  • God Bless you so much for uploading this video.

  • The animation is spectacular. It's like a storybook coming to life. The best part is when the snowman and the boy fly.I love that part.

  • Boy, those parents are sound sleepers

  • Watching this makes me feel all warm inside just like I'm a kid again. Back when the world only had innocent and good things in store :)

  • This surely bring back strong memories of a sweet childhood :)

  • I'm Aled Jones - it's all gone wrong for me.

  • @HeartStringMelody Aled Jones was much more pleasant when he was 12?

  • @HeartStringMelody PETER AUTY Sang this song in the movie, Aled Sang it in 1985.

  • @sargentaaron2004 I know :) I was just quoting Bill Bailey.

  • @HeartStringMelody Oh yeah ;)

  • A great way to spend Thanksgiving - Being a kid again. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving y'all - - - Sean Michaels - Birmingham AL 11/24/11

  • *8:14* I'm not crying. No. Definitely not. I'm not a kid anymore. Those days are behind me. Long gone. Totally out of reach now, when the world seems so much less cheerful and simple... Now I'm absolutely not crying.

  • I love and cry for this when i'm a child , the music is just like a symbol of my childhood and my generation, now i'm 27 , from Hong Kong

  • those memories....

  • 4 people were never children.

  • Such pointless comments on here, its a cartoon from somebody imagination pointing out useless facts of what it would be like if it was real life is irrelevant and to be honest no one gives a shit.. its a classic n millions of people love this all around the world...

  • his parents can sure sleep through a lot of noise lol but great animation

  • this brings me back to my child hood aged 6 i am now 28 and my kids love to watch this on christmas day

  • Wow, I think this movie brings back more memories than anything else from childhood.

  • the voice reminds of the theme from Mononoke-Hime

  • 我細個睇已經覺得好感動,雪人又好可愛,而家睇都一樣

  • The first time I saw this video was at age 5. I am now 20 years old sitting in front of my computer with a cup of Columbian coffee recalling how great this film is...this is just the best experience right now :...)

  • I think this animation would be ruin if it had dialogue.. i guess since were use to this one lol.. and since the book dont have no words.. i think? its been a long time since i had the book..

  • Aww, look how curious the snow man is. lol.. love it.. brings me back to my childhood..

  • I wounder if this was in the animation show, it would go good in it

  • I'd LOVE to see Darren Aronofsky (Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, the Wrestler) direct a movie adaptation of Raymond Briggs' book. 'The Snowman' seems like the type of film he could do justice to. Thumbs up if you a agree.

  • AAAAAAAAAAAH u sliced the song into two pieces!!!!!!!!

  • if this kid was black... the snowman wouldnt have come alive, and if it did he would have got his ass wooped for lettin a snowman hyjack his dad's motor cycle at like 2 in the fuckin morning

  • @poppag610 haha!

  • 0:19 That... kinda scared me when I was young.

  • @MrPetrolhead09 what?

  • @ultra3495 What do u mean what!

  • how someone dare press the dislike button???!!?!?!?!?!?

  • Those landscapes when they are flying, reminds me how good and mysterious and magical the world was to me as a child.

  • oh what ever ur name is why say such an irrelivant thing this is such a nice movie it doesnt need bad comments so just shut up and keep ur nasty irrelivent comments 2 urself i hate people like u in the world fuck u u nasty piece of shit wanker!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • there is pinguin! it's Southern Atmosphere!

  • @hkecowitch yay man that snowman knows his way around quickly :)

  • Also, I would like to add that the Snowman exhibits no sign of having a motorcycle license, or any form of driving license during these scenes. Given that he was apparently created only 1 day before he took charge of a motorized vehicle, I must say this is most irresponsible.

  • I love this Snowman way more than Frosty. <3

  • @mazza558. I always felt that way but couldn't find the words. It's nice to know that 2 people can share the same sentiment.

  • I want to be a kid again. Please? I wouldn't mind being a child and watching good old cartoons like these. :)

  • Alright, I can get over the fact tha there are penguins in the North Pole, and that the kid doesn't die of hypothermia during any of this, but what I can't get over is how deaf these parents are. The house could be burning down and they'd still be fast asleep.

  • @RomanLettore the snow doesn't make any sense too. It's just a layer on top of the animation. Sorry but that's just being plane lazy. Lern how 2 anumatie lulz you lazy bastards!1

  • @RomanLettore

You're kidding, right? How can you focus on those things when watching this?

  • @RomanLettore It's called aesthetic distance: The ability to take in a story even though you know it's not reality.

  • This is a MASTERPIECE.

  • good vidio and soundtrack

  • Is it me, or do they fly over Brighton? haha, too good.

  • @TheEndearingBeavers Yes its Brighton

  • Does anyone think there's something timeless about the bit 5 mins 8 seconds in and onwards? He's lying there in the freezer, not really doing that much; something's not quite right. He sees the picture of the North Pole and realises he doesn't have much time left to do what he needs to do.

When I hear about people with terminal illnesses living with utmost determination, I think of this specific bit. And when something NEEDS to get done, I remember the music. Ah, it's pure brilliance.

  • @mazza558 That's true. I hadn't thought of it like that before. You could also say that he's pretty much experiencing all of life in one day from being created until he's gone. All the small ordinary things in that sense are things he hasn't experienced before or will ever experience again.

  • i love this little "film" this is going to be my daughters first christmas and im going to carry on my family tradition of watching this on christmas eve after bath time :D

  • why are they rolling their rs??? welsh accent??? x

  • Hey people, your childhoods are dead, there's only death to look forward to

  • @vampyrhart And I will face it head on but for now I want to look at my childhood thats still alive :)

  • @vampyrhart Thank you for that. Now I'm incredibly depressed... *skips to dance scene* Ah, that's better!

  • so cute and fun!!!

  • i have this on vhs

  • ...this is one of the best memory in my childhood...:]

  • Every time I ask someone if they've heard of or seen The Snowman, I usually get the same response, "What, Frosty? Of course I have!" Sorry, but there's no comparison. This Snowman touches parts that other snowmen just cannot reach.

  • I'm sure a lot of us are Americans. This brings back so many memories...

  • I love the part with the teeth!! LOL

  • That build-up from 5.28 gives me shivers no matter how many times I hear it

  • LOL.

  • Are all of you British? It's very sad. No one in America (that I know) appreciates this movie the way it deserves

  • @PretzelsWithBrie I know an American girl who I've described this to and I know she just doesn't quite get it... I'm going to have to make her watch it this Christmas. And embarrass myself when I cry like a baby

  • @PretzelsWithBrie tell me about it! i moved to canada a few years back and it pains me that nobody knows about this! thank goodness i have the dvd

  • @PretzelsWithBrie I'm American!! And I LOVE this movie and song. It's such a part of my childhood memories. I've hummed this tune ever since, but only recently discovered the name of it. when I heard it again I was completely freaking out. I was like, "You guys, this is THAT song! This is from my movie! This is from The Snowman!"

so you are not the only one who appreciates this great story.

  • @PretzelsWithBrie I'm an American and saw this when I was a kid. The end made me cry like a baby.

  • @PretzelsWithBrie this played on the public channel in california when i was a kid, minus the david bowie, unfortunaely. i was about 9-10, many years ago now.

  • I love this song lol at 6:14 hes like "Whatssup bitch" and then the flying Snowman is like "Nothin' homie jus' doin' my anuel flight yanno" LOL! Love this part!

  • ive known this story since i was 5 (:

  • i cry everytime since i was a kid, i just can`t believe i love it so much.

  • Yep, i'm 24 (most people here seem to be mid-20s) because we grew up with this. Th is song 'Walking in the Air' is so haunting and beautiful. This video was like a drug in my childhood. It is so perfect. Words cannot describe the emotional vibe I get from this.

  • i remember watching this back in year 1

  • I cried ...

  • The buildup from 5:21- 5:58 is so epic . The snowman realizes he must part, there is anxiousness... the boy doesn't know what to do... he goes!

  • I just watched this because of the Nostalgia Critic mentioned in a Top 11.

I'm from Mexico, and I never heard of this animated special...

But this is, by far, one of the most beautiful films that I ever seen.

The song "Walking in the air" is so warming, chilling, and classical.

The end is so bittersweet, that I'm thankful that I never see it, because It could scar me for life.

Forgive any incorrect use of english language...

  • Oh, the end is so sad! As an adult it almost brings me tears, and I would watch this is a child...

  • @chamanvolador you're exactly like me. I'm also from Mexico and never in my life i've heard of this until Nostalgia Critic mentioned it.

This is really a beautiful movie and i'm glad i found it on youtube

  • incredible!... but where is the end?

  • Good question...I had a look and it's been blocked thanks to Sony and Universal. Sorry about that, beyond my control

  • @warrax111 You wouldn't want to know how it ends....it would be too depressing

  • cool

  • this takes me back to 89' when I was 5

  • The story took place in Brighton as the building at 6.27 is the Royal Pavilion

  • The Snowman can ride a motercycle and fly in the air....Frosty's got nuthin' on this!

  • i started crying when is aw this but now iam lmfao

  • I love the music to this film:)

  • Gives me butterflies every time I watch this. This is the most beautiful Christmas movie I have ever watched in my life.

  • Why does this film leave an imprint that can't go away after so many years, almost a feeling of being a child again

  • That kid is just waiting to hit puberty.

  • @mecrazy5

    wat

  • It couldn't have all been a dream because he had the scarf, but it makes it more sad if it was a dream. But all the more magical that it wasn't.

  • "walking in the air" is personal to me, becuase it was played at my grnadmothers funeral when I was 7.

  • haha i remember watching this in kindergarden and laughing so hard with my friend whenever we heard that song. And when their flying and riding the motorcycle. lmfao!!

  • This holds a special place in my heart. Yeah, sounds weird. But there's a certain sense of nostalgia, the same sense of nostalgia that makes me believe in children, when we believed in things.

I'm afraid that many kids these days are being raised on realistic looking violence (Grand Theft Auto, for example) at a VERY young age.

Parents, raise your kids on good stuff. Just like this video. This is the kind fo goodness you hardly find today. God is counting on you.

  • this the comment i would have wanted to post

I was thinking about "the snowman" last week (10 years after last watching it) and then when I saw it memories started flooding

  • @EventuallyWeMerge Spoil sport. Also, don't make a fairly persuading argument and then bring God into it at the last minute, it just compromises your position and makes you sound like a weirdo.

  • wonderfull song

  • I watch this movie every christmas and it always brings back soooo much childhood memories.. =)

  • 7:02 is pure gold :)

  • I love how it's colored. it really looks and feels like colored pencils and pastels instead of paint. It feels like every animation frame including the backgrounds were colored in colored pencils. That to me, really gives it a warmth, that's what I love about 2d animation

  • It's so surprising to hear such a haunting song in a children's film. Probably my favorite part.

  • I've never gotten such huge chills from a song before.

  • sameeee

  • Classic

  • The Lverpool Philarmonic Sat 19th Dec, come watch the movie with a live orchestra, I can't wait!

  • The snowman is SO cute :D

If it snows I want to make one just like him lol

  • I miss being a kid some time.

  • No matter what age you can still have fun!

  • 6:22 Brighton's Royal Pavilion

    6:34 Brighton Pier

I live 2 minutes away from the real Royal Pavilion.

  • Wow, rock on! Have you ever flown over it with a snowman? LOL

  • This beautifully illustrated film has a magical quality all of its own. The whole score is just delightful.

Apart from 'Walking In The Air', I absolutely LOVE the Snowman's Music Box Dance.

I first saw this as a little child and even tho I'm now 30, it's nice to know that adults can still dream and feel like kids again. I was reminded of that while watching Walking In The Air clip and nearly cried.

Take me flying with a snowman anyday!

  • im 26 and i still love this Cartoon!! man nothing can beat this Cartoon lol :-)))) enjoy everyone!!!

  • I love this!!

  • wow, thing brings back good memoriees ^-^ Bowie<3

  • Love this movie, brings back so many childhood memories

  • i agree 100% bring back old memories! old SCHOOL FRIENDS & STUFF! IM 26 AND STILL WATCH SNOWMAN!

  • I'm 27 and watching this for the first time, and I simply love it. I have a book based on this, but the book is not as detailed as this one.

  • Come to Norway in Winter.

Meet the snow men..It is a wonderland.

    A paradise.

  • When I was little, everytime I saw this movie, I'd always feel so anxious when they went away from his house! ^_^ I would think, "does his mommy and daddy know that he's flying thru the air with some crazy snowman?!" LOL. The music on this is so beautiful, truly a classic and a must-see movie. Wonderful, snowy fun!

  • MrPolaski:

I am floating in the air,

i am swimming in the froZen sky...

  • I've been watching this video since I was 3 years old (I am not 23). Even after 20 years, this video has brought me tears every time I watch it. I really feel it deals with living in the moment and taking advantage of times that are most important before they are gone.

George Winston does an amazing piano solo of this song that really brings all the elements together. Worth buying his CDs

  • I am the God of the Arctic and the snow; call me the Snow Man.

That section where they fly in all it's unfathemable beauty is my inside person.

    I love it!

    I want to be cold.

  • Love this movie. When i was little i always wanted my snowman to come to life...

  • Best movie ever made by far.

  • I concur.... This movie has impacted my life a lot!

I love this movie, still of age 26...

  • this film really reminds me of when i was a child and all winters felt like that.

magic times! its a shame we have to grow up. but I still love this film

  • walking in the air is such a beautiful song...and this movie is just indescribable. too beautiful for words

  • @bhsmiler08 Amen. Simply Amen.

  • @bhsmiler08 Around 1:48 I get this CRAZY wave of Nostalgia when the Snowman starts dancing......And of course the biggest wave of nostalgia comes from 'Walking In The Air'.......This movie holds a special place in my heart, and I actually bought it at Wal-Mart this Summer. I want to watch it with my family this Christmas, even though my sisters don't appreciate this as much as I do.

  • @EventuallyWeMerge Simple a masterpiece sir.

  • We walking in the air...

  • i love the walking in the air song. thats the part i remembered most. on a side note, i would never let a snowman give me a ride on a motorcycle. dangerous stuff

  • I'm crying...

  • one of the most beautiful scores ever written.

  • I meant to mark you up, I accidentally marked you down!

  • lol, well thanx for the explanation

  • Thank you so much for sharing this story here! I always wanted to watch this. When I was little, I saw many advertisements for this and this song was often played, I longed to see the animation, but never got the chance, until now. Thanks to you and YouTube. :)

  • The Snowman, to me, is one of those stories where you develop a true magnectic connection to, with the wonderful storyline, music and art the movie provides.

  • They show this film in Finland too, every Christmas eve. ^-^ A yearly tradition of mine to watch it.. I love it so much. It's a shame cartoons like this are not made anymore, not too often anyway.. this is pure art.

  • It wouldn't be christmas without it.

  • so true...^-^

  • Does anyone know what the name of the song that the music box plays? I heard it on a new age radio, only it was a piano instrumental. I immediately thought of this scene, and now I'm craving to know the name of the song. Thanks!

  • I have no idea what the name of the song is, but I'll take a look around for you, and if I manage to find out then I'll let you know :)

  • Awesome! Thanks so much! :)

  • Right, after a little bit of detective work I've discovered the name of the song is "The Snowman's Music Box Dance" and it was originally written for the film by Howard Blake. A guy called George Winston did a piano version of the song on a new age album called "Forest" and that was probably the version you heard. I hope that helps :)

  • Oh awesome!! Thanks so much!!! :)

  • You're very welcome :)

  • Its the SnowMans Music Box Dance by George Winston

  • You can probably buy the soundtrack. By my own observation, the melody is VERY similar to "flying" from Peter Pan (same key too) : watch?v=1adnfIBOYeE&feature=related

  • Simply "wonderful"....I can't believe I never saw this before!!!!...Thank you SO much for posting, I can't wait to show my son and daughter.

  • I love The Snowman I grew up always watching it during the winter, it's not lame at all it's quite artistic and it will always be a favorite of mine

  • Firstly, nobody forced you to watch it, and secondly, if you have issues with being half English then that's entirely your fault. Sure, everybody is entitled to express an opinion, but in your case I think you should hold onto it.

Quit with the bad language too. A lot of kids watch these vids, and there's no need for it.

  • whichever of your parents is british, they probably hate you too i could only assume.

  • Kinda like when Bart brought home the fake Michael Jackson LOL

    good stuff though,

    ending theme is timeless

gotta learn this on the piano

  • everyone here is saying the same thing. Its a phenomenon that this cartoon is so good at bringing up emotions we have in us correlating and in tune with our child hood. Im 24, and this is insane. I want the dvd.

  • Last May on a holiday in the Lakes, we decided to check out the pencil museum (srictly for a laugh!) they played the flying scene at the end of a 10min documentary, and in a room or ppl watching i tried to hide my emotions, this gets me every time not just the ending, as AurynofAsia said, its the taking back to childhood. knowing you can't go back but have fond memories. i still have to watch this every Christmas Eve Channel 4 puts it on. i also love thne music at the snowman's dance!

  • It's terribly sad, not because of the ending but because of the amount of emotions that are triggered that I hadn't felt since childhood. I can't believe how powerful this cartoon is to me even still after so many years.
