Aylesbury is a much better town today, it has a wonderful multi-ethnic, multi-faith diverse community, and it is a beautiful melting pot of different cultures. And there is practically zero crime. Its just a wonderful place to live where everybody is happy and looks out for one another. Now thats sarcasm!
@Tradescape It's the same thing all other Europe and large parts of North America.
Do we have to stand this for an infinite amount of time ? I wish my children will know something better, because at 43, I'm afraid it's too late for me. Greetings from France.
Fascinating - taken just before the architectural travesty of the Friars Square and County Offices developments which took out Silver Street and other buildings. Town planners have much to answer for...it's improving nowadays though, I guess...
@ariadnaayles lol ur english is bad yet ur writing english. if ur eng was so bad we wudnt make out a word u wer sayin and u probs wudnt even be able to write english bt since u can ur eng is good XD
I'm happy to see that this footage has been well received. I found it so interesting when I first saw it that I thought other people would like to see it too. I haven't seen much in the way of colour footage from that long ago so this film is a real gem. Keep the comments coming!
brings back memories! i was 14 then coming up to 15. it was a nice town then you could go home safely with out any one trying to mug you.used to have a lot of fun with my old mate dave slade .then when i was old enough to drink used to drink in the prince of wales and the star. happy days
It really makes one realise what a dump Aylesbury has become. I will never understand why they replaced all those lovely old buildings with characterless concrete monstrosities.
I have lived in Aylesbury all my life and was born the year this was filmed, it is a shame that there aren't more people on the council that care about where they work as they obviously don't live here. Would love to see more footage if there is any around
I was born here in 61... I have great memories of Aylesbury back then, and I'm awe struck by this bit of color footage... just fantastic... so is there any more footage around?
This was fantastic, shame there wasn't more. This was a year after my sister was born and 10 years before I was. What a beautiful town. Not any more......
Brilliant viewing thanks for posting. I moved to Aylesbury in 1992 and it was a different nice place then, but I wish I lived here back then. Its just a CHAV ridden shit hole now, so sad!
geez, damn right it looked better in those days. why they have to bulldoze so much of the traditional stuff?? some of these people at the council deserve to have thier eyes poked out
you could park in market sq, just imagine what that would be like now

Fantastic record of the time, particularly if you experienced those days first hand, as I did.
If it was possible to remove the time code, even better :-)

I was born in Aylesbury in 1845 and boy has it changed , They all use hoverboards now, I remember the courthouse was stuck by lightning in 1985.
I got out of that dump and moved to Bedgrove in 1989.

I moved to Ayleasbury in 1979. And left in 1998.
It's changed so much...I could never go back there.
But these images remind me of the place that I knew, the place that is now...I don't want to know!
PS, I saw the group 'Queen' at Friars...what a night.
My children were born in the centre of Aylesbury-
All gone!
