@bulby1994 No, not bad parenting, her instincts tell her to do that to jolt the baby into moving to get up on it's feet as soon as possible. In the wild, a tiger or lion or other predator isn't going to wait for the baby to slowly get up, so its best the mother jolt the baby to get it up on it's feet asap. She didn't hurt the baby at all.
That's just the barn where they sleep at night. During the day they have a big open area to move around in, with trees and grass and zebras and other animals.
i like it when humans dont help the animals unless something goes wrong ANIMALS KNOW HOW TO DO IT!!!!! how do ya think they survived untill we started helping them
It's called EVOLUTION. See, millions of years animals evolved. Giraffes are a product of evolution. Obviously, they have been dropping babies like this since before recorded history. Obviously, if they were damaged / killed regularly, giraffes would have never made it. Morons.
yea like all on the fall that way no matter where it fell it had a soft landing, in the wild that cant happen, but at least in captivity we could try to make it a little softer
i suppose the fall might help to jarr it into moving but still...that doesnt look too good. i suppose in the wild it falls onto dirt, which might be softer than concrete. there was straw though...all in all, that looks pretty, ouch.
I loved how momma tapped at the calf to get the newborn to get up. Such a beautiful experience it must have been to actually be there. Thank you for sharing. :O)
In the wild, the baby would be a goner if it did not get up right away. As you can see, the mom does not lay down to have the kid. The shock of the baby hitting the ground is also used as a "wake up call" for the kid. Amazing nature! Thanks for posting!
It's normal for giraffes to kick their calves up like that after they're born. It's just a normal giraffe parental instinct and it's not meant to hurt the baby. In the wild, the baby needs to be up on his feet quickly after he's born so he can be ready to flee from predators.
That was so terrifying, haha. Fascinating, and the birth of an animal is always lovely, but that was a little more graphic than I had prepared myself for! Thanks for posting ;}
They give birth easily because their heads are narrow and small in comparison to their bodies, unlike human heads which are round & comparatively large.
No thanks. Had I given the comment a little more consideration, then yeah, I might have been more precise. But, rest assured, I did in fact know that it was amniotic fluid and parts of the placenta.
I had to watch this video for my class...... I almost hurled when the baby droppped and the liquid spewed.......

Well, I'm sure things can go wrong, but laying down is actually more dangerous. The mothers weight could crush and kill the baby.
