it was very impresive, but only wan one rallye, in san remo 1985, in my opinion peugeot had a better car, but the audi was very spectacular, (and harder to drive).....

@drchepa Quattro is very, very easy to drive. but the driver makes the difference. 1982 Audi lost with Quattro against the Opel Ascona 400 Rwd, the driver was walter röhrl.

Have sat alongside Harald Demuth during Kielder testing in a works S1 with 530 BHP, the way it goes between 4000rpm and 7500rpm is almost unbelievable and will stay with me forever as will the noise, an amazing car close to its design limits (very forward engine) sadly the end of Group B did the car a favour as it was becoming uncompetative but for pure aggression and anger this was THE car - awesome!

Car technology is exponentially improved, and along with it safety. We really could benefit from a resurrection of Group B. Slap another 1000cc on the displacements, leave the weights the same and give them the option of even wider tires and that would be far far better than anything else. Alas, it's a pipe dream.

@markandrach Don't forget also that group B cars ran on much more open stages than moden cars so it can be hard to compare the two. Would have been great to see what these would have evolved into without the modrern regulations.

@mupp33n many people say thar rally died when Group B was banned... I don't agree with that! We all can watch videos of the 90's with the stages full of people, having a great joy following their heroes and the new cars (Group A and WRC after that...). Rally died when many manufaturers like Subaru, Peugeot, Mitsubishi, Toyota (and others) decided to abandon rally! And then only Ford and Citroen remained in the fight for the title, but Citroen and Loeb were obviously better all this years..

When people stand on the racetrack or road, it's only a matter of time before something bad happens. They made two mistakes in my eyes. First allowing people to stand anywhere.... second, banning it for the first reason.

@pershio Man, the group b went to the no-sense... 500hp cars in tiny curly roads, two pilots died in 1986. Just a couple of examples: a Ferrari F430 Scuderia got 2.50kg/hp, the peugeot 205 t16 got 1.92Kg/hp; and a group b car can accelerate 0-100km/h in 2.5sec... on a non-asphalted road!!! this is insane! The problem is that they couldn't put security and technology together. This just had to end some day like the space race during the cold war: was great, but... who's paying for that?
