If 5=5 then it would be impossible for your other equations to stand and thus making this riddle wrong from the very beginning.

The principles of equations still stand though since you use the = symbol and thus the only possible answer is 1 because 1=5 then 5=1.

Your very first equation (1=5) also rules out the possibility of the 3125 because if 5=3125 and 5=1 then 1=3125 which is obviously wrong(based on what your riddle states).

So the ONLY possible answer that makes this riddle stand is 1.

Well no. In math, you need to set restrictions on what you are dealing with. Are your elements in a field? A ring? A permutation? A group? etc... You didn't specify any of those backgrounds so all answers are acceptable. Actually, in the group Z_4, the element 5 is the identity of Z_4 which is 1. So in Z_4, [5] = [1]. Of course, when you are dealing with the integer ring Z, then 5=/=1. 5 must only be 5 in Z.

I think the only thing that could cause this puzzle to make sense is if the notational rules changed where a constant 'i' on the left side of the equation implied x^i for i=1, ..., 5. and x = 5. this is because stating 1 = 5 implies that a rule has changed somewhere so it is not standard notation.
