1. Both take place on an isolated island.

2. Former military forces who fed up with the government took hostages and demand ransoms or else they launched missiles to kill more innocent people in the nearby city.

3. A special forces were sent to deal with the threat, but all members got killed except the main characters, one is a newbie on his first field assignment, another is a forgotten living legend.

The Rock is still one of the greatest action movies if not the best where in its time, there were no much special effects, but jsut a concert of stuntmen, actors and a good script. I still watch it time to time nowadays.

There's a good reason why both Metal Gear and The Rock go so well together. Both this song and music in The Rock were done by the same man Harry Gregson-Williams :)
