i loved phish long long long before i ever went to a show and realized the culture.
Don't let the close-minded people get to you.
Ill let you in on a secret, i like that new girl, uhh, taylor swift? most wont admit these things, but i don't care, because music is opinion, not fact
I've been a phan since college back in '91. Camden '09 was absolutely pure and true phish having a good time and creating awesome energy! Messing up Fee lyrics (and Lizards) and rocking Joy and Sugar Shack was the icing on the cake!
during the verses it's D>G, and then E>G during the "i tried, i tried" lyric.....for the "we want you to be happy" part it's G>D>A. haven't figured out the one other part, but this is the basic structure of the song.
The new album's title will offically be "Joy." First song on the album is 20 years later, a real ripper that I can't find on youtube. If you know it's on here from the JB2 show, please message me.
I went to my first phish show when I was 9 and I haven't been the same since. Their new songs are great, especially ocelot. I can see joy being used in a lot of movies soon. They really know how to play together well and show that on stage
I couldn't agree more that this is a Hollywood "movie" song.
As I mentioned below I think there is a very, very strong Beatles influence here, although this song is a bit more somber than the vast majority of Beatles...
i just heard this song for the first time at the alpine valley show on sunday and im hooked. this song shows how wide of variety of genres phish can play. they are the most talented band of this time. their concerts are just ama, zing i went to my first show llast weekend im 15 years old and phidh is one of my favorite bands. rock on
I don't see it, but I still think the chorus is a fantastic one. Phish is really good at singing one line over and over for a chorus on top of a three-chord progression. I don't mean that in a bad way.
Tom is a friend of Tre's from Burlington VT who writes the music (aka the "jams") for most of the phish's songs, including the classic Faht, which is where the term for something that is cool, or "dope" came from. Coincidentally, Tom also started a little known ice cream company with a guy named Jerry.
You have no idea what you are talking about. I went to the University of New Hampshire for a year in 2006-- that is where the band went. They all graduated there in 2004 and the band started then. I have been to a phish show and listen to the CD "Bitterroot Motel." So, all told, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm talking about.
hell yea. ur 15. im 23. and i have 30, 35 yr old frends who are jst as passionate bout this band and love all their live music

when i bought the CD, and popped it in, it was immediately apparent this song was about treys sister. I was sad :(

I get that from the version of Mood Indigo with Ellington and Coleman Hawkins. Makes me weep like a girl scout- every time!

i'm pretty sure the lyrics are by trey, as this song was written about trey's sister fighting cancer.

Does anyone else besides me think that this song has a very strong Beatles feel to it? In particular the chorus.

What a show. I like this better than some of the other slow songs they've done this decade. Nice chorus. Really digging Sugar Shack too.

My favorite of the new tunes. Are these Tom lyrics?
PlayRipple 2 years ago 2
They don't seem good enough to be Tom lyrics, in my opinion. At the same time, they're not as contrived as Trey's lyrical style, so who knows.

who is tom
zt322 2 years ago
Tom Marshall a friend of Treys who has written many of phish's lyrics.

oh nice, thats probly who came up with the phish food flavor too
zt322 2 years ago
Are you joking?
You couldn't be further from the truth. Tom was Trey's friend, but he write's lyrics for phish, not music.
Faht was an instrumental written by the drummer.
And the ice cream company was started by a guy named BEN and Jerry, not tom and jerry

nice i was about to say the same thing... Tom defn writes the lyrics....the band defn writes the music....fo sho
