  • I have had my parakeet for 2 days (2nd day as of now) and I believe it is beginning to trust me A LOT more than it did at first. Any suggestions to help me make sure it trusts me more? I also have it literally 3 inches away from my PC which im always on. So that helps as well. Anything else that may help me and my little friend next to me now have a better bond? I really like my bird!

  • i made this toy but imade like 9 and i put them togther.my parakeet loves it :)

  • Great video trying it now

  • lol jasmine is such a good helper and shes adorable:)

  • Jasmine is so cute!

  • How did you get your parakeet to like you??? (By coincidence, one of ours is named Jasmine, too!) :D

  • what is better to clip wings or not to clip?

  • how about the ink from that pen? lol

  • Harmonica? I Think You Meant To Say Acordian Lol

  • She is so adorable :))

  • 2 people dont have a bird to make this for :P

  • ur bird is anxious.!

  • can i make it with reaular paper like the one we write on

  • Cute ;)

  • oh that's very helpful video! i made 4 different colors and folded it like you did. I put them to my birds cage, they are trying peck on it bit. :) it saves money! thank for the tips! maybe make video of how to make small animal toys?

  • Jasmine is adorable!!

  • Jasmine is adorable and such a sweet and silly girl!

  • @MysteryEK - Great question - Jasmine chews on everything too :) She broke the thread on a couple of these toys by pulling on it. Both times she did this, the thread only broke in one spot before it fell off the cage. I didn't see any smaller pieces come off that I would have considered a choking hazard. Maybe it would be a great idea to use a thicker hemp or cotton type of string for this to be on the save side . It would probably keep Jasmin from yanking the thing off her cage too :)

  • i have two parakeets (boy&girl), well the girl is pulling out her feathers 1st it was because we took them to clip their wings, but her flying feathers grew back and she could fly now,but she is still pulling them out. so we bought her special food, but she still pulls her feathers out and now we think its our boy cause her buging her constantly and she gets mad sometimes. so me and my sis spend time w/them and decided to sperate them, but we need toys for the 2ed cage so can u tell me about that

  • @calltito - I use a few different toys for Jasmin. Some I bought, some I made.

    Here are some ideas:

    * Hanging Mirror - made by recycling the mirror lid of a make-up compact

    * Climbing toy of plastic rings - made from milk jug caps or something similar

    * Climbing toy of small branch pieces strung together (be careful of pesticides)

    * Share your Cat's plastic chase balls (yes, I said cat - Jasmine loves those)

    * Even a crumbled up paper ball is fun

    Hope this helps.

  • how did you build a jungle gym? how would I get my budgie to be like yours because he gets uneasy when i put my hand in the cage. His wings arent clipped.

  • @xxxMuRpHyK1d171xxx - I used things I had around the house - wood pieces (untreated), branches from my back yard, some hemp for a ladder, a paper toys etc.

Jasmine's wings aren't clipped either. I started by offering spray millet by hand in the cage until she sat on it (I never withheld other food to force this). It takes a lot of patience to hold your hand still for this long. Later I offered millet outside the cage. She got so comfortable that now she flies to my hand without a treat.

  • :-)

  • How did you get the jasmine so tame

  • @Amaz991 - I spend a lot of time with Jasmine. She is usually with me when I work at my desk. I found the more I interacted with her, the tamer and the more curious she became. Now, I can't type a single e-mail without her sitting on my keyboard getting in the way LOL.

  • @lillysunnie - Jasmin only comes out of her cage in one room, which helps. Also I built her a big jungle gym where she likes to sit most of the time and plays, I line it with newspaper for easy cleanup. And last but not least, since I interact a lot with her she is usually 'under supervision' when she is out, so this helps to catch her in the act. :) Hope this helps.

  • I made this for my parakeet and then my cat enjoys it. lol!

  • Hi - it could really be any kind of paper. Although I personally don't use the glossy printed paper you get with junkmail for example, because I don't know if that ink would harm my bird. My favorite is construction paper because it holds up a bit longer.

  • what kind of paper??? does it have to be construction paper???

  • thats nice=)

  • awwwee you birdie is just too cute. You can tell he was very excited about playing with the new toy.

  • how long have u had ur paraakeet? i got mine 2 months ago n theyre pretty tame now but they still dont do anythingg, like urs is wondering all over, mine just sti at one place, any help plz??

  • I found her in my backyard about 6 months ago. I interact a lot with her every day - sometimes directly talking to and handling her, sometimes just letting her explore the room without paying direct attention to her. The more familiar she became with us, the more comfortable she was exploring. Spray millet as a treat definitely helped to get her to come closer to me in the beginning. Hope this helps!

  • thanks alott =] but how long did take ur parakeet to start playing around with u?

  • tanks for the video

how do you make your parakeet stay realy calm with you?

  • Hi! I interact a lot with her on a daily basis - sometimes directly talking to and handling her, sometimes just letting her explore the room or my desk without paying direct attention to her. The more familiar she became with me and 'her' room, the calmer , the more trusting, not to mention the more nosy she became.

  • Aww, I absolutely adore how inquisitive your budgie is, and how at ease she is around you... my budgies are frightened of their own shadows so as much as I'd like to make them something like this, there's no doubt it'd have them flapping round the cage like little mental heads in terror!

Hopefully, they'll become more tame and trusting in time. :)

    Thanks for the video xx

  • Thanks! My secret in case you want to try is... I discovered Jasmin loves spray millet and as a treat I would only offer it by hand, first inside the cage, later with her out of the cage. It's like catnip to her :) Of course the first few times my hand fell asleep patiently waiting for her to sit on it. Once she figured it out it became a game. Now of course as you can see she has her little nose (sorry beak) into everything with or without millet... :)

    Good luck with your budgies!

  • We used to make these for decorations for birthday parties when we were kids. Nice idea for a budgerigar though and I'm all for re-recycling paper etc.
