  • im from cuenca, and i dont like religion, regionalism, nationalism, xenophobia towards pervians and colombians, police corruption, brands clothes (so damn expensive) electronics so expensive also, lack of animal rights , and pee on the streets :(

  • Thanks for the information. I can't believe that some people have been dogging you for telling the truth. Things like public urination are things that most women (and quite a few men) need to know about before coming to another country.

  • I live in Cuenca, and i can assimilate to most of your concerns in this video, nonetheless i believe it is crucial to take into consideration the fact that some of the things that you have mentioned are part of the culture it self. Cultures are meant to be embraced. Yes there are a lot of differences between the lifestyle in the US and Cuenca, but that is what makes each place its own. That is just my opinion. Most of your videos are quite informative for expants. Great Job.

  • Nice videos and very informative. I am Ecuadorian and my wife is from R.I. I haven't show her Ecuador yet and I hope this year we will go if things gets better here in USA. It scares her a little bit to move to another country but thanks to your videos she is getting more interested.

Thanks again for taking the time to post the videos. We appreciate it.

  • Staring??...that happens in every small town, that includes USA when people see people from other cultures.

  • One of the biggest problem moving to a new country is culture shock. Learning the good things and the bad things helps mitigate culture shock. There is no way to avoid culture shock, we can only be prepared for it and accept it. Getting the truth from Expats living there helps.

    Thanks!

  • Ecuador isn't perfect but neither is the U$A. We visited there a year ago and loved it. We saw Quito, Salinas, Guayaquil, and Cuenca. The people are really great. We never noticed any staring at all. Cuence is loaded with gringos, Canadians, Europeans. The people were all very nice to us. The weather in the highlands is chilly in the morning but warms up quickly as the air is thin. Fruits are cheap and luscious with all kinds that you never see here in St Louis. Take tours and see it all.

  • @deenie1219

The staring is more prevalent once you get out of the city center where all the tourists go.

  • what is an expat by the way?ive read your blog(i like your blog by the way.ive lived down in guayaquil for about threes years so i know where your coming from)and that word pops up alot.

  • Nice family.

  • Hello guys, I have been following your postings for a while now and have enjoyed very much your videos. I am from Ecuador and married

to a New Yorker, my wife have already been in Ecuador 4 times and

she likes the highlands much more than the cost but she've never been in Cuenca. Thanks to your videos she has an idea of what to expect if we move to Cuenca. We are considering moving by the end of 2012

if we get to sell our house here in Cincinnati. Thank you again.

  • @linlou99 We're glad you are enjoying the videos!! We recommend that you check out our blog where we have a lot more information posted about living in Cuenca Ecuador. If your wife has any questions about Cuenca she can email me (Angie) anytime. Here is the blog address:

    LivingFrugalandHappy.blogspot.com Take care!

  • @HMFamilyLife Thanks for you reply, we will.

  • i mean what do you expect them to do??not stare, iam from Ecuador and when i moved to the United States, we went to this restaurant and everybody was staring at us, i guess people are just curious to see different types of people.

  • I'm married to an Ecuadorian, and we are probably going to end up there, but as far as cheap, it's cheaper to retire in central Pennsylvania. Homes are cheaper, no tax on retirement, etc. You also may not have experienced the political instability yet so beware. Plus, the government sent agents to my inlaws in Quito and my wife's aunt to "inspect" their homes to make sure they didn't have more space than needed. That is crazy.

  • interesting, those annoying things wich you guys mentioned it used to bother me too, special electronics, so much expensive for us!! .

  • Thanks for the idea and making the video. If those little things are the only ones bothering you, it confirms that life in Ecuador is great. I did travel 10 weeks in Ecuador and made very friendly relationships with very nice people. The Internet is generally usable for my needs as a software engineer. Personally, seeing some people in extreme poverty, not being decently paid for their work is what bothers me the most. Nevertheless I am soon moving to Ecuador for good.

  • Thank you... finally an honest editorial of the city.....

  • @creatorsdream We can get on Hulu with a proxy server ours is free and I can also watch US tv on the internet with it.

  • I live in Cuenca, and my internet speeds and quality are as good as I had in Atlanta, GA with comcast. We operate 3 laptops streaming on-line videos at the same time with no problems, We have conversations on Skype, operated a blog, website, and have never been without internet. Sorry you have not enjoyed your stay.

  • @smclark59 What internet provider are you using?

  • @rthompsontrucking We use Etapa. They came out and fixed the major problem of it cutting off around 6pm. It still cuts out throughout the day for 5 minutes at a time. We're not in a big hurry to get a different provider. We've heard negative stories about all of them. Check out our blog and you'll get an ear full from someone else who lives here and uses CABLE TV. For now we'll see if the Internet stays ok...The Internet even cut out in the states once in awhile, it happens.

  • @smclark59 what internet service do you use?

  • Very informative. Thank you very much. I enjoy your videos.

  • Their annoyance was not missing technology, its paying for internet and having it not work. That should piss off anyone, not just "gringos".

  • That's an honest video.

    Gringos missing TECHNOLOGY, nothing new.

The pee thing, got to go, thanks for bringing that up, some one should start a campaign against peeing on walls.

There are plans to stop producing bad gasoline in Ecuador, that will generate less smoke on streets.

The staring part is like when gringos take pictures of indigenous people without permission. So you'r even.

When I feel cold in Cuenca, I compare to NY's winter, it helps.

You are good people. Welcome to Cuenca.
