FUCK THE POLICE, RISE UP AGAINST CORRUPTION BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE! THEY ARE TARGETING US AND EXPERIMENTING ON THE LOWER AND MIDDLE CLASS.

The United States is a breeding ground for corruption. The police are murderers and terrorists.

  • You sound like a Scientologist- You sound like a close minded ---. There is no black and white. You need to chill- and check your meds- or get something that works for you- whatever that may be- why don't you take a trip to UTAH.

  • @corruptiongovernment 2 is far too young to put a child on a strong medication, i take an antidepressant, it works for me but then i'm 31 not 2 yrs of age.

active parenting and some solid concelling, plus lots of outdoor activities for very energetic children does more for so called uncontrollable ADHD/BIPOLAR kids then any medical does, my nephew is almost 2 he is a terror, daycare wanted him on a drug, instead dad takes him out to the park and lets him just run..worked wonders.

  • they want everyone to take drugs because they want the money and they also want total control of everyone's life. They want everyone to be sick and also control the population.

  • I found Sam-E works ! I get energy from and and if you take a Sam-E then hit the Cardio you will get high lol ... Feels sooooooo Good- Oxycontin only takes a few weeks to come off and it nowhere near as long as Antidepressants Withdrawal .

  • they really don't work.

  • A great book on this subject is America Fooled by Dr.Timothy Scott

  • oh, "if you ask for a specific drug from your psychiatrist, %80 of the time, he'll give it to you." %100 true, IF, it is an anti-depressant.

i have been struggling with various forms of anxiety and panic disorder for years, and when i asked for benzodiazepines

( the drugs PROVEN most effective for anxiety and PD) they tell me how i would be better off on any of the new SSRI or SNRI rolling off the pill presses, even though i have already had adverse reactions to both types. i refuse.

  • here's what I don't understand about this video, if you say that antidepressants are as effective as a placebo than how can you blame the drug as the reason why people commit suicide, murder, and shoot up schools?

  • @jlaw666

"antidepressants are as effective as a placebo" - meaning that they are as effective as a flintstones vitamins at actually treating depression. regardless of that, they still have a massive effect on the way serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine (depending on which specific class of anti-depressant) work in the brain. one common side effect is, well, more depression. also psychosis. that is excluding the physical side effects. i believe that answers your question.

  • @jlaw666 cause they do almost no real good, but they do affect brain and body chemistry, and can cause a lot of probs.

  • Very Very Good video! Since october 09 I I have been comming off cymbalta, still feeling very shaky just not feeling well was told it could take months for my body to re adjust itself. I will never go on another anti depressant again! Better off talking to someone rather than going through these symptoms of comming off this medicine, withdrawal. Drug companys have another name for it, they call it discontinue symptoms.

  • Very true antidepressants are real bad, comming off cymbalta since october o9 and still taking a low dose, side effects are just as bad comming off the medicine as they were taking it, such as shaking feeling worse all sorts of bad things, will never take another antidepressant.

  • The koolaid drinking fuckheads that made this channel are so full of shit it's disgusting

  • So.. antidepressants are placebos that have little to no effect yet cause suicidal/homicidal behavior? There is a lack of a unified consensus here.

  • I believe people should find more natural ways to overcome depression then using drugs. Its aslo important for drugs to be medical not mental.

  • @NationalS.. Cognitive behavioral therapy is often as powerful as anti depresants, however, it costs more to speak to a psychologist than take drugs.. which is why antidepressants get used so much. They do work for many people though, but are overused.

  • A placebo does the same in fact placebos have shown to work but the sciences shows that it did nothing other to convince a person psycologically they are improving.

  • Wrong! You really need to do your research- haven't you heard of double blind clinical trials? Every drug is tested against a placebo and the people taking the drug don't know if it's a placebo or not.

  • I agree- at least in part. In reality though, therapy is expensive and a multi-pronged approach is more flexible- some people benefit from anti depressant drugs who would be suicidal if they didn't take them.

Cognitive behavioral therapy has much empirical evidence in its effectiveness at beating depression- quickly and effectively.

  • Big pharma conspiracy babble, how original. You are full of $hit, I'm bipolar and am fine now because of those drugs.

  • finally someone who is not retarded

  • Wow o.o ive been on zoloft like 4 weeks then i suddely stoped dunno if is right but i feelt really happy and hyper after o.o but sometimes still depressed and suicidal.. can anyone here explain be a little whats up =S?

  • You are drawing too far reaching conclusions from the one study that showed antidepressants were no better than placebo. Please don't only look at the study but also the criticisms of that study and its inherent flaws. The British government did not ban these medications based on that study, which would have been the case if it was indeed flawless and conclusive. There were problems with the study, all you have to do is a google search and you will find them.

  • anitdepressants do work - the only reason we're finding they they 'don't' work is that we're using them on not as severe types of depression, dysthymia and emotional depression. believe me, if you were really depressed, you'd see a world of difference

  • weed is the best antidepressant ssri made me suicidal and almost ruined my life, now I smoke weed all the time and I feel happy, seriously these drugs are fraud.

  • WEED ISNT BAD tHeY TELL U ITS BAD pills make you addicted and dumb you down

  • Eli Lilly knew Prozac increased suicidality by a factor of 12 ro 1, according to their own trials.

They ordered their own employees to cover it up.

  • ive taken effexor for years now i cant stop taking it its so addictive and pregablin and they both make me feel better ive tryd not to take them but i go nuts without them i stopd taking for about 5 weeks and i was a depressed mess so i be fukd im proberly on them for life its shit but what do i do

  • you need to wean off over a year or more. I was on paxil for 10 years. It took me 1 year to taper off and another year to fully heal. Very dangerous stuff.

  • very bad these antidepressants,Iknow what you mean. I have been comming off cymbalta since october 09 and still now jan 2010 still having withdrawals, skaking and just not feeling well. Doctor said it could take many months for my body to readjust.

  • Hello. You need to be very very slow in tapering these serious meds. If you have been on anitdepressants for years you will need to withdraw over many many months. These medications are very dangerous and change the structure of the brain. The brain can recover but it takes a long long time.

  • @mcnabj well thats great that the brain can recover, i believe with the help of orthomolecular healing it can be even more effective!

  • I used to be on zoloft when I was 13. First couple of days, it made me lose my appetite big time and had to force myself to eat. But it did give me confidence, to be honest I really was happy. After a while though, I did notice that for some reason it didnt surprise me that it could make you think of suicide. And you know what, I was having those thoughts(for no reason!!), and the happiness wore off, so I got off of it and I felt better.

  • All fraud, always has been, psyhcology, psychiatry, pharmacy, 99,9% FRAUD. Most mood disorders and other diseases are caused by amalscams (mercury), vaccines, and other toxins released into the air, food and medicines... FRAUD

  • anti depressants work for me. LOL i have evidence from other friends im around and family members. so your first poin tin your video doesnt work for me.

  • good for you!

  • I went to the drug store and got a bottle of B-Complex and within 3 days I was so happy with life again! I just had a vitamin deficency and no stupid doctor ever tested me for that! Dumass Dr's.

  • I spent a good 5 years seeking help being pushed from one place to the next and being dished out a whole load of different pills.

Nothing helped so i gave up with the doctors and all that bs. I live with my illness rather then go through hell on those pills.

I believe Prozac was the cause of my uncles death

  • Comment removed

  • believe me these drugs are fraud. after consuming tons of them I'm even more depressed and fucked up and suicidal. I don't trust psychiatrists anymore. and withdrawal symptoms are much worse than those from marijuana...

  • withdraw from marijuana? you suck

  • Ive known ppl that have withdrawn from marijuana from going to smoking it everyday to not doing it at all.

  • im addicted to weed i have been for bout 12 years ive tryd o much to stop i do with draw when i stop i feel like shit get the sweats and i dont sleep an i get more depressed haghaha just coz u dont withdraw from weed doesnt mean others dont u suck my friend u suck my choclate salty balls i know im a shit speller u dont like that blow me peace

  • Hmmm you must have a shitty job with no drug test then

  • nope my job rules because they dont check me is that ok wiv u is cunt

  • hmm hows working at mcdonald's going for you then?

  • its great at lunch time coz im high as a kite and i get to eat all the food i want haha i love it u pen pushing bell end u wish u were me ay lol ps BLOW ME MUPPET

  • withdraw from herb? thats impossible looney toon its not crack of heroin its a plant

  • have u ever heard of the coca lant and the poppy plant u fucking stupid dickhead u talk shit man

  • WOW. Here i was looking for a way to get back on them. since i have been forced them for over 10 years. And its HARD i feel so depressed and everything. Im trying to find a better way to live but i dont know. i just feel that i have been fucked up in the head.

  • Get this book: The Ultramind Solution.

  • Another fantastic book is "Feeling good, the new mood therapy" Dr. Burns- it's a big (and well researched)book but will help.

  • Fantasticular video.

  • excitatory chemicals are released under stress, and these do cause cell death in the brain. Look up Robert Sapolsky on youtube. His work has to do with stress, largely. The end result of white society is the "work ethic" that is required of its members is unrealistic. We are animals, and as such we are NOT supposed to be stressed for 8+ hours a day. Simply, stress kills the brain structures responsible for turning off the stress response, which in turn kills more cells and creating depression!

  • I agree with most of your comments in this video. The thing about anti-depressants is that they do mess with the re uptake of serotonin , but yes, the problem is that lack of healing that takes place due to other factors. Hippocampal regions have shown in histological studies of patients suffering from depression to be smaller in comparison to control groups exhibiting no signs of depression. The thing here is that the hippocampus is largely responsible for controlling emotion...

  • im coming off of prozac dman hope somehting eles works but that shit makes me fell all kinds of crazy like im on lsd

  • thanks, this video help me write a paper

  • Many people have serious prblems after coming off a drug well guess what MY SISTER COMMITED SUICDE BY A SELF INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND TO HER HEAD! HOWEVER..IT SHOULD OF NOT BEEN LABELED THAT IT SHOULD OF BEEN LABELED MURDER BECAUSE..NOW AFTER MANY YEARS LOST IT ALL CAME TOGETHER..IT WAS THE ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUG WITHDRAWL- THAT IS WHAT KILLED HER!

  • I'm so sorry for your loss, my uncle recently killed himself over depression. All I could think was, why? but I don't blame him he wasn't his self. I hope your ok now though.

  • I've been on atleast 6 different anti-depressants since my teens. I knew they didn't work. When I came off Seroxat a few years ago, I told my doctor and she said, "According to the dugs rep, there are no withdrawal effects." It has now been proven beyond doubt that many people have serious problems coming of Seroxat (Paxil).

  • Please go to Yahoo and type in "Horrible Truth About Psychiatric Drugs" to see a research paper exposing these drugs. Also so the search "Documented Proof Psychiatric Drugs Shorten Lifespan". Be sure to include the quotes. You will learn information no psychiatrist will tell you. These drugs destroy fertility and libido and cause impotence and extream disphoria and obesity. The promote suicide and violence not prevent it.

  • ive been taking clonzepam for anxiety for 6 months, with no side effects that i can notice. my doctor says that i should come of it, i think ill be better off with them then without them. dp u know of the long term effects of clonzepam?? antidepressants were horrible :(

  • That's a benzodiazepine. This class of drug is the most frequently abused prescription drugs in the US.

They are highly addictive and tolerance and withdrawal symptoms set in as quickly as 2 to 4 weeks of use.

Withdrawal effects can include benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome with psychotic attacks characterised by dysphoric manifestations, irritability, aggressiveness, anxiety, and hallucinations.

  • I would say possibley sometime sooner than that depending on what the drug is. Anyone know about the TCA class of drugs?

WORSE THAN PROZAC I have heard!!

  • @psychetruth this guy is right about benzo's it's as addictive as an opiate and just as dangerous once you are highly addicted to get off of them suddenly.

a benzo is in emergency situations and very short term, example a women has a car crash, she is fine physically but mentally she is in shock, to treat this the dr may give her 10 mg of valium once, whilst she is waiting for a concellor, he wouldn't write a script with 5 repeats on it, because it is addictive.

  • @psychetruth they are not HIGHLY ADDICTIVE I WAS ON XANAX FOR 1 YEAR and was doing fine until the doctor said i had to stop it and put me on lexapro which made me suicidal in the first week of taking it..stop demonizing the ONLY pills that work which are BENZODIAZEPINES

  • Very nice, i can tell how some people at my school got messed up.

Where can i watch the "How to heal depression" video?

  • I have a ton of video on depression. Go to my homepage and use the search box located above the videos and search for depression.

  • I've been on zoloft, tried suicide twice, fuxotine, tried suicide once and am now on citalopram. Was feeling good until a month ago, started to present schitzofrenic symptoms, now on citalopram and risperidone. I feel a lot better in my mental health but there are many negative side effects, I've put on weight and I'm tried all the time. But I guess its that or being crazy. Even if antidepressants are placebos, I don't care, whatever keeps me from killing myself another day dude.

  • Now you are on antipsychotics, not antidepressants. There is a huge difference.

Cognitive behavior therapy has been found to be more effective at treating suicidality than medications.

  • Doubles the risk of suicide for those under 25??? That's seriously messed up...

  • without anti'ds i go pyschotic and angry and be depressed n anxious constantly :S

it is like im addicted 2 them or my body will no longer run properly without it

  • My friend got off them 1/4 pill each week and off.

  • dont take them.my mother was given them by her doctor but he never told her the side effects.now its gonna take her a year to get off them.

  • XTC in a secure enviroment improves fear disorders more, espially social anxiety disorders. Psychodrugs dont work in the longterm. Working on your behaviour, raw food and the most important: loving yourself improves psychic illness in the longterm. In fact healty living, healty thinking and healthy doing heals depression. You dont need medication. The body heals itself if u eat raw and live a healthy livestyle.

  • I TAKE LEXAPRO AND OMG IT MADE ME FAT

  • its bull shit i was on them at age 8 dont ever go to counseling your parents are bad just run away to the police department

  • im bipolar and have been taking meds for the past 2 months and i cant feel any difference they are a load of crap they dont work.

  • Thanks for this very Informative video

I was considering getting antidepressants to help my depression, but you've helped me stay away from them

    Thanks again :)

  • Yes! (like Marv Albert would say it)

  • thanks for this video it's concise!

  • well i take wellbutrin and it works pretty well, i'm not giddy and happy all the time, but at least i'm not why-don't-i-go-down-a-couple-dozen-sleeping-pills any more. They just make bad things seem . . .unreal, and they don't really register in my mind, i can think the same thought as i did before, but i just don't feel any pain from it.

But i absolutly love number 7, i completely hate my therapist, she's no help at all, but i don't have a choice so i'm stuck with her.

  • I can relate to what your saying...

  • dude THANX ALOT☺ your saved my relationship and the one i love i have been trying to tell her for months but she didnt know wut to do she was confused she didnt know who to belive me of them becuse i couldnt give her proof that they didnt work till i showed her this and i recommend this video to any one who is thinking about getting on them. im going to your site right now

  • Great to know I´m helping people so directly!

  • You are AWSOME!! I was taking Zoloft for 5 years and then my doctor switched me to Lexapro. I was taking Lexapro for about a year and didn't feel any change so I stopped taking it. The withdrawl symptoms are a BITCH. I told my dr about this PSYCHETRUTH and the things that are helping me and she had no one word to say. Not even about my withdrawls. Speachless. I'm still not taking them and just toughing it out. THANKS FOR THE INFO AND I WILL VISIT YOUR SITE!!

  • Yeah,SSRI`are useless for depression.I take Lorazepam and feel pretty well.

  • Can I ask what your alternative to psychiatry would be? I agree that anti-depressants are pretty useless (I have been on them for a year) and I think that it would be better to treat it through therapy and/or looking at social causes (I also think that psychiatry in general is a very sinister business). But what about something more severe like schizophrenia? What is the alternative approach to that?

  • For depression, the alternative I suggest is in my video, How to End Depression. For bipolar mania and schizophrenia, the highly controversial solution is to allow the person to go through their psychosis, supported, loved, but unmedicated. I´ve done this with a few people and it works. This year, I´ll be making more videos to explain this appoach in detail. I think the world is ready for it.

  • Thank you so much for this video. I'm not actually on anti-depressants (I'm not even 14 years old) but I think it's definitely a video more people should see

  • Thanks! More kids your age should see this stuff! Knowledge is power!

  • Withdrawal symptons:

    Brain Zaps

    Brain Shivers

    Eye Shocks

    Boing in the Brain

Cut back very gradually. VERY gradually.

Break the pill or capsule into tiny fragments at the final stages. Some and most drugs take a year to get off, but with diligence you can get off them with NO withdrawal symptoms.

  • How do you know they don't work if you've never had a mental illness needing to take them in the first place?

  • Scientific meta-analysis of all antidepressant clinical trails have shown that except in the most extreme cases of depression, they are more effective than sugar pills.

Evidence based medicine; the double blind randomized controlled study is considered the king of evidence and the evidence show that they aren't more effective than placebo.

  • you're amazing. good job.

  • I LOVE THE IMAGES!!!

  • thank you your vis are very informational

  • This extends with the A.D.D and A.D.H.D. meds as well. The prescriptions for Ritalin have gone up 600% in the past 5 years.

25% of students in some schools are on meds.

And do the drugs really help these kids? I meet as many parents who say they still deal with issues with their kids not doing well ON DRUGS than without them.

I took the option to homeschool my son and he does much better now.

  • Frootbat, just to clarify, the school said your son had ADD, so you are homeschooling him rather than medication? If that´s the case, you are one great parent!

  • The school was pushing the issue of my son having ADD, which prompted us to see a doctor and then a therapist. The Therapist claimed he had ADD- after 30 minutes of talking to my son who answered readily, and behaved the entire time. I have no idea where he got my son had ADD. He gets unfocused, but he's only 8 yrs old.

Now that he's homeschooled- without medication- he is learning well, focused with a bit of prompting, and doing fine.

    thanks for the compliment.

  • Share your story with others frootbat! You are a heroine! hero?

  • well, some strong medication for people with severe depression or manic depression IS DEFINATELY EFFECTIVE. if they didn't take them, the moods would not be stabalized at all. You must be careful between associating some of the milder drugs with severe drugs, used for pscytsophrenia, bi polar and severe clinical depression. These drugs work simply because you can see if the person does not take them they can not function.

  • Don't confuse drug withdrawal with the original reason the person started to take the drug. Stop antidepressants causes drug withdrawal symptoms or discontinuation syndrome.

The withdrawal symptoms are often much worst than the original symptoms the person attempted to control with the medications.

The fact that people feel bad after stopping an addictive medication in no way proves the drug was more effective than a sugar pill; only that it caused withdrawal.

  • I couldn't have made a better video myself. Anti-depressants SUCK SUCK SUCK!!!! The people who prescribe drugs are just as dangerous as the drugs themselves and will try to diagnose you so they can deal more of them. I "love" how the pharma companies say that depressed people are at a risk for suicide. The increase in suicides came once these drugs came out! SSRIs SUCK worse than politicians! Definitely find alternatives like proper nutrition and exercise. Drugs suck!

  • I like how reason #1 is that they don't work, and then #6 says the feelings come back when you quit them.

  • The "feelings coming back" are usually worse than the original reason the person started taking the medication plus a host of other symptoms the person never experienced. These are literally withdrawal symptoms caused by being addicted to the drugs. It's known as discontinuation syndrome in the drug industry.

  • check out- psychiatry an industry of death

  • It is so sick. When you have depression you are looking for hope and the drug company promises it.... only to find out that there have been very few case results from that drug for recovery from depression.

  • AMEN! I love this video and I'm glad someone is sharing the information I have been seeing a lot lately.

  • some people need medication. the masses don't.

  • =like story of three Indian blind men who each feel different parts of an elephant.. one thinks it's a 'snake' (the trunk), one thinks= tree-trunk (the leg), next a branch (the tail)..psychiatrists/psychologists are like these blind men who blindly feel out with no genuine experience and full of self-serving bias..they both grab different ends of the 'stick' and only a person who's suffered with these evil conditions lifelong can understand their full 'three-dimensional' reality

  • Exceleent post! Couldn't have said it better myself. We've been battling back and forth for decades. If drugs are bad, the answer must be psychotherapy. If psychotherapy is useless, then the answer must be drugs. Their both bull! I know that elephant well.

  • Why don't doctors tell people to exercise or meditate?? Studies have proven that exercise is even more affective for depression then anti-depressants. Meditation has been proven more affective then anti depressants as well.. But doctors will prescribe benozidiazepine & akathesia in a heart beat, even though they have immense side effects that are life threatening, get you hooked, & increases depression & risk for suicides....

  • Most medicinal research done in the US is paid for by the pharmaceuticals industry.

They don't pay for nutrition or exercise studies since the results might potentially lose them money.

Pharma does scientific studies on drugs only. The research is then distributed via medical journals to doctors.

Doctors are then educated by pharma drug reps.

These factors slant conventional medicine towards always using drugs.

  • I understand, it just infuriates me that these doctors will give all these drugs when they are clearly more alternatives... Also laughing is GREAT for depression because of the endorphins it releases which is a natural pain killer & gives one a feeling of euphoria... I know for me I will never put any of these drugs in me

  • After I heard this video and read the research,, I stopped taking my anti-depressants. That was 2 wks ago. Today i am suicidal. Be careful what you put on a public profile, as any true medical advice should geared towards the individual.

  • He specifically warned people in the video that often people can become "extremely suicidal" when they stop taking these medications.

It's best to withdrawal from these drugs while under the care of a qualified medial professional.

Many people can't cold turkey off these drugs without extreme discomfort. Doctors will often

taper a person off of the drugs slowly.

  • obviously medical professionals are going to tell me to go back on the drug.

  • Some yes, some no.

Remember that a doctor works FOR you. You're paying him. So if he won't work with you, find someone else that will.

You may want to look for a holistic doctor or a naturopathic doctor or an MD that also practices clinical nutrition or a orthomolecular psychiatrist.

Coming off those drugs is a serious issue. If I was in your shoes, I would probably start taking the medication again myself and then find a doctor that would help me taper off the medication slowly.
