  • andrew is the charm of wham

  • I absolutely love the way British people talk. I think their little accent is so cool & sexy sounding. When I was a kid I asked my mama "why do they talk like that" and she said because "they are from a different part of the world" so i said "well, we're from a different part of the world, so how come we can't talk like them"? Mama said, "Lord help this boy"! LOL LOL Wham! was my shit back in the day, used ta ride around in da whip ta this song. Nothing like FREEDOM!

  • freedom in that sick planet and respect others....blue sky for tomorrow...

  • Excellent song and a really intrepid kind of video, gets me in the mood for travelling.

  • OMFG TrueBliss sang this song. Whoa! Nowhere near as good as Wham! obviously

  • One of my favorite Wham songs

  • Fascinating snapshot of a China just on the verge of opening up--1984.

  • Wow loved this song .For my english oral exam c.s.e.Remember those I talked about wham.I passed it !! Lovvvve george michael

  • formersoapfan8942,ill lik ur anus.

  • And there still isn't much freedom in China, 20+ years later....

  • This may very well be my all time favorite song. It's just has that beat that makes everything fabulous.

  • oh right thats why there are so many homophobic attacks... and why its illegal to be gay in some countries, and u can get disowned by ur family for being gay and hated by everyone? oh and for those who don't have a priviledged upbringing its a case of midnight renevous in the park where people get knifed. its not all glitz and glamour mate, gay people are discriminated against as much as u weren't u probs had it easy, my friend went to a gay hangout and got stabbed to death. twat.

  • Amazing sound & amazing video over 20 years ago

  • i just heard this sung on an old american top 40 show from 1985. this song peaked at #3.

  • Groovy. Where exactly are you from? Does it air on Saturday mornings at 6. Listening to Casey's Top 40 every Saturday morning is a MUST for me. I have to be up by 6 in order to hear it from start to finish. It sure brings back memories when I was a kid in the 80's, I had to hear every single song to see who would be at the top of the charts back then and getting to hear the old american top 40's from the vaults is great. We also Casey's Top 40 from the 70's on sunday nights

  • Makes me in a good mood, everytime! Love it.

  • So catchy!!!

  • recordando los 80s .

  • it sounds like an 80's wham tune!!!

  • Song makes me wanna get up on my feet and dance :)

  • makes me wanna go to China

  • hermoso tema para mi es la mejor cancion del grupo WHAM y uno de los mejores temas musicales de los 80s.George Michael uno de los mejores vocalista del mundo.Saludos desde Mexico, bye.

  • My favorite all time George Micheal song with or without Andrew.

  • Great tune. :-) Makes me smile.

  • Love this song. Even if you don't like Wham you can't argue this is a classic feel good song.

  • Lovely footage and lovely Chinese audience as well!

  • ha listen to fade away by oasis, its a copy

  • Popular song in Hongkong (summer of 1985).

  • they owned 1985, there music has no boundaries or borders.

  • this song was number 1 when i was born i just found out..lol..

  • i banged my first fat chick to this song

  • I remember watching this video when i was a teenager! I used to have a crush on the other guy in the band, Andrew Wrigley?

  • You made me chuckle. It was Ridgeley. Not like the gum. But, I liked him, too.

  • LOL! yeah I guess I had wrigley gum on the mind :0)

  • Great Song!....and i agree its about the beat and energy (JordanPAT)....and that was the 80's....

  • If anyone agrees to any lies about me they will be arrested plain and simple. sore losers.

  • love it baby

  • the unforgettable fire

  • Question: When a band like Wham! or any other english singing band plays in Japan or any other country of a different laungue, how do they understand the lyrics or enjoy the music and stuff ok?

  • Music is international....if it sounds nice who care if you can't understand the words...it's the beat and energy.

  • English is well-understood by a lot of countries and your ignorance is showing, this is China....

  • I love Wham and love George Michaels. I also love George Michaels and Elton John to do the Don't Let The Sun go Down on Me song. Will listen to it after this is over.

  • And CharlesNigro's impatience is showing, as NuDecade didn't say this was Japan, merely "in japan or any other country of a different language" ~.^

To answer the question, pretty much what JordanPAT said; music is international language. Ask any american fan of jrock who understands no japanese.

  • Also for people who really care about the lyrics, there's always translations. English is so common all over the world, translations of english songs were never too hard to get. And now we have the internet, which makes it really easy.

  • i was only 5 when this came out and my brother loved wham.

  • ah, high school and hearing this on the weekly "Rock Over London" radio countdown on wxrt. happy days.

  • If you like Wham you might like us! We are giving away free full length albums and free ringtones of our music for a limited time! Message me if interested!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG,, WHEN I WENT TO ASK TO SEE IF IT EVER CAME OUT ON CD,,,THE PEOPLE KEPT GETTING IT MIXED UP WITH THE OTHER FREEDOM SONG(the one with the models) THIS SONG JUST MADE YOU FEEL GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah, the other freedom song is called "Freedom90." it was sung by george michael (after the wham days) during the time he was turning gay.

  • He was ashamed of Wham when he did Faith, but then he was ashamed of Faith!

  • First visit by a western band-April '85.

  • hehe it's funny the way andrew doesn't even notice the camera and he walks into it lolz

  • Too bad this song has nothing to do with politics or China or any other ridiculous overture that Wham tried to tie here...this video was clearly an afterthough.

    Still love the song though.

  • Wham was the first pop group to play in China. They released Foreign Skies - Wham in China following their visit. It was a big deal back in 1985.

  • fade away sounds like this

  • Amen. This came out long before the Oasis song.

  • Oasis? Ajjjhhh!!

  • Hello from Greece. First question: Wham really visited china during their tour or sth else? Second question: Does any other west music group visited china? If yes who?

  • Yes, Wham! really visited China (i think this was in '84 or '85). I'm pretty sure other Western bands have visited, too.

  • yes wham did visit china in 1984 this is when this video was recorded. as china has become more open & democratic since this time plenty more western bands have played there. elton john was actualy the first in 1979 with the ray cooper percussionist tour.

  • Yes, they were the first "star" band band visited China. It was a major thing back then in Beijing.

  • maybe you mean north korea?

  • China in early 80's = south Korea NOW

  • true classic indeed

  • Have many bands played in China in recent years ?

  • Fredom is all what is about:)

  • buenos tiempos, me refiero a la musica

  • what a party song this is a true classic

  • this song makes me happy whenever I am sad although I don't like wham that much ^^

  • If you think China is comparable to the U.S., i dare you to go to Tiannamen Square and hold up an anti-government poster. You'll quickly see which freedoms you have in North America!

  • china has finally figured out what the us govt figured out a long time ago...you can take as many rights as you want as long as you give people more and more stuff to possess, keep them distracted with entertainment, and continually appeal to their patriotism...

  • They did this at like 21 or 22. The first Western band in China ! What an extrodionary life George Michael has lived !

  • the izaaacs went mal to this song, a true izaac song.

  • "we're musicians not politicians" has anyone told that to bob geldoff?

  • I seem to recall Bob Geldoff saying that he did what politicians only talk about

  • He's probably right,really.

  • muerte a los chinos salvajes con los animales bstias sadicos

  • Freedom!

  • he s wearin a QPR shirt when they play football!!!

  • All the hype abou the Olympics now. Wham pioneered this shit !!!

  • China in early 80's = North Korea NOW

  • George Michael iss well phitt :P:P

    :D:D

  • If this song had never been written, the Tiananmen Square massacre would have been even worse. Thank you George and other guy.

  • roflmao

  • the other guys name is Andrew Ridgely

  • for me the best song of wham,happy,glad,outcoming,vital...and the voice of george michael sounds like ever do it.

  • I was a teen in the 80's and we danced to this at school parties every year!

  • I Love Wham!!!!!!!!!

  • It's so cool , <3

  • When this vidoe came out in the 1980's... It was a big deal that they got to tour China. Quite remarkable, really.

  • oh...and great song too lol

  • watching this now and seeing the current situation in china....has anything really changed? Communism sux

  • Uh..YEAH. China has joined the modern world. Wow. Stick to topics you know something about. Give China a visit.

  • Wow "vetamur" shut the fuck up and stop defending communism.

  • You fool, the changes are far far beyond your imagination.

  • At 1:16, did he cuss us out?

  • who is it talkin before the song starts.. is it andrew or george??

  • yep its Andrew and George.

  • What starts at 4:32 shows what a great singer George Michael is!

  • the video is pretty powerful to a certain extent. China is so much different now as far as allowing artist into the country. wham some how paved the way. I am sure Wham didn't need to go there, but they did for love music. Thanks for the video!

  • Made me think of present circumstances and what we have learnt about China since the 80s watching it now - but guess you have to view it when it was made.

  • Is this the actual video?

  • yep! I am a HUGE Wha, GEorge MIchael fan, always have been....since I was about 11. i remember it being played on the video networks when video networks played actual music videos. lol

  • YES its the real video of it they jsut dont sing in the video like in last christmas.

  • I love the unintentionally hilarious, self absorbed, self important intro to this video. It practically encapsulates the entire attitude of the eighties. "We're a fruity pop band playing communist China; we're real trailblazers. We truly are the world." The only thing the Chinese were trying to figure out was the same thing us in the States were trying to figure out: "Are those dudes humping each other?"

  • Your opinion. My opinion is that it was one of China's first attempts to allow Western pop culture in. The same battle is now being fought in regards to the Beijing Olympics, but since Wham's appearance there, and the video's very human look at a people we were supposedly a pseudo-enemies with quite recently, I think was a great red carpet for China's transformation, which has only just begun.

    "You've gotta' have faith..."

  • are those dudes humping each other? GREAT LINE MAN

  • I'm glad somebody on here realizes I was being funny and not gaybashing or being a homophobe. People constantly take shit out of context on here. Irony and sarcasm just don't come across in print or online.

  • lol thats funny

  • lol thats funny

  • Very funny--and true!

  • the 80s pretty cool times mtv great tv shows great songs like this we where all young and foolish

  • Great to see the Wham to China on 80's year, the people, the building, the view, and.......

  • Yeah! The best Song of George Michael!

  • Can anyone from China tell me which locations these are taken from? I am very curious to know. I know one is the Great Wall, but what are the other areas?

  • I have legs like at 3:48.

  • So what if George Michael is gay? Go and find something more important to concern yourself with!

    Top pop song!

  • Its like who cares of rob halford of judas priest is gay, its like if thats reason not listen to george micheals music, then your friggen retard, im a metal fan and i will admit george michael is a wonderful singer with alot of great songs

  • Its like who cares of rob halford of judas priest is gay, its like if thats reason not listen to george micheals music, then your friggen retard, im a metal fan and i will admit george michael is a wonderful singer with alot of great songs

  • what a pity you are an uber bummer,

  • Comment removed

  • this is one of the best songs ever ! wham first band ever to play in china.. amazing band.

  • Oasis ripped off the melody of their B-Side hit "Listen Up", from this song.

  • actaully it was "fade away" and fade away is better

  • Yes....your right it was Fade Away. Sorry abour that one mate. I wouldn't neccesarily say one was better than the other. I think both are top songs, but great artists.

  • fair comment - dont worry i werent trying to cause any argumeant - just a correction.

    lol

  • Hey I remember dancing to this as a kid!!! The 80s was such a fun time!!!!

  • Enjoy to watch how China has been changed in the last 23years.

  • This is one of the songs I listen to on holiday. It has a very catchy tune! It gets me right into the holiday mood! Wham! are great!

  • Sidenote: Wham was the first 'western' world pop/rock band to play in China since they became communist in 1949.

  • What a hit! They don't make music like they used to. All the songs in the Wham album "Make it Big" are so great and so inspiring, I mean, for 80s music. Music back then had so many great tunes. I love thy 80s, those were the days, the days that I still miss to this day. Thank you Wham.

  • At least back in the 80's the music was mostly clean stuff to listen to even with the sexual innuendo. I had no idea what She-Bop was until I was nineteen, and this was twelve years after the song came out. When I was a little girl I didn't even understand some of the WHAM lyrics but I still thought George and Andrew were cool.

  • I love WHAM.

  • One of the best vids of the 80's i love this song!! Who cares if someone is gay or not..the music join different cultures and means peace, unfortonetly the politics divide the same cultures and people, the vid show it.."We all are brothers"

  • I like the Freedom '90 one by George Michael. I LOVE that version.

  • How do you like that "version"? It's a completely different song.

  • i luv wham! who cares if george is gay! he still roxz

  • yummy

  • Iconic. Wham roxs!

  • fontastic

  • i do not care if hes gay or not i have always loved this songs and loved the heck out of george micheal

  • Why would him being straight or gay affect your love for his music in the first place? Why would "not caring if he's gay or straight" be at all appropriate when judging his music?

  • Freedom! How ironic - up against that bloke at 5:35 no chance!

  • nr 1 in the uk

  • sirlordwhitman: Uh, since when did The Supremes release this song? It's a Wham! original IIRC.

  • A beautiful song, but I felt uneasy watching the poignant video.

The juxtaposition of the party faithful enjoying a concert while the proles live their preordained lives reminds me of how terrible things were in the '80s, before Tiananmen Square brought China's disregard for human freedoms to the attention of the free world. Today, a billion live as virtual slaves to the 300M+ party members and their families who enjoy the fruits of the successes attained by the toil of the enslaved.

  • Come back to help.

Dont murmur around there with ur irritating gurgling.

We dont need betrayer like u.

  • You speak the truth, why else would someone call you a "betrayer" for simply dissenting with the party line? It shows the fear that the party faithful and the elite have for free minded individuals. It shows their hypocrisy and foolishness. I salute you.

  • China has changed so much since this video came out.

  • Nearly every good upbeat song of the eighties has Pino on the base!

  • Wham lives forever ! I grew up with their music during my teen years in the mid 80's !

  • One of the best upbeat songs ever! (At least for the melody.

  • Wham lives forever ! I grew up with their music during my teen years in the mid 80's !

  • oops.. I meant the Supremes ..not the Miracles. geez

  • Wham lives forever ! I grew up with their music during my teen years in the mid 80's !

  • Alright.Has the Diana Ross & the Supremes EVER even written a song?

  • The best song Diana Ross and the Miracles never wrote.

  • Wham lives forever ! I grew up with their music during my teen years in the mid 80's !

  • Has Diana Ross EVER even written a song?
