@RaoSweetDreams that's an amateurs mistake, Silent Hill is not a purgatory at all. it's the old town affected by the god that lives there. it feeds on the darkness and inner fears of those that visit it. firstly the girl Alessa changed it with the times she was trapped in the hospital. then sexually repressed james and his visit to the historical society when he was there last.p head can only appear if you've seen the painting and have guilt inside
don't worry about the movie ph, we all make mistakes. besides the only one who is to blame for it is christoph gans anyway, and homecoming doesn't technically count as a sh game so forget about it
@Samotslayer I REALLY hope so, apart from the feel of the movie it didn't feel like silent hill. especially with the loose viewpoint in how the chars were changed around

@amirakitty From what is speculated, pyramid head is more the embodiment of James' conscience. That's why certain people (which are parodied in this video) had a problem with pyramid head appearing in something outside of Silent Hill 2.

With all the mystery in silent hill shouldn't we be open to possibilites. Maybe pyramid head isn't just a figment of james's imagination maybe it's also a punisher of people(in general of course) . The soldier from homecoming killed josh his brother and so pyramid head is just tormenting alex. (Just maybe) Yes james was the one who consciously created pyramid head but maybe pyramid head used james guilty conscience to punish him. Maybe pyramid head has done this with multiple people.
@SlamTheLabel so what i'm saying is maybe the times when pyramid head has been put in the series he was only there to cleanse the characters wrongs by tormenting. About the movie the director pretty much reimagined the whole story and characters (with certain elements kept such as the alley scene, the car crash, the blood stained walls, the cult, the fog, finding cheryl, etc.)but that doesn't mean it wasn't a good movie it's just that it's not true to the silent hill series.

You know I am the biggest fan of SH I personally know, and I actually LIKED Homecoming AND the movie. And I started way before all of that with SH2. Oh yay I'm oldschool. And I actually thought the Butcher was an interesting take on the origins of it all.

In other words, he's not a monster native to Silent Hill, but more a creation of James' just like Maria was. That's why some people were miffed when they saw him in the movie and Homecoming. A representation of James' guilty concience present in two settings where James is nowhere in sight. :o

Silent Hill Homecoming was a waste of a great story. The game was so bad. I tried playing it over a second time but I couldn't. It wasn't even a LITTLE scary.

The new developers don't know what they're doing, that's why not only Pyramid but the whole franchise is ruined.
What we know about Silent Hill: Shattered Memories so far doesn't sound so bad, but the problem is that the Climax Studios as well as Double Helix are phenomenal idiots.
They should've just left alone the series when Team Silent said they're fed up with it and just wait until they want to make a new one.

So much so in fact, that they decided to scrap the idea of having any orginality of their own and instead tryed to make a blunt rip-off of previous games, especially Silent Hill 2.
Ben "Yahtzee" Crowshaw said it best:
"If you compare Silent Hill's story telling to the general standard of the games industry it would look like Charles Dickens joining the forum of Invader Zim fan fiction."
But I (mostly) enjoyed the Silent Hill games, even Homecoming. And while it was cool to see PH I do feel like it was trying to attract fans of the series, and that they should have tried to make another monster for Alex. At least in that regard I feel like Origins was right. After all they could have just brought back PH too.
But I still love the games, but they cant compare to the first three. I guess thats what I'm trying to say
I feel that SH4 was the worst SH game just because of Henry. I mean if he had had some sort of character development in the game it would have been more enjoyable to me. Like if Henrys mother had abandoned him, so that he has something in common with Walter (In my opinion if might have added to the plot), or if he had some sort of break down and shown a little emotion during the second half of the game. He ruined the game for me. ^^;
Cool hair and nice pants arent enough to get me to like a character.
If I play SH4 again it's for the hauntings, and Walter (One of my favorite characters). SH4 had a lot of creepy stuff that I thought was great. Like the baby heads coming out of the wall! >D
I just find it ridiculous that Climax Studios stated, they believe that they earned the respect & acceptance of the Silent Hill fan base with Origins... :/
In your opinion, they are dead wrong. I dont think they're perfect and a lot of stuff in Origins isn't great, but some fans may really believe that they deserve respect.
It's a simple fact, that they do not have the acceptance of the majority of the Silent Hill fan base.
Of course you can't please everyone, but I think you're giving them too much credit.
What they did with Origins wasn't simply sub-par, it was a pretentious wannabe shamelessly ripping off previous games mechanics and plot devices hoping to reach their level.
What I'm saying is, that most people who don't find Homecoming & Origins are as deluded as not to see how pretentiously it tries to copy the first four and how far below their level they are.
Or they didn't play 1-4 altogether.
This is happening to many video game franchises as for example Resident Evil.
what's happening with SH isn't nearly as bad a whats happening to RE the newest game isn't even a horror game. And RE4 wasn't either (Allthough I do love 4) They've completely left out everything that made the RE games great.
Resident Evil never really had a particularly good story.
So while RE dropped deeper than SH, SH dropped from a lot higher than RE did.
You see what I mean?
The other difference is that while RE simply became an action game, SH put all its effort into immitating its previous installments and maintaining its glory, though it failed terribly.

---I'd rather do without another Silent Hill game than having this crap ruining the series. That includes the movie... (although that skin thing really was kinda cool... :S)
So the bottom line is: Either let someone with at least some competence and creativity make Silent Hill or just let it be.

I'm not saying RE4 was a bad game, I'm just saying its not a survival horror game. RE4 could have been a really scary game, but they just didn't go that way with it and that's kind of depressing. (And I do like RE4) The fact that it doesn't have to do with S.T.A.R.S has nothing to do with my complaints with the game. And I just used where the RE series is going to compare to the way the Silent Hill series is going.
It wasn't to diss RE4 but to lament where both series have gone in comparison.

Oh I did answer the question alright.
I never said The Room was bad.
I think it's just as awesome as the previous 3.
But that was still Team Silent.
Origins & Homecoming are good games, but terrible Silent Hill games.
Unless you're a hardcore Silent Hill fan you may not understand the huge difference.
Origins & Homecoming are just sad Silent Hill wannabes.
I recommend watching the Zero Punctuation reviews of both those games.
They'll explain all you need to know for now.

I wouldn't say that SH is ruined, just not up to the first three.
Take the RE series, they've completely turned away from the older games and turned it into an action game.
At least the Silent Hill games TRY to stay true to the original games.
It could be a lot worse.

Why, yes they do.
And that waaaay too hard.
So much so in fact, that they decided to scrap the idea of having any orginality of their own and instead tryed to make a blunt rip-off of previous games, especially Silent Hill 2.
Ben "Yahtzee" Crowshaw said it best:
"If you compare Silent Hill's story telling to the general standard of the games industry it would look like Charles Dickens joining the forum of Invader Zim fan fiction."
They simply cant hold up to that high standard.

I agree with you.
But I (mostly) enjoyed the Silent Hill games, even Homecoming. And while it was cool to see PH I do feel like it was trying to attract fans of the series, and that they should have tried to make another monster for Alex. At least in that regard I feel like Origins was right. After all they could have just brought back PH too.
But I still love the games, but they cant compare to the first three. I guess thats what I'm trying to say

Don't get me wrong, Origins & Homecoming were good games.
Just not good Silent Hill games.
And that "Butcher" thing wasn't any better than the "Bogeyman".
However Silent Hill 4 is a different story.
I think it's just as good as the first 3 dispite some annoying gameplay design choices.

I feel that SH4 was the worst SH game just because of Henry. I mean if he had had some sort of character development in the game it would have been more enjoyable to me. Like if Henrys mother had abandoned him, so that he has something in common with Walter (In my opinion if might have added to the plot), or if he had some sort of break down and shown a little emotion during the second half of the game. He ruined the game for me. ^^;

Cool hair and nice pants arent enough to get me to like a character.
If I play SH4 again it's for the hauntings, and Walter (One of my favorite characters). SH4 had a lot of creepy stuff that I thought was great. Like the baby heads coming out of the wall! >D

Yes, Walter is important character in this game.
Henry is just that normal dude. If they intented you to sympathize with him, they would've made his character more developed.
By the way, did you know there's sound material of conversations between Walter & Doctor Fitch in Homecoming that was cut out later?

In your opinion, they are dead wrong. I dont think they're perfect and a lot of stuff in Origins isn't great, but some fans may really believe that they deserve respect.

It has nothing to do with my opinion.
It's a simple fact, that they do not have the acceptance of the majority of the Silent Hill fan base.
Of course you can't please everyone, but I think you're giving them too much credit.
What they did with Origins wasn't simply sub-par, it was a pretentious wannabe shamelessly ripping off previous games mechanics and plot devices hoping to reach their level.

Or they didn't play 1-4 altogether.

what's happening with SH isn't nearly as bad a whats happening to RE the newest game isn't even a horror game. And RE4 wasn't either (Allthough I do love 4) They've completely left out everything that made the RE games great.

I wouldn't really call it worse.
Mainly because it's a lot different in a way.
Resident Evil never really had a particularly good story.
So while RE dropped deeper than SH, SH dropped from a lot higher than RE did.
You see what I mean?
The other difference is that while RE simply became an action game, SH put all its effort into immitating its previous installments and maintaining its glory, though it failed terribly.

Agaign I hae to disagree.
I'm also a big RE fan, though SH is better then RE in my opinion, I still think RE was great. So the new one is a let down for me.
And as for immitating the other SH games I dont think it's so much as immitating as trying not to stray too far from the other games examples.

All I'm saying is that RE simply changed gameplay and presentation.
That wouldn't be too hard to fix if they got their act together.
Silent Hill is dead inside now and Team Silent is apparently fed up with the series.
Now Silent Hill 4 strayed far from the formula in quite a lot of ways and look how great it was.
Also I guess nobody but Team Silent could have pulled that off...

I'm not saying RE4 was a bad game, I'm just saying its not a survival horror game. RE4 could have been a really scary game, but they just didn't go that way with it and that's kind of depressing. (And I do like RE4) The fact that it doesn't have to do with S.T.A.R.S has nothing to do with my complaints with the game. And I just used where the RE series is going to compare to the way the Silent Hill series is going.
It wasn't to diss RE4 but to lament where both series have gone in comparison.
