EU provides enormous amounts in direct aid to Zimbabweans. Suffice to say that only during the last two years EU provided 300 million euro in aid to Zimbabwe. For a comparison, this amount nearly offsets servicing astronomic external debt of Zimbabwe.

The problem is that this aid just alleviates some pain, but does not treat the illness of Zimbabwe - its totalitarian communist regime of Mugabe. No matter how much the aid is, if Zimbabwe economy does not start to work, it is a waste of money.

Rhodesia was super. Zimbabwe inherited from Rhodesia everything an African country can only dream about: commercial agriculture that produced every possible grain, fruit or vegetable, even resin, diverse and well functioning industry, developed network of roads and railroads, cities' infrastructure, schools, hospitals and civil services...

the land does not belong to the white farmers since in the first place they are the ones who colonised Zimbabwe, however since they had the know how Mugabe should not have taken all the land but should have negotiated with them and possibly give underutilised land to fellow blacks with the neccessary skills to utilise the land.

However, the land that the white farmers worked and developed belonged to them and they are not colonisers. They are your white African brothers. Your president robbed them of their land, taking your food and economy away from you.

Many of these farmers are welcomed elsewhere in Africa.

Hansie0Slim, I agree with you. Zimbabwean woes began with people with a very little understanding of unity and most importantly how the economy works. They took over the very commercial farms that were the backbone of the Zimbabwean economy and see what happened. Now nearly 50% of Zimbabweans are facing starvation. The land reform program might have had good intentions but it went horribly wrong. A pre-2000 Land Reform Zimbabwe was a better Zimbabwe, and one we pray for now.
