One way to do it quicker is to glue the pages in a block (don't glue to the back cover yet) then tie the covers back and cut out the middle with a scroll saw. Then you can glue the now hollowed out block to the back cover and you're done.
@wokmage That would have been more ideal. Unfortunately for me and my time, I didn't have one, and most of my projects I try to do on low or zero budget. But when I get a job and work my way up the pay ladder, I'll definitely buy more tools for myself to work with.
@krayvis Yeah, I hear you about the budget, luckily I have access to a decent workshop. In any case once you get some more financial means a scroll saw is definitely a handy tool to have for small projects of this type. I would definitely recommend picking up a scroll saw and a tabletop drill press. Still, the way you did it worked out pretty slick all things considered and with considerably less dust generated. Cutting paper with a saw can make a surprisingly large mess.
