"some say"? Who says? Where did you read, or hear that? I have never heard that about Poe before reading what you wrote... "some say" is something someone says when they want to give credibility to a rumor they are starting themselves. "some say" , "I heard", "Someone told me" , "I read somewhere"... Never make an acusation or an inturpitation beginning with these words if you dont have proof to back it up, it can come back to haunt you... Instead say, "I believe", I would guess"...
this poem is lovely........... until i saw that annabelle is alive on the last part.. hey, how could that be? the man should stay as lonely until the last part! and annabelle should bot be alive, that is not possible
She isn't alive in the end. It is apparent she dies, then the poem goes back and explores the idea of her spirit living on. Although she is gone physcially, the poet explores how spiritually she is very present with the man but in a very different way. You shouldn't take such a symbolic poem so literally.

In my oppinion this poem is depressing. Yes, they have true love, yes, the angels, who are supposed to be perfect are jealous of them. But, when the winds came and chilled her to death, her noble kinsmen ( high status family members ) to take her and put her into a mausoleum.
The story ends with him saying that their love is eternal and he is constantly reminded of her. But at night he comes to her tomb. Hes depressed and might commit suicide.
and that does not defend the notion that this poem is sweet. it is sweet in such a way that their love is strong and mighty, and whatever test is made, they will always have this love for one another. and when you said, "Hes depressed and MIGHT commit suicide." it's not included in the poem. therefore, it is still sweet. and because the poem is depressing does'nt mean it's not sweet. being edgar so depressed of what happened to his love is what makes it SWEET!!

Umm. I think I was talking about his depression, how people who have it often attempt suicides. You can clearly see that he can't get over her because he visits her sepulcher every night.
Also if you study up on Edgar Allan Poe two of his loved ones died. I think one was his sister and another was a girlfriend.
I'm sure you are right. The only reason I even know about his mother and his cousin/wife is because of a poetry class where we talked very little about his life in order to better understand his style.
