  • trollson welles.

  • What if this was actually real, but the Men in Black covered it up?

  • @Trexlerator yes, because the men in black went back in time, and forced orson welles to say "war of the worlds by h. g. welles"

  • Also, this wasn't a prank. People just thought it was real, they said in the beginning it was from the book

  • After 39 minutes people must have pissed them self from think it was real, and then hearing it was just from the book lol

  • @Phycozz too bad they didn't have twitter and google back then to check if it was really real.

  • Isn't it more like "Orson Welles - the ORIGNAL Punk'd?"

  • Two things, 1, i think this is the longest video ever, and 2, how did you get this recording?!?

  • @ProfessorKizzler The recording is widely available on CD from various companies and was available on LP & tapes for years before that. It is in the public domain (despite what some ill-informed people have said on that silly Yahoo Answers site).

  • @ProfessorKizzler you can get it on w w w . m e r c u r y t h e a t r e . i n f o !

  • An invasion of nearly unstoppable alien invaders threaten to destroy the earth. And now, back to our orchestra for some dance music!

Still, despite the occasional lack of logic (on behalf of the characters, not Welles), it is the best radio show ever.

  • God, people will dislike anything just for the sake of going against the grain won't they?

  • "this world was being watched closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own." Maybe we're being watched now.

  • These radio plays are pretty cool. Makes you use your imagination.

  • Man thanks for uploading this! I thought I would never have the oportunity to listen to it.

  • Watching this movie right now, some fucked up shit here!!

  • What if this was all real but the aliens took over Government and forced the radio station to remake the tape so that it was as if it was just a story and they continue to rule us today. Not saying I believe that, but what if?

  • @OddOpinion You know too much. *Picks up red phone, dials 0* "President, we have a Code Red".

  • nazi zombies!!!!!!!

  • i would have loved to be alive as a kid listening to this

  • 7 people are Marsians

  • 31:56 New york gose ape shit

  • If your doorbell rings and no one is there, that was no martian, its Halloween.

  • Can't believe i just accidentally disliked this!

  • please remember the terrible lesson you've learned tonight...............DON'T FUCK WITH MARS!!!

  • Win.

  • I remember my Grandpa told me stories about this day he was 8 and was so scared him and his whole family hid in the basement and prayed the whole day and listened to the broadcast

  • You all know this was an act / play from the book, right? The reason people believed it was because there were no commercial breaks, and they usually sent news on that channel. They said in the beginning that it was only a play, but many people switched over as the history had begun, therefor alot of people believed it to be real.

  • @UnicornFTWPs3 People believed this was true because some of them did not hear the introduction, and thought that world was going to be in war.

  • @CookieTheEpic Yeah that's what i meant, they didnt hear the start (introduction)

  • How naive humanity was back then...

  • Lol its so funny how they announce that the planet is in a potential extraterrestrial attack and then just switch to relaxing music XD...Most epic prank ever!

  • I thought I would try to put myself in the shoes of someone turning the radio on and skipped to random spot in the middle (24:50). Pretty scary.

  • got chills when the heat-ray attacked the people and when people started screaming, that sonofabitch knows how to prank a whole nation for holoween, cheers Mr. Orson Wells

  • the 360p really makes this video unwatchable.

  • The beginning wasn't broadcasted. There was something wrong and it just didn't broadcast

  • got this on record.

  • The world is in desperate need of another Orson Welles

  • he trolled to whole nation. what a legend.

  • If this radio broadcast proved one thing it's how gullible and stupid some people are. The only way anybody could have thought this was real was if they only listened to the middle of the broadcast and even then they should have caught a clue. It was stated several times or so that it was War of the Worlds by Orson Wells. Don't people listen?

  • Should've switched over to NBC to confirm.

  • you all know that this was not supposed to be a joke right???

  • How can it be trolling when this was intended to be a radio drama?

  • @MidBoss17

Because 30 million people panicked and went batshit crazy.

  • everyone shut the fuck up about trolling its so geeky nerd like!

  • @zogrush one might say... *puts on sunglasses*

    you got trolled...

  • @PrincipalAgents "puts on a boxing glove and beats the fuck out of you!"

    and says trolololol

  • it wasn't not aliens it was Osama Bin Laden!!!!!

    DUN DUN DUUUNNNN!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!

  • my father listened to this when he was 12... im proud of this

  • Orson Welles- The man who trolled the whole world

  • trolling. 1938 style;

  • pranksters never looked so good :)

  • We need something like this to jolt peoples mind's into independence again.

  • Pretty convincing! I can see how someone in that era might believe it if they tuned in randomly somewhere shortly after the beginning. But after about 20 minutes or so it gets a bit too outrageous.

  • i experienced a similar comedy radio theatre , reporting from the stock market that all stocks had fallen to rock bottom. it was funny how many was panic & sold all their papers.but the comedy guys & the radio boss was criticized.a true original genius Orson Welles.

  • Orson Welles, the original Troll.

  • @UniqueMemoir he was brilliant.

  • @Kisame99 to be quite honest not many people believed it... Sure the newspaper say a lot of suicide and people panicked, but its all false, they only said that to blame their competitor ( the radio )

  • @Kisame99 Or seen, even :)

  • @Kisame99 In the beginning he said it was based off the book.

  • @Kisame99 *SEEN

  • ORSON WELLES , A MAN WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME.

  • Love that line about the white flag of truce. 'They're showing the white flag of truce. Those creatures know what that met.' Then the creatures start killing everybody. Maybe we didn't understand them. Maybe the white flag to the them met let killing start.

  • I LOVE THIS RADIO BROADCAST, ITS CLASSIC AND INCREDIBLE. I AM A HUGE FAN OF ORSON WELLES AND OLD TIME RADIO SHOWS, THEY WERE TERRIFIC. ORSON WELLES HAD THE COOLEST VOICE AND WAS WAY AHEAD OF HIS TIME. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS, ADDED IT TO MY FAVORITES.

  • Damn... and they did all this in the freakin bathroom. Lmfao

  • Reportedly, most listeners tuned in later (missing the intro), because they were listening to Charlie McCarthy, which is why they mistook it for an actual news broadcast.

  • Orson Wells delivers such a straightface deliver that you can see why people back then totally bought into the hysteria.

  • Olsen rolls America

    Its SUPER effective!

  • Thumbs up if u watched this at school

  • Just goes to show How a well planned idea carefully handle can Create Mass Panic all created at a Radio Station Stage.Saw the Tom Cruise War ot the Worlds Movie HATED IT,Seen the 1953 Movie fucking Great for 1953 era movie.

  • What made this broadcast provoke a panic was the fact that the Czech Crisis had happened one month earlier, and the young medium of radio had begun the practice of interrupting regular programming with bulletins and breaking news, so Americans for the most part had become used to the practice. Also, the broadcast used time compression where events that transpired over a period of many hours were heard within a period of roughly 30 minutes.

  • FUCKING BRILLIANT 63 years on

  • AWESOME

  • this is cool cant they do this nex halloween 2011 it wont scary people because that was the 30s and people didnt no bettr

  • this is actually very scary

  • America was Orsen Roll'd!

  • When the pilot's transmission cuts out at 33:08 ...gives me chills.

  • thumbs up if your listening to this on Halloween of 2011

  • dude we had to listen to this in class and this kid was really scard and he was freaking out.it was cool and a littel funny

  • I listen to this every year on halloween. I had a friend, cynical and jaded from horror movies, who listened to this play on the edge of his seat. This is always a very powerful show the first time you hear it. The actors who played the various roles did a fantastic job, and still stands up to this day. Bravo my friends, bravo.

  • Love hearing this every year on this night.

  • Listening to this tonight as we do every year. Iconic and little did Welles know what an amazing social experiment would be!

  • lol they said that over 50 were found dead because they thought the broadcast was real

  • My fav. thanks for posting all in one.

  • I can't believe that it's been 73 years ago today exactly. It aired on Sunday, October 30th, 1938. The night before Holloween to give kids an early scare for Holloween. Little did Orson Wells knew that people thought that this was real. That's why at the end of the broadcast, Orson Wells made that statment of Holloween.

  • The first part of the broadcast might be the best known, but the monologue at the end is quite beautiful.

''To write I must live and to live I must eat.''

    Geat writing and great delivery.

  • the 3 people who disliked also thought it was real.

  • Happy 73rd anniversary!

  • Orson Welles was far far ahead of his time with this radio Broadcast. Mr. Welles is AWESOME!!!!

  • Still gives me the chills every time I listen!

  • And you've noticed that the statement from the FDR-sounding "Secretary of the Interior" didn't really SAY anything...some things never change...

  • I remember my Mom and Aunt telling me about this broadcast. No TV's then, everyone listened to the radio. Those that didn't hear the beginning of this broadcast, were clearly scared.

  • The reason that most people believed that we were being invaded was that they didn't hear the begining of the broadcast and didn't know that it was fake and not a real invaision. So, most people thought that we were being attacked by aliens from Mars.

  • he never came back on the air wtf?

  • thanks for posting this wonderful broadcast of war of the worlds,

can anybody out there tell me the name of the musical tune that begins

at the very start of this broadcast? they play this complete song on the loudspeakers at the grocery store i work at, and everyone is asking what is that beautiful song thats playing, nobody knows the name of it, if you someone out there can help us, i would greatly appreciate it, thanks ever so much, from letseeitplease channel

  • @letseeitplease they also play that same song at the very end of the broadcast while the announcer is talking, thats the song im trying to find out the name of , thanks if you can help with the song title,

  • @letseeitplease it's not a specific song name, it's just a piece performed my Ramon Rocello and his Electro Phonic Orchestra.

  • @letseeitplease The music is Tchaicovsky's Piano Concerto #1 in B-flat Minor

  • @fhg1738 thank you i really appreicate it, this song is played on the loudspeaker in the grocery store i work at and everyone is wanting to know the name of it, thanks for your help, and happy halloweeen to you,

  • Orson Welles: The Father of the Modern Troll.

  • thats some good stuff... he was the man...

  • omg!!! aliens are really taking over!!

  • Welles was the man.

  • I've heard Orson Welles had a way with words, but causing mass panic over just reading a book?

That, my friends, is one influential voice.

  • @TheJboy88

actualy, the mass of the public showed no reaction at all, just bout 2% of the peoplz and that was mostly caused cause they didnt here the beginning of the show. The effects in 1949 when they did the same broadcast in Ecuador were worse though, same amount of peoplz went into a panic but when they found out it was just a broadcast they got pissed off and trashed the radio station. Police however couldnt get in time to the radiostation so 7 people died and 15 got injured.

  • @TheJboy88

    * Police btw was so late cause they were on their way to the scene were the alien invasion was suppose to take place (true story, go figure ;))

  • @TheJboy88 it didn't cause mass panic, that is a complete myth lol.

  • The best Troll in human history :D

  • Can't you tards just enjoy the show, you're like the three stooges complaining about something neither of you know anything about. Listen to the broadcast and shut up!

  • This broadcast was a psycological test. To see how citizens would react in a similar situation

  • Fun Fact: When this was first broadcast it caused mass hysteria as people thought they really were getting invaded.Funny thing was that 2 years later they were getting invaded.

  • @john3000931 The US was never invaded or was it attempted... just attacked. You are mistaken.

  • @Emeianoite I'M talking about Britain

  • The 2 people who disliked crapped their pants when they heard this

  • Wow, even back then they had trolls. Thanks Orson Welles :D

  • @bubbagump282 Umm... This is so much better than trolloing. ALL TROLLERS wished they done this!

  • @bubbagump282 You mean Thanks William Randolph Hearst.

Very few people were actually confused by this audio drama, the real story was the sesnationalism that Hearst treated it with in order to sell the concept that radio was a poor medium compared to newspapers.

  • I love this broadcast

  • this is so coooll.... i know if i was alive then il would have belived every word

  • this was a test to see if society would believe a catastrophic event was unfolding just based on a media broadcast. it was a terror simulation on radio. decades later we got a mass terror simulation on television in 2001. that hoax lives on until this day unfortunately. it is probably unsettling for most people to realize they have based all of their beliefs on analog or digital media. and that is why these operations work.

  • @LifePsyop Is there no corner of Youtube that isn't safe from idiots with conspiracy theories? You know paranoia and delusions are symptomatic of schizophrenia don't you?

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse Thanks, I feel the same way. Lots of idiots on youtube who post mindless, dismissive comments and ad hominem insults.

  • @LifePsyop Oh I see what you just did there. Someone deserves a gold star for cleverness. But do tell us, if 9/11 was some sort of hoax, or "simulation" as you say, who was REALLY behind it? I'm fairly certain I know what your answer already, but let's just see if I'm right

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse Someone deserves a gold star for being a douchebag. How the hell should I know who was behind the 9/11 psychological operation? The military and media were undeniably involved. Beyond that, I don't know. Though, total compartmentalization I'm sure. Who do you think was behind it? Arabs?

  • @LifePsyop You conspiracy people always have an answer as to who is behind everything. And why is it so hard for you people to believe that Islamic terrorists were behind 9/11?

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse The truly ironic thing is that people like you are the worst conspiracy theorists of them all. You believe a bunch of evil bogeymen in faraway lands plotted to kill all of us. So utterly childish and ridiculous... yet you feel safe espousing such rubbish because the people on TV said so.

  • @LifePsyop Then tell me where you get your "facts" from. Tell me where you came to this conclusion about hoaxes and nationwide psychological experiments

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse These are conclusions based off of years of cumulative research into media fakery. It is not from 'sources' or 'insiders' or anything silly like that. Just plain old logic and observation of the ludicrous scenarios and situations the military/media tries to play off as reality. Visit cluesforumDOTinfo if you are interested.

  • @LifePsyop Uh huh...? I'm not saying the media isn't manipulative and full of shit at times (look at Fox "News," after all). I'm just saying all the conspiracy theories around 9/11 are nonsense

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse The official conspiracy theory is the most nonsense. You side with it because you are probably suffering some delusion that authoritative people are here to bring you the truth. No offense, but you kind of give away your ignorance with that FOX comment. All major media networks are in the hands of a very small group of corporations and they all push the same version of events at the same time. This is a major red flag. But people are not thinking anymore.

  • @LifePsyop Of course "authoritative" people, as you put it, don't necessarily care about the truth. But neither do the people feeding you information. Or, I'm sorry, your "research" sources. And I'm ignorant because I can see that Fox News is the public relations department of the Republican party? And that everything they say is bullshit? Sure other news media may skew things a bit, but Fox News isn't even news

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse Well you really need to keep asking questions if you think there is any significant difference between major media networks. I don't have any "people" giving me news. Having nebulous sources of media from strangers is a very bad way to get information.

  • @LifePsyop I'm not exactly disagreeing with you about news media. Though Fox News is the absolute worst, and there is no question about that. But I don't really disagree with you about news media, my disagreement was about 9/11

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse Fine. But just remember where you got most (or all) of your information about 9/11.

  • @LifePsyop I think something that big would be hard to cover up or mislead . But hey, Karl Rove, Dick Cheney? If such a thing were possible, I wouldn't put it past them at least trying to do it

  • @RevJoshsFunhouse Who would be in a position to "uncover" it ? And of those who are, how many do you think would be willing to risk their job to make a public complaint about it? And if they did, what media outlet would run it? If any of this fell under a classified military drill, they would be risking serious legal action taken against them, as well. Contrary to popular belief, I think things are very easy to keep covered up. Businesses and military do it constantly.

  • @LifePsyop longest youtube comment descusion eva =3

  • More like trolling, the radio broadcast

  • i was watching ancient aliens and they spoke about orson welles and how unprepared we were when aliens landed on earth... makes you wonder if back then people were scared straight after hearing this, how would we act if they're really are aliens and land on earth present time.
