@bulby1994 No, not bad parenting, her instincts tell her to do that to jolt the baby into moving to get up on it's feet as soon as possible. In the wild, a tiger or lion or other predator isn't going to wait for the baby to slowly get up, so its best the mother jolt the baby to get it up on it's feet asap. She didn't hurt the baby at all.

In the wild, the baby would be a goner if it did not get up right away. As you can see, the mom does not lay down to have the kid. The shock of the baby hitting the ground is also used as a "wake up call" for the kid. Amazing nature! Thanks for posting!

It's normal for giraffes to kick their calves up like that after they're born. It's just a normal giraffe parental instinct and it's not meant to hurt the baby. In the wild, the baby needs to be up on his feet quickly after he's born so he can be ready to flee from predators.
