  • Could'nt believe the villian was called 'Dr Who'.

  • mechakong was before mechagodzilla.he is originally first mecha-imposter in toho's productions.i saw this movie in 1995 when i was a kid.

  • some sounds and music are from godzilla!! mecha kong sounds like king Ceaser in this trailer...good nonthe less tho!!!

  • Wait Mondo Island, isn't Kong's home suppose to be Skull Island??

  • Wait a japaness verison of King Kong AND DOCTOR WHO!? WTF

  • @DoctorWriter13 It's actually supposed to be spelt as Dr. Huu coz the guy's Japanese but it looks like the guys behind the English part of it messed up! Time Lords don't send evil Robots running around for no reason! What an epic fail of spelling! Not towards you I mean, I meant the guys behind the (I'm just going around in circles so I trust you get my point!)

  • I wonder what would happen if Mechani Kong and MechaGodzilla would battle.

  • kong eyes look like they about to pop out.

  • What happened to the real 40 feet tall Kong that was killed by a squadron of biplanes?

  • Remake this movie and King Kong Vs.Godzilla.

  • @Rycan18 why they're old classics and theres to many remakes now a days

  • King Kong should sue!!!

  • @rickw1100 Toho bought the rights to Kong to make sequels and remakes.

  • @MOVIEmania709 - Well, sort of . Toho paid RKO $ 200,000 to use the King Kong character in the film. Because the film was so successful Toho wanted to then create a series around Kong much like they did with Godzilla- but were refused by RKO, who would not agree to that (thank God ). They were, however, permitted to release another Kong film in 1967, "King Kong Escapes". I still think Kong should sue for deformation of character !

  • @rickw1100 you went more in depth then the book i read and i agree he does look bad.

  • @MOVIEmania709 ...I do have to admit though, and perhaps you would agree- that there was a certain charm that those Toho productions had, that is lacking in all the CGI technology used today . Perhaps because I saw them as a little kid- I knew they were a guy in a rubber suit, but I thought they were great. But thanks for posting.

  • @rickw1100 i love pretty much any movie that comes from toho or any other studio that features men in rubber suits i guess you could say i'm a nerd but i know i am i love anything thats godzilla pretty much half of my entire family watches all the old horror and science fiction films i even collect them. and i'm going to be honost i don't really care for the movies that are coming out now i love the old movies better than almost all the movies that are coming out now most are remakes.

  • Saw this as a kid on our local UHF station.STILL love it!

  • Only the REAL King Kong had balls of steel. No metal jock strap reqiured.

  • at 1:06 the Kong mask looks different

  • tokyo thank you SO much for ruining this masterpeice

  • Much more fun than Peter Jackson's remake of the '33 classic. Great looking DVD.

  • Real Nigga vs Robo Nigga

  • :l this is better than CGI

  • 0:25, Kong: HOLY SHIT!

  • Mightiest monster of all time my ass.Gojira!

  • Watched this as a kid and son loves it now. Worth it for Robot King Kong and especially for Linda Miller who is a friggin HOTTIE! I'd "pick her up" too :)

  • This movie is a 10 year old's wet dream! King Kong and a robot Kong kicking each other's ass in Tokyo....And yes, too bad Linda miller really didn't do much else :(

  • King Kong escapes was released in the UK as second feature to Carry on Up the Khyber. (an odd mix)

  • Ironically, Doctor Who looks like the First Doctor, but Japanese!

  • This is one movie That I think Inspired the first terminator Movie

  • The thing that scared me the most about this movie was Dr. Who's bottom teeth.

  • You had me at Robo-Kong. But then...another monster? AND the army? I'm fucking buying this.

  • @angeltosome I spent 3 bucks on mine at Giant Tiger...the absolute BEST 3 bucks ever spent...ever!! My 12 year old and I have been watching parts of it almost daily since Christmas...an total riot!!

  • Believe it or not. Rankin/Bass helped make this

  • Dr. Who's teeth always scared me as a child. Haha

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE! It was on often enough when I was a kid on TV. Kong looks like crap just like he did in King Kong vs Godzilla... makes me wonder why Toho never could find anyone to make a workable gorilla mask (?) but whatever. I am making a giant monster movie using clay animation instead of ppl in rubber suits. Its just cheaper and easier for me that way. subscribe! thanks.

  • I love this movie! I leant it to my friend & the fucker did not return it to me. It's been 4 years!!! NOw is that a real friend?

  • So cheap......that's what makes these movies lovable.x3

  • I loved this as a child! My dad taped it when we got out first vcr and i loved it!

  • Absolutly batshit crazy!!!! I love it lol. Who needs 200million dollar cgi when you can have crazy guys in suits smashing toys....Robo Kong...GENIUS!!

  • Please tell me why can't all movie rubber suit monsters look silly, goofy and act retarded? And the metal Kong foe is equally a low register on the Tokyo earthquake scary monster battle richter scale.

  • i come they that is the first time anyones ever seen king kong

  • Excuse me, but did i hear it wrong or is that mad scientist's name Doctor Who? They have even found an actor who resembles Peter Cushing! That's badass!

  • My second favorite King Kong movie besides the original 1933 classic. Excellent plot for a King Kong movie and not only that he fights a mechanical clone of himself. Way better than the 1976 remake of King Kong which severly lacked monsters all except King Kong and a giant serpent.

  • rite, he'd gotten smaller, i hope dis movie ish exciting 2 watch

  • Kong shrank since he fought Godzilla!

  • @badism Its because this is a different Kong. The King Kong is 45 meters tall, while this one is King Kong (2nd Generation) which is only 20 meters tall Check it out on Toho Kingdom Monster Bio.

  • Wow its the third Doctor Who movie.

  • Why?

  • cos the villan is called Doctor who

  • I really like these old movies and how cool they made them look, even with technologies available back then, but if a movie like that("special effects" I mean) was made today I would really hate it

  • Wow! That's so stupid!

  • king kong gonna kick that robot ass!!

  • Just found where to watch b th1s m0vie online @ MOOV ZON . COM g00gle the link above

  • Awesome. Hail King Kong.

  • Mr. Nakajima appeared at a convention in Chicago in 2008, and will be coming to San Francisco in 2010. KING KONG ESCAPES was the live action version of the KING KONG cartoon series made by Rankin-Bass (animated by Toei Animation), who commissioned Toho to do this version. The film is available from Universal Pictures Home Video.

  • LOL Doctor Who!

  • Okay looks like an interesting movie to watch I only seen half of it but it looks like Mechakong in a way lol.Hell they should have teamed up with Godzilla against mechaGodzilla. With the catch phrase Two unlikely allies against two Strong foes.

  • I love the music in these Japanese giant monster flicks. It's so ......dramatic! I wish someone would have the nerve to make a movie like this today. Rubber suits , model cities and crazy dialog. I could watch these flicks all day. I have little patience for today's horror/ sci-fi movies. It's mostly boring CGI and no story whatever.

  • @mindstormsabrewin id make a movie like this... all id need is some money and people ballsy enough to wear the costumes... i got toys to use for buildings lol

  • Mammoth

    Behemoth

    Goliath!!!

love that part. saturday morning cheesy movie rubber suited greatness.

  • Great 60's cornball cheese awesomeness.

  • This Kong is reminiscent of the design for the 1958 Toho film "Half Human", which tackled the legend of the Abominable Snowman.

Some, (but not all) of the suit screams Kong.

You have to give Toho credit-whereever there was a legend that needed mashing, they were there to do it, but in a fun way that made you say "pass the popcorn!" lol

  • King Kong is the best man! They should do more stand-alone films of Kong, without worrying about Kong's demise in the original film.

  • They should do a 1oo million dollar remake. that would be insane!

  • Good movie

  • This trailer is so awsome. I must get this on dvd. Mecha-kong rulz, specially when he shines his lights XD

  • LOVE the music though!

  • I enjoyed this as a kid back then, but looking at it now....wow, Toho's version of Kong's appearance was steep on the goofy charts.

  • It's a fun movie. Whatever.

  • Definetly fun. Toho did the best they could with the budget and technology they had available to them. I remember always looking forward to seeing Godzilla flicks.

  • Toho's best non-Godzilla film (imo) was "War Of The Gargantuas."

Reason being, was Toho actually went thru some pains to make the monsters believable.

The biggest stroke of authenticity was allowing the actors to use their own eyes in the face makeup, as opposed to the "ping pong ball" eyes of the Godzilla suit. This gave them emotion.

Add an actual moral conflict between the two, (and not just a brawl) and you get an unusual film that stands out among normal monster flicks.

  • Shawn, good observation on "War of the Gargantuas". The neat thing about that movie was that the Green Gargantua was played by the same actor (Nakajima) who also played Godzilla. He stated in an interfview that he liked playing the Gargantua since he could move freely in that suit. Understandable, especially since he was a martial arts expert. I first saw that movie when I was 8 years old. Green Gargantua scared me so much that I had trouble sleeping for several days!

  • Righto! I met Mr. Nakajima at Chiller Theatre and he said the same thing.

The ability of Mr. Nakajima to move his eyes naturally like a real creature gave him the emotional range Toho tried to portray.

Brown Gargantua had very large, soulful eyes that indicated high intelligence and kindness, while Green gargantua's eyes were filled with hatred and anger.

    Very bold strokes of realism.

  • Good observations, Shawnster65. I'm surprised that a sequel to W. of Gargantuast hasn't been made. BTW: is Mr. Nakajima still alive?

  • I believe Mr. Nakajima may still be living.

I met him at Chiller Theatre in 2001 and he was, according to his assistants, in very good health.

I haven't heard anything about him passing away, so let's hope for the best and wish him many more years :)

I do know however, that Akihiko Hirata (Dr. Serizawa in the first G film) Jun Tazaki, Takashi Shimura and Toho

music master Akira Ifukube have all since passed on.

    All legends in my book.

  • awesome! thanks.
