Espcecially if you are on unemployment with no end in sight, past a certain point I'd expect there to be more uninsured drivers on the roadways and in my eyes I'd consider that a hardship waiver in bad economic times. Other polls showed that ppl want health care reform, so to say that it was taxation without representation is complete bull, especially considering that people voted for democrats and Obama on a universal health care platform.

This is a lie, that we've NEVER been required to purchase insurance! What about auto insurance? No insurance, even a lapse and you CAN be thrown in jail, lose your license, pay heavy fines, have your car and possessions impounded, or even, lose your job! We have come to accept this because it's best for the majority of people and today, that's just the way it is. Give this new healthcare plan a chance!
Two things dude. First is that it is the States doing it, not the federal government. The second is that if you want to drive a car in most States then you need to have auto insurance. But what if you refuse? If you refuse then you cannot drive a vehicle in that State. Now comes the federal government mandating that you purchase health insurance, and if you don't then what will happen? Will you be denied your life, that which is to be insured? The answer is yes because you will be put in prison.

We're required to be insured because of the financial damage that we as drivers can cause and could not normally pay for. Now the Uninsured still get treated in this Country and the cost has to be passed to either the Government or the Insured. Now is it right or wrong to operate a system like that? Jail time is also available for tax evasion. If you think about the refusal to pay for health insurance as stealing, since you CAN'T just refuse to get sick like you CAN refuse to drive a car, then jail time in many instances will be a more than a fair penalty and will act as a strong deterrent to free riding.

@mystic81006 part of it is to help people who would not be able to afford a regular health plan get regular care, which many of them normally would not get. if something is caught early at a check-up, it is generally MUCH cheaper and less painful to deal with then if caught in the later stages (as is the case with many who cannot afford regular checkups). so the measure helps them greatly by allowing regular checkups, AND reduces the burden on everyone else

Before this bill was passed, government didn't force you to pay higher premiums for the uninsured, since you weren't obligated to pay any premiums at all if you wished.

as the nation keeps declining with job loss,, I'd expect people to start actually breaking the insurance laws more and more since the employment situation might suck for them. Espcecially if you are on unemployment with no end in sight, past a certain point I'd expect there to be more uninsured drivers on the roadways and in my eyes I'd consider that a hardship waiver in bad economic times. Govt better correct itself soon otherwise insurance requirments will become meaningless.

Other polls showed that ppl want health care reform, so to say that it was taxation without representation is complete bull, especially considering that people voted for democrats and Obama on a universal health care platform.

But what if you refuse? If you refuse then you cannot drive a vehicle in that State. We're required to be insured because of the financial damage that we as drivers can cause and could not normally pay for. Jail time is also available for tax evasion. If you think about the refusal to pay for health insurance as stealing, since you CAN'T just refuse to get sick like you CAN refuse to drive a car, then jail time in many instances will be a more than a fair penalty and will act as a strong deterrent to free riding.

@mystic81006 part of it is to help people who would not be able to afford a regular health plan get regular care, which many of them normally would not get. if something is caught early at a check-up, it is generally MUCH cheaper and less painful to deal with then if caught in the later stages (as is the case with many who cannot afford regular checkups). so the measure helps them greatly by allowing regular checkups, AND reduces the burden on everyone else

Before this bill was passed, government didn't force you to pay higher premiums for the uninsured, since you weren't obligated to pay any premiums at all if you wished.

Driving a car on public roads is a PRIVILEGE. In order to enjoy that privilege, a driver has to meet certain requirements, like pass a driving exam and acquire auto insurance. If a person does not want to meet these requirements, then he can just forgo the privilege of driving.
Tell us, what privilege does the health insurance mandate give me access to? A mandate should only be imposed in exchange for a privilege that can be declined. What privilege can I decline in order to not be mandated?

Hopefully the states will go forward with plans to nullify the unconstitutional federal law requiring americans to get health insurance or be punished as felons. I'm afraid they'll give in to bribes and threats like so many times before though, but I can at least hope otherwise.
