@rapiti They eased it pretty quick , but i don't think its easy to just "blow the jib" on a 40 footer. Looks like the skipper headed down too, but the rudders were out of the water so quick, it was too late. Just goes to show how quick these guys have to react. I'm sure you would have had it though......
Hitting that spreader had to hurt. And this is a perfect illustration of carbon fiber being super strong in compression, but not so in tension. At 0.37 the guys landed hard on the side of the mast probably between 45 and 60 degrees angle and folded it. Looks intense. I'd do it in a second.
Sure, but I only saw three riding the boat back. It turns out they are ok, but as exciting as this NASCAR type racing is, it would be nice to also report that the sailors are indeed safe, as that is in no way guaranteed.
captain: it was on honor sailing with you gentlmen!
1st mate: aye!
2nd mate aye!

Blow the jib, homes! Then, bail early, so your high dollar pro sailor ass doesn't land on the friggin' side of the spar. Amateur hour, bitches!

Buena clavada.

lol @ the human condition..... these kind of things are what bring attention to the extreme 40 series.... until someone really gets hurt..
Im gonna then enjoy watching the big guns talking about safety and responsibility...

I can't even imagine how scary it'd be to pitch pole such a large cat. Also that mast snapped like a twig.
