i like Harrison Ford. he is one of my favorite actors, but unfortunately i would have to say that this scene in the movie would be inappropriate because it goes against Spielberg's rule to not show adults faces in the movie except for dee wallace throughout the movie and the search guys and medical doctors at the very end. spielberg has said dee wallace is a kid from the way she acts and her personality in real life.

Call me crazy, I like this alternate ending better. It works better with the beginning of the film where Elliot was mistreated by his brother and friends and this ending shows him being included with them and that life has gone pretty much back to normal for him because of his experiences with E.T. and that the house is returned to its original state so the family can live in peace again without being bothered by the government. IDK, that's just my opinion.

damn. no fair that it wasn't included in the 20th anniversary re-release and stupid decision of Mr. Spielberg to not show Harrison Ford.

It wasn't added into the re-release cause Spielberg didn't want to "overtly change" the film.

It would have been nice to add this scene as a standalone bonus on the Ultimate Gift Set edition, but this was just mentioned and briefly shown in the extended documentary on the third disc.

Maybe when it comes out on Blu-Ray maybe Spielberg could add it in as a bonus.

they are playing D&D and they finally let elliot play.. as it pans out, the rader communicator thing ET made is on the roof.. they didnt use this in the movie because they felt they couldnt change the emotion of the ending they used for the final cut of the movie.

Great to see the alternate ending. It nicely ties the end with the first scene with Elliott wanting to play the game with the older kids. And this ending would have put more emphasis on the thematic idea of the film "kid growing up" than the existing ending, which now I cannot help feeling a bit corny...

They were supposed to kill and dissect frogs. Elliot, I think because of his connection with ET, couldn't bare to do ti and set his frog free. Then others started to follow suit, and Elliot ran around freeing all thr frogs, and that caused a LOT of chaos in the class.
