It makes sense if the creature was small but became bigger because the japanese where busy with the slusho stuff. It makes you hyped up as well and makes you grow bigger. Also the girl in the movie that became sick after she got bitten means that the parasites somehow are related to the shusho stuff. Maybe they made it themself under the sea and the japanese harvested it from them with their submarines. What I think was first that the beast escaped from the rig when the satelite crashed on it.

Then later on when it tried to escape it became larger because of the slusho and when it came into contact with water or with Oxygen{ I know insects and other animals become large because of alot of oxygen} it became so large that it could destroy cities.

The one huge flaw with the concept of cloverfield is that it is a sea creature which has limbs for moving on land instead of through water. If it came from the deep sea somewhere and its supposed to be from an ancient species that we haven`t discovered yet then that means it would be well evolved for life in water and not have walking limbs. It should have lungs for breathing the dissolved gasses in water, not lungs that take in gas directly like those of land animals.

actually it didnt, it was found in the atlantic sea by submarine drivers so they built an oil rig over it to study it, a satellite lost orbit and crashed into the monster, waking it up, since it was a baby it was scared and thought the humans would hurt him, so he started attacking and looking for his mother. but that last part are what i was thinking
