Some groups retain some features that are benefitial to their context and those might be the same or similar to the features that some of ther ancestors had, while others get bottlenecked and only some features survive, changing the population from the original one. Some of these things vary over time and culture, but generally people don't murder the people of the same group. Not so sure how many theories it challenges. The theories and ideas we have in front of science today are SO weak. There are so many weak scientific theories that are followed as if fact, when they are ideas only.
