@Ajacques8000 Wow. The 351 is better than 60% of all chevy engines at the time. The pantera with a 351 would be faster than a mustang gt with a 390. Becuse of the design of the car.
@Ajacques8000 Wow, what shit for brains. Please, put the bong down and go comment on a masturbation video somewhere. More in line with your personal experience.
@CheeseSteakJim ~ Had a 351W in a 1976 Ford Grand Torino and it just wouldn't go at all. Came back from Vietnam in Nov '70, bought a 383/335 4-speed Plymouth Roadrunner and ended up racing a bunch of '71 351C Ford Mustangs that were really strong. Back "in the day" the formula for making HP was simple: cubes (x) carbs!! Nowdays it's fuel injection, superchargers, SOHC's, DOHC's and not alot of cubes.
The 351 Cleveland motor had monster intake & exhaust valves and was made by Ford, where else, but Cleveland, Ohio. It's counterpart was the 351W motor which was made in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The 351W was basically used as a truck motor by Ford. It's intake & exhaust values were much smaller.
@MrRonnieG Only the 4V Clevelands had huge valves... Clevelands were better known for their massive ports designed for high revving horsepower, and their impressively strong main journals. The Windsor was used in cars well before it was ever used in trucks... car use began in 1969, truck use began in the 1970's. Ironically, the 351W was the only Windsor that was forged solely at the Windsor, Ontario plant... the others (260/289/302) were mostly forged in Cleveland.
I don't know what this Pantera has for power but the one that I TRIED to buy, back in 1974, had a 351 Cleveland Ford motor with a Holly 4-barrel. The Long Beach, Ca. dealer wanted $9,400.00 off the lot. I was driving a '72 240Z at the time and had a '68 390/4-speed Mustang fastback as a 2nd car. With both in trade plus my savings (I was 27) I just couldn't quite swing it. The following year I bought a brand new '75 Corvette for $8,300.00 off the lot but, honestly, it wasn't a Pantera.
OK trivia... Back in the day, they both had FORD engines... Pantera's were FORD powered with a German gearing and body desigend by Detomaso [Italy]. Truly an international star of its time. Same as Cobra, the A/C was a British design with big FORD muscle... Love them both, personal favorites!
@creforce Errr no. There are alot of cars faster 0 - 60 than that. I think the buggati ss does it in under 2.5 seconds and the cobra is around 3.4 - 4. Basically there are loads or european super cars that are faster.
grandpa vs grandma, it looked like the pantera was wining at the end. hard to tell they were goin to fast. if you look at it in slowmo they actually look like they are goin faster..
WOW 2 beautiful cars, before you post a comment that you can race faster or this car is faster then that just ask yourself "CAN I EVEN AFFORD ONE OF THESE CARS"
@the70stang Yeah a crappy one, I know cars, and have built many, you dont get much for 40K trust me. Try more in the 100k range. Especially the COBRA. And that Pantera sweet ass.
Pretty cars indeed. Yeah, the Cobra might be quicker in acceleration, but not around the twisties/racetrack. To see & hear a Pantera Grp4 with quad webers and 180 degree exhaust system...go to;- Pantera Grp4.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry modern fuels, use 1:100 two stroke oil / mix as regualar driving fuel that keeps the old carb-gaskets, fuel-pumps (and metal surfaces that come in contact with the modern fuel) of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions.
Most Porsche 911 vintage owners in Germany do so :)
U asked for it with such a dumb nickname bro, and BTW am not gay, am a ladies man with a massive "johnson" and a set of well rounded cahones to go with it.
I didn't ask for anything from you, but if I did it would be to please shut ur hole. You had to state your not gay? I guess you get tired of explaining. The only thing massive here is the size of a tool you are
Wow just read all the comments on this thread SaleenXXX got PWND hardcore!! Started running his mouth about something he knows nothing about and somebody who actually owns a Pantera shuts him down. I think he is still hurting from the beating. The Pantera was powered by Ford but built by De Tomaso. Its a sweet car, I think maybe in a few more years, I might be able to save up enough to buy one thats in "less than perfect" condition.
i love panteras. my grandfather has one. It came with a 351C and then he bored it out, the guys crazy haha now in a few weeks hes putting a 460 big block that has been bored out to 557 in it.
The new V-8 was mated to a ZF fully synchronized 5-speed transaxle with limited slip, and rated at 310 horsepower
AND IMPORTED AND SOLD TO LINCOLN DEALERS
The Pantera was BUILT and IMPORTED from ITALY designed by TOM TIJARDA and was NOT a FORD.
