I disagree with the theory that only the best should be on the dreamteam. Reason is because the USA lost in 2004 because of their attitude.
We dont need the best of the leage to make it. We just need a team capable of solving issues when they come. This is like Shaq vs. Kobe compared to a Jordan Pippen duo. The 2004 didn't really complement themselves they compete among themselves.
Now the 2008 has been training for a long time now, they have played plenty of games and they still have issues
I think it would be nice if they would let the best American College players play and eliminate Pro Athletes from the Olympics. Thats just my opinion though. What do you think?
and don't think that'll work. How do you judge who 's pro and who's not? How do you control if somebody does only live of his sports or not. That's simply impossible. That's the reason why in the 70es they slpwly started to allow pros, They had the same problems back then. The idea of amateurs is cool, but it doesnÄt work out in real life. Just like communism:-)
It's funny you should mention Communism because that is actually what this is about. We started to allow pros to play because the Soviets where hand picking people and training them from a young age so we responded to their socialized sports with our Capitalism. The Cold War is over now. We don't need to make that point to the world. I think that the old system could work again, just don't let people who play sports for a living play. It's not fair to smaller countries. But thats my opinion.
See, I stand behind if our BEST players were all there, we would win no problem, but the truth is, they aren't.
Two things, to your first post, we won with all allstars when MJ was on the team, so its not as though it is not doable. And what are you, a boston homer, ray allen is not on that list.
Will the U.S. win gold this Olympics? No, absolutely not! They will win bronze, maybe silver. They have too many And1 players, so they can't play as a team like the first Dream Team. Look back at 4 years ago and you will see the justification to that claim. The goal is the win the gold, not to use the stars for marketing purposes. Moreover, they are not going to win the gold with Boozer, Bosh, and Prince. They need Garnet and Duncan.
No, Kevin Garnett is a coward. Saying you aren't going cause you don't want to lose is like saying I won't fight crime because the criminals might try to kill me.
Talk about all those internationals coming to the NBA: just look at the Spurs! They have too many of them damn ferners. They took our jobs! And Tim Duncan shouldn't be on our team... he's from the Virgin Islands.
I just don't want him on my Olympic team. He's too fundamental. The best big men ever to play for the USA Olympic team were Barkley and Malone... unquestionably!
Yeah, but it's understandable what rival countries are feeling about the Speedos. On the other hand, the U.S. team is so strong that we would dominate either way. >_>

Good insight though on your overview of the team. The only thing is your comment on Dwayne Wade but then he surprised everyone.

You mean those issues like blowing teams out left and right?
hawkiz4life 3 years ago
I mean their game has been sour for some key players like Kobe. Dwight just got 2 points on last game.
Again the problem is not the players is their chemistry.

You mean ban all pros of the Olympics or just NBa players?

all pros. That is why I said all pro athletes in the Olympics. That is the way it used to be.

Who ever picked the players for the 2004 team should be executed. We might win the gold with the following players.
Kobe Bryant
LeBron James
Dwight Howard
Kevin Garnet
Tim Duncan
Chris Paul
Carmelo Anthony
Ray Allen
and that's it. The NBA is going down. There aren't any other players good enough to get us the GOLD. How patheitc.

Kevin Garnett is a smart person...he doesnt want to go to loose.
BRONZE is the best they can reach.
No FIBA rules no stars... the answer is TO PLAY REAL BASKETBALL no ONE vs ONE.

and shaq was probably the best big man to play for USA but it's just that he got overshadowed by USA's loss that year
