  • anyone know what tortoises get along with russian tortoise my son wants a different tortoise for graduation

  • @jerilyn46 You should never mix species as they don't have immunity to eachothers natural parasites etc. If he got a different one he would have to keep it in an entirely seperate enclosure or risk both their lives. Obviously both enclosures would need to be large and well ventilated and you would have to research how each species needs to be kept. (Go to the tortoise trust for info).

  • hi u said plz comment so i hope you comment back:) how big will your tortoise get and what is he smallest tortoise? hoping to hear 6-11in

  • "he really likes it" tortoise doesnt move the whole time

  • That's a cute tortoise

  • dude whats supporting the tunnel? i like the idea but what if it collapses :( be safe herman lol

  • That is a kl Inclousure how it has them hide away hole things !! :)

  • spsohappy not sure what befell your tort. If I had to guess being a somewhat Tort expert. I have care of 10 of them. Look to it's diet. Should be only fresh veggy's. No commercial foods, no can, only fresh like in the wild.

    P.S. I feel your loss.

  • mine died today im still verry sad i was a really good owner he was fine no cuts no sickness i just woke up and he was fead he was olnl 1 year do you have any ideas what happend ?

  • is it a russian tortoise or herman????

  • nice enclousure really cool

  • @turtleboy5001 This is amazing!!!!! Its soooooooooo gooodddd!!!!!!!!!! :D Well done!

  • Wow that tunnel/ underground hide thing you have going is really awesome. I may do something like that when I upgrade my redfoot's enclosure when he's bigger. Thank you for the inspiration!

  • Im so going to make a tortoise bunker when I get my Russian Tortoise. Also you could do so much more with that enclosure.

  • 42 he looks so excited!!!11

  • what did you use to keep up the beeding

  • i like your tortoise bunker

  • its pretty good for an indoor one but i advise using an outdoor one they like it more

  • ware is the uvb light

  • Whot eart you yuse?

  • Hi im looking to build my own pen for a tortoise but i am not sure on how to keep the i need some help 1.do they smell 2.do i just feed them vegetables

  • that's a big place for the tort!!!!! does it have to be that big? I have one so how big should his house be?

  • @MarineBIueZ

I'd say the bigger the better as far as any enclosure for turtles or tortoises.Seems cruel to me to keep them in small tanks etc.Think of it this way--would you like to spend your whole life in a small room??Or would you prefer something larger where you had room to move around a bit?? I keep my 2 Russian Tortoises in my 10' x 10' turtle yard outside & they love the room. :-)

  • awesome enclosure, do you know if you can have 2 females but of different breeds in the same emclosure? (russian and spur thigh)

  • how did u make that burrow

  • Any recomendations on what tortoise I should get? I live in Louisiana which means it's humid, and I want a tortoise that likes to be active and is nice. Y'all know what I mean? I don't want one that bites or nothing like that. Comment back soon, thanks! P.s sweet enclosure

  • @XMONSTERPRODUCTIONX russian tortoise.they dont ever bite and they never attack and they are the easiset to care for.

  • i like the burrow.

  • is it indoor or outdoor?

  • looks like its an indoor enclosure cuz of the heating lamps...

  • Hey dude nuce tank. Do you think you could message me the plans to build one? thanks

  • I would like the layout plans for this enclosure and it's one of the best from my opinion

  • How come no one else uses proper substrate for these tortoises?

Every single caresheet I have read has said, "THEY LIKE TO BURROW"

Your video is 1 of maybe 20 I have seen on youtube that has deep enough substrate for it to burrow. I just set mine up, and I used your predug with a cover style so he has to do less work.

How deep is your sub' on avg throughout?

I just set mine up with a gradient one side has 6-7" deeps and the other side is only 3"

    A soil/Sand mix

  • Sweet setup!

  • age?

  • i REALLY need an answer to this problem:

my tortoise (same type, russian) isn't eating much during the winter. is that bad? what should i do?

  • Its normal they might be hibernating. if they are starting to scratch u. its normal dont worry

  • i believe it's normal, I am getting a tortoise next week, but I have turtles and even they eat less because of the slightly cooler temperatures

  • Great Idea, Russinas Love to Hide

  • whats the best bedding to use for a tortoise i used walnut shells cause the dude at petco told me to, when my tort goes in the water it gets all over his face and im concerned it may get in his eyes and it gets in his food

  • Thats an awesome cage you built. He should be pretty comfortable

    :)

  • that's so cool

  • Check out mine. its in the responses

  • im getting a 4 x 3 foot pen lawl no one get a vivarium :)

  • ill make a video as soon as i get it :) i just cleaned my room and now desk is spotless + 1 PC ill start making the pen soon.

  • sweet, my cage is similar to yours, but it has no burrow. its 5x6 feet

  • thats a really really really nice enclosure. one lucky tortoise!

  • that is simply amazing. they must be a joy to have. im geting a hatsfield tort for x-mas, i think thats what it is called. ill get a large tank after he is used to me :P message me if a large tank to start is better. 90 cm by 40 cm is my opinion of large

  • horsefield ^

  • not large enough. trust me, he'll grow. i just moved mine out of a 2x1 foot enclosure.

  • Nice table! How often do u replace all the soil? I'm thinking about getting a Herrmans tort so I think your idea would be a good way to go

  • awesome man i wish u could build one for me

  • that is the best tort table i have seen i hope mine will be like that

  • did the tortoise dig those tunnel?

  • @9912699125 yeh? he even went down the local hardware store for a timber support roof,,,,,????????????gawd???

  • i wish i had that 4 my tort.

  • thats pretty cool

  • wait how the heck do you make a burrow like that without it collapsing

  • omg way better than mines cage

  • cool set up

  • What substrate is that? I don't know what substrate to choose. There are too many options.

  • dude that is such a great idea, to have a burrow for you turtoise, Sorry but i'm so gonna copy you lol

  • i REALLY wanna by a russian tortoise but theres no breeders or stores near me should i buy it online? and if so plz tell me a trusted site thank you

  • never use pine....play sand and top soil mix

  • sweet tunnel system thing

  • that is sweet

  • Awesome enclosure. My girls have a russian tortoise they got from a playmate. He moved and didn't want to care for her anymore. It is good we got him because his family had him in a ten gallon fish tank and only fed her cabbage. The friend told me the RT was a boy and they didn't even know the breed, but with research online I found out she was a girl and a RT. She does not have a big enough enclosure, but what she has is much bigger.

  • thats cool im glad it found a better home

  • WOW What A Cawensadence (DANG IDK HOW TO SPELL SORRY) Tonight I just got done building a place like that out of just wood (oldschool) tomarrow i get to get MY Russian tortoise hey can you please give me Russian tortoise advice? What To Feed It,What It Likes ETC: You Look Like You Know Allot About Russian Tortoises So Yeah please reply

  • hey man, ive got a Red-footed Tortoise. Ive had him for about 4 months now. Ive been feeding him lettuce. He hasnt grown at all. Any suggestions? Does that mean he/she isnt healthy?

  • No wonder it doesn't grow because from lettuce they don't get any nutrients-you should do your research!

  • what substrate did you use

  • please make a video of how you made it please!!!!!!!!!! and how did oyu do the burrowing thing?

  • looks like you took a bunch of mud and dumped it in there then started to play with your army men in there and built some trenches then you coverd it in straw....

  • do you have any detailed desing plans... LOVE the cage

  • thats cool!!!! =o!!

  • This is a nice nice setup.

  • Hey, If you still had the plans to this or even just the dimensions, it would be awesome if you could mail them to me.

  • i cant get my hands on organic potting soil is there anything else?

  • did you seal the wood?? what kind of dirt did you use?? could you tell me all the details?? please and thanks !!

  • Really nice set up. When I'm in a more permanent residence, I'd like to set up something like this for my Russian. for a 100 WT lamp though, it seems like it's a bit low. The bulbs I use are 100 degrees at 12 inches, and that is just the 75 WT bulb. But I guess it's safe if your tortoise hasn't fried yet. I prefer "tried and true" to "textbook" setups anyway. Every situation is different.

  • how high is your wattage for that lamp???

  • 100 watts.

  • thaks very much for the info, btw your enclosure rocks

  • does he stay in that enclosure 24 hour?

  • yep

  • have you ultra violet light in the enclosure?

  • yeah it's one of the zoo med combo uva and uvb bulbs.

  • ive made a tortoise enclosure is compost alright for soil?

  • not really.

a bunch of rotted food is bad.

just get alot of organic potting soil without vermiculite or perlite.

  • i like the burrows you put in place

  • wut kind of beddin is that?

  • a sand/soil mix.

  • you should buy another russian tortoise since your enclosure is huge.

  • naww. two russians will need a way bigger enclosure.

  • Nice setup. How are tortoises as pets and on maintenance? I am thinking of getting one.

  • tortoises make great pets if you have the time, space, and money.

you will need time for building an enclosure like this one, or and outdoor pen in your backyard.

maintenance is high, as you can imagine with such a large area.

and overall they are very personable and friendly : ]

    hope that helped.

  • you can see he likes it by the smile on his face:) and for people that think tortoises don't smile ya need to study them more!!! nice home

  • i put my russian tortoise in a size 40 fish tank. he has a walk up bath, a top screen where 2 lamps just sit, one for day one for night (night is heating lamp), food bowl and a green mat used for walking and shady area (he likes to go under) but i take him outside for like a half hour every single day....is this good enough? Also those yellow flowers (dandelions i think) r they good for RT'S? please send me a message responding this

  • at :26 the turtle on top of the tunnel is kind of bad because if it tried to do a jump or a fall of some sort, it could injure it's head and that wouldn't be good so what I would do it put something to block the top of the tunnel so it doesn't have that cautious injury

  • awesome im trying to think of a design for my horsfield enclosure

  • well i'm glad this helped you.

  • thats awesome must have taken you ages to make

  • about 3 hours actually lol

  • Awesome enclosure although you might want to include a IFL to provide full spectrum of light!!!

  • yeah I love torts

  • hey i really like the enclosure I would have built one but i dont have the room in my room for something that big.

  • thanks!

  • cool

  • thanks.

  • i am going to copy it to i like it thanks!!!

  • your welcome.

glad you found an idea you like.

  • ima copy this idea...but make it for a desert...btw-i love your vids...you need to be more popular on here

  • haha thanks

  • loving the cage. whats your myspace as i would really like to build my russian tort the same type! loooks fab hope that you and your tortoise love it!

  • thanks!

i have a link for my myspace on the channel

  • make a video how to make one of these cages

  • i was thinking of doing such a thing.

    just been wondering how.

  • Wow. What a spoiled little tort!! Great job! Good to see people putting so much love into thier pets

  • thanks very much!

  • very well done

  • Cool enclosure.

  • pretty cool dude, are u usin a heat mat anyware in there? as he got an outdoor enclosure too? id love to see dat

  • no the only heat mat inside of my house is the one i use for my baby rosy boa.

he is in a plastic cage, therefore, he gets a heat mat.

i just have the reptisun uva/uvb bulb for heat and uv radiation.

due to my situation in texas, he doesnt have an outdoor enclosure.

  • That is an amazing housing for a tort! I wish I could go all out and make something like that for my boy but, limited space and a bitchy landlord stop me from doing so :<

  • haha i see what you mean.

i talk mom into it though lol

  • Thats like a tortoise condo! Cool! If mine werent outside I would want a russian enclosure just like yours..very creative.

  • free it!!!

  • it isnt a wild caught tortoise.

  • it isn't life for a horsfieldi

  • u free it so it dies? are u stupid

  • stupiddddddd

  • oh wow

    thats cool

    =]

  • Very Kool dude..I got one quetion man..When a Russian tortoise starts humping the other one in the same eclosure, does that aoutomatically mean its a Male? I thought the humper was the Female,(shes the biggest). The smaller one is allways getting chased atleast three times a day.

  • well. haha.

    how big is the "humper"

it might me a show of dominance but at this time of year im not sure.

its more than likely a male.

is the other tortoise snapping or just running away?

ill look to see if you have any vids. lol

  • That's a great habitat! How do you clean the burrow underground? Where do you put the UV lamp?

  • thanks hakugan!

i clean the burrow out weekly by lifting the boards up and scooping out substrate.

i have a uva/uvb combo bulb from zoo med.

  • For full instructions on how to build a burrow go to tortoisegroup dot org

  • Hey! that looks great!

i love that burrow idea. very cool.

  • lookin real good there austin - bet he loves iot

i adopre the burrow idea! (i may have to try & steal it :P:P:P)

  • its really cool lol

i just dug the layout of how it would look under ground and then put boards over it.

    easy and effective

  • yea lol... see id have made up some mad elaborate plan including several methods of support & much difficulty (if theres a difficult way to do things... i find it :P)

lookin good - will be much better when the grass grows
