All automated, if you help build it you get priority riding it. If you don't help build it then you have to wait in a long line; or build your own anyways. This idea is good but....the only jobs that I can think for us are filmmaking, architecture (design), artists, singing, teaching, playing, having sex, comedy stand up, acting, writing, research, sex, and maintenance. My concern is: if all we need is to effectively access the natural energy around to be rid of the monetary system, how will the means by which this energy will be harnessed be established? Also, they're talking about becoming one with nature. About harvesting natural resources to create a better life-- however, they're also pushing technology forward, and urging the development of it. How technology will basically take over our jobs. Well, what happens when that technology is damaged, or wears out? How will we dispose of it properly? All automated, if you help build it you get priority riding it. If you don't help build it then you have to wait in a long line; or build your own anyways. That solution took me about 30 seconds to come up with. What would happen if a large group of well educated people spent a few months coming up with solutions? Right now those people are flipping burgers; they could be doing something more productive but hey, no one will pay them to and they HAVE TO MAKE MONEY somehow.

We may still have crimes based off of compulsion and passion. This political practice may remove crimes of profit. So this leads to one question what would we do about psychopathy, derangement, metal disabilities and deviation of the culture.
You may still need some police force to keep social enforcement so we can keep our social contracts with one another. We may have a lot lot lot less laws but we still need something to enforce social contracts such as not to murder. Nice idea however.

I support the use of this technology for the Venus Project. Should this technology ever be used to try and salvage the monetary system I fear the consequences. For the sheer number of occupations eliminated by this technology will only quicken the imbalance of population vs. available occupations. This idea is good but....the only jobs that I can think for us are filmmaking, architecture (design), artists, singing, teaching, playing, having sex, comedy stand up, acting, writing, research, sex, and maintenance. Again: Bullies are insecure and they beat on people, same with small cops, and so-on. they have some insecurities due to past experiences.
Rapists however, have another issue that stems from much more than a struggle for control or power: how about LUST? or addiction to pornography just isn't cutting it any more. they want something more real?

There is not conclusive link between lust and rape. If you know anything about this subject, social psychology (lindesmith et. al. 2004, smith & mackie 2002) shows us that rape in a social sense and psychological sense is a physical manifestation of the need for power and control by both sexes.
Bullies, again use violence as a means of control over others generally out of the need to gain control of violence they cannot control in their own life. (see. Fletcher 2007, Gray, 2001 to begin with).

With regard to the video. I think the whole concept is fascinating. My concern is: if all we need is to effectively access the natural energy around to be rid of the monetary system, how will the means by which this energy will be harnessed be established? In a monetary system like we have, who will fund the project? How are these lofty goals to be initiated?

we'd still need a way to get things done, even with all this technology we need a way to organise people to build the solar arrays or the battery powered cars or whatever other fanciful projects they talked about here. fact is people wont just show up and work without incentive and "scarcity" is a bloody good incentive ie if you dont work you dont eat. sorry for being realistic, but just having the technology alone dosent do shit there needs to be a mechanism to reward endeavour and effort

I understand the realism, however, how do we know this? It's never been done before. Just to play devil's advocate, of course, there will still be hundreds of thousands of worthless, lazy people feeding off of the success of others, but do we not have that right now? So many people are undeserving of financial support and they get it anyway.

The correct saying is "For the LOVE of money is the root of all evil." It is a direct quote from 1 Timothy 6:10 (KJV), and is a reference to avarice (greed/covetousness). There is no SCIENCE to back up the theory that money in and of itself is evil, only conjecture. Money is only a means of exchange for goods and/or services. Nothing evil there.

That combatant was faith based so its basis is in question. Nevertheless If people don't have to fight to survive, they won't fight. It is that simple. If you raise any mammal from the time it is conceived, in an environment where it has access to ALL of life's necessities without having to engage with another in competition over a scarce resource they will be at peace and no nothing of fighting.

We can not change those who are greedy, they must do that for themselves. However, we CAN be more aware of them and their methods, thus stopping the problems they create before they become disasters. This movie makes a lot of assumptions and blind speculation about the motives of humans and the "motives" of modern society, and none more than this part which is just speculation on top of speculation.
I also don't quite understand how your "resource-based economy" is different from communism except that people do menial tasks only 1 hour a day.

What about crimes of passion or child laws? They aren't linked to a monetary system, how do we deal with that without at least some laws in place? I prefer the 'voluntary simplicity' approach...the natural environment is more nourishing to our souls than a man-made hi-tech environment.
I would rather live in a village on a mountainside...herding goats...making beer...playing the fiddle...growing crops...than live in the Asimovian 'venus project'. Sounds like folks would end up practically useless, and totally vulnerable to systems failure. Oops no electric today. So we freeze. Rather chop firewood and listen to the birds.

Not all work is labour for someone else. And not all crime is based on money. Much crime is based on, say, anger? Hate? Even giving people a lot more than you imagine does not stop people biting off more than they can chew. There still need to be some laws and some means of enforcing them.

why would someone study for seven years to be a doctor or study for 5 years to be an engineer to improve technology?

Geothermal currently requires fossil fuels to implement. To dig the wells, a diesel burning boring rig is needed to dig the wells, which are over 400 feet deep. These take quite a bit of energy to implement, but they are efficient.
As for the Mag-lev...4000mph? Prove it. For one, Mag-lev requires ELECTRO magnets, not just a normal magnet. And what about the infrastructure needed to run a Mag-lev through say...the ocean?!?! Seems like that would take quite a bit of energy as well...
