could you elaborate on the way warCASTERS (like in hordes) use the damage bars, because on the sample cards they have little white dots, then a few shaded dots mixed in, do those mean anything?

The boxes are their life points, and every grey box marks every 5 points on their life bar, in order to give you a little bit of help when marking the cards.
