  • She was a great ship -- four battle stars. My father served on her as a gunner's mate. I've transcribed his and one of his shipmate's diaries. Will likely create a website one of these days for the diary and copies of other things he has. Still adding pics and annotations.

  • The bell and anchor from this ship is at the Luzerne County courthouse in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

  • This is an amazing video. Thank you so much.

  • There is a USS Wilkes that served at World War 2 and as a flagship with the Pollux and the Truxton, The Wilkes ran aground but was able to reverse engine to get off the reef while Truxton and Pollux suffered their end.

  • My apologize Phil. Just noticed your comment. Temp varies between low 50's to mid 70's at depth. It depends on the currents. Surface is in the low 80's.

  • Awesome video Johnny. What's the temp at the bottom there? It must get pretty sticky at the surface in a drysuit that time of year in Florida.

  • kewl j!!
