  • 0:09 scared the crap out of me

  • @bmillerdrums yeah I heard that before. They DID change a lot of the names and even killed of survivors (in the movie) who actually survived (in reality). SOme characters didnt even make the cut in the movie. Still though, this is the best version of this story. I really dont get how people say it's bad. It's ridiculous. Inaccurate is not the same thing as bad.

  • Bad acting....like any of the people saying can do any better. BTW A lot of these people (PERSONS BASED UPON) suffered the shock of the crash, therefore they barely reacted to the situation at first (Example Bobby Francois smoking casually near the crash site RIGHT AFTER they crashed, Pablo Montero asking if he was in any danger when CLEARLY he had a metal piece driven straight thru him, the mechanic's hostile behavior) The situation is bad enough to put ANYONE in diff. types of distress.

  • @shad0wMata Pablo Montero was actually Enrique Platero in the real story. I assume family members didnt want the real names of the victims to be in the movie it would be too difficult. Like Felipe who was sitting next to Nando was Panchito Abal. But there was a boy named Felipe Marriqurian{wrong spelling} who died the next day so its strange how the names are some what accurate yet also not accurate in terms of the story to the movie. This happens throughout the movie.

  • @bmillerdrums Antonio is Marcelo & Misters Alfonsin is Misters Mariani

  • Dam, when he said "JESUS", I thought he was Jesus and he was just letting everyone know he was there

  • Bad acting but good film

  • ommmg! i hoppe this to no one, even to my enemis, this is so sad :( R.I.P victime of this plane crash, may god bless y'all

  • beef, its whats for dinner?

  • @Exentine Not funny. This is very serious. Say beef , its whats for dinner the next time your flying. This happened to real people its not appropriate to mock or joke about this in any form

  • Why are people hating that these are some english people and that the real incident consisted of people from Uraguay??? This is a MOVIE, not a documentary. It just so happens to be AMERICAs version of the incident. Nothing wrong with that.

  • all i could tink of when they gave him the snow was nooo bear grills says noo let it melt

  • 4m Don't worry about it.You got a new limb growing out you'r midsection. I guess they could of left it their to eat later

  • pilot: water

  • 11 likes loves Titanic

  • okay i know this movie is from the early 90s but cmon i mean a guy has a fucking pipe carved into his stomach and he is fine??

  • @aerofores Well, this really happened so it must've been like that !

  • listen u eat to live and if u think eating meat is wrong then the next time u eat at mcdonalds think that that was alive once i would eat to live and it is bad acting but good flim

  • PABLO: is it serious?

ME: damn straight its freaking serious! you have a PIPE in your ABDOMEN.

  • @wafflewaffle90 Well, what was he supposed to tell him? "Yes, you're going to die." In medical school, one learns to instill confidence in one's patient.

  • It's sad that they did not know that 18 miles from them was a hotel. Even though it would have been very hard to get there plus they would have had to cross a large river.

  • What a lovely, happy film

  • um....hot guys.

  • And I'm surprised none of them are really crying after the crash O.O I'd be sobbing if I saw that many of my friends dead

  • @artmusicplz Shock?

  • @hockey6467 i guess so. But even afterward they had pretty straight faces :X

  • am I the only one who thought of spongebob when that lady said "MY LEG!" at 2:24?

  • Just a few questions, sorry if they have been asked already.

    1. How in the heck did that ladies legs get in such a position where metal is literally wrapped around them?

    2. Wasn't it a bad idea for the metal to be pulled out of that one survivors abdomen? Was leaving the object in not common practice in the early 70s?

  • @LyricalXilence i can't answer the first one. But the second.. my guess is that that rule is only for short term application to keep the person from bleeding to death before they get to a hospital. But once the person gets to a hospital it is removed immediately because the thing can't stay in there. Infection risk is too great. There is no hospital here. You're better dying from bloodletting than infection. I'm guessing this was the rationalization.

  • When I see something like this, I realize how much mobile phones are important! How many lives would have been saved if they had invented them earlier...

  • @Paulina86 Even if they had mobile phones they would of been completely usless since they were in a very remote place so there would of been no cell coverage.

  • Oh my God i rather die than to suffer like the Pilot's situation! :(

  • I'd hate to imagine what would've happened to everyone had both the medical students died (especially if they were both sucked out of the plane when it broke in half...either that, or if both were killed on impact)

There already was an actual doctor on board, but he died along with his wife (the movie shows both dead underneath the seats)

  • @HA1290 Oops sorry, they weren't underneath seats...they were underneath suitcases @ 2:03

  • this is the team rugby from uruguay !!!!

    don't forget !

  • couldnt they just weld the plane back together? the wings and engines were in one piece. then take off

  • @TheDEATHSTARIII That is honestly one of the stupidest comments I have read.

  • @0lozi0 it was supposed to be

  • This is some bad acting

  • @narutofan4545 You may say bad acting, but, what? This was real. I am uruguayan, and my father is friend of Nando Parrado, and... I hope you will never have to be in that situation. When the others said that the only escape was to eat human meat, he had to protected the bodies of his mother and sister for not to be eaten, and you say "This is some bad acting"??

  • @aCRISTOlagloria I know this happend but the actors in the movie arent the best

  • @aCRISTOlagloria right. So doesn't that make the bad acting even more disrespectful??? It is bad acting. So? The comments don't take away from the event. But perhaps the bad acting does...

  • I jumped 10 feet in the air when the boy got up and yelled JESUS! lol.scared me too death!

  • @IDontCare20101000 Oh shit!!!!! Me too lol cuz i didnt know how high up my sound was cuz at the beginning I couldn't hear anything so i tuned it up dammn now my hearts beating

  • @IDontCare20101000

he looks like phil hellmuth by the way LOL!

  • Esta pelicula es una garcha

  • Winter of 1848 a wagon train got trapped on their way to California and Oregon while in the Rocky Mountains. Two men fought over the path to take: Reid, who was pushed out, but promised to send help from San Francisco and Donner, who hired two native scouts who got them further lost.) Months later, in an extremely bad winter, Reid returned with help to find only 1/4 of them alive there. They admitted to canaballism. They were called the Donner Party. It's in the Wikipedia.

  • AMERICANS!!! PLEASE DON' BE ASHOLESSS!! ........THE URUGUAYANS ARE WHITES ........--- ITS VERY DIFFICULT UNDERSTAND THAT??? WHY DO YOU THINK THE EUROPEAN INMIGRATION ONLY HAPPENED IN UNITED STATES OF AMERICA???.....

  • Comment removed

  • @gatolocoverga152 I don't think these assholes in the comments section are Americans. More like anti-Americans trying to put the blame on Americans for posing as other nationalities. I think the message you should get across instead is: NOT ALL WHITE PEOPLE ARE AMERICAN.

  • May I know the tittle of the book. i want to read it

  • Alive is a book written by a mountain climber who researched the whole story.... Miracle in the Andes is the book written by Fernando Parrado. He is the guy who actually survived and climbed out of the Andes to rescue the remaining survivors

  • THIS MOVie has haunted me since my childhood

  • JESUS!

  • this movie is raw and real! My goodness! I just said 4 prayers thanking God for my life! RIP the those lives lost from this plane crash!

  • @pamperedgurl yeah ok we get it, can u shutup now and stop yelling

  • @chessinfantry someone is bitter....

  • @pamperedgurl yeah, ur moms pussy tasted bitter last night

  • What you "could of" or "would of" have done is alot easier said than done...Don't judge these ppl for what they had to do to survive Only God can do that& these boys did no wrong....I was born the same yr this really did happend. These ppl are my heros...I will never forget hearing about this story..May all of them R.I.P.for those who didn't survive...

  • I swear the guy at 0:08 looks like messi's twin lol

  • This movie doesn't give the tragedy justice. The acting and the script are insulting to the victims. I hope they redo this movie because it's a story that must be told, just better than this.

  • uhmmmm,

they didnt seem all that upset that there friends died..

  • Um, this movie does have some great acting and some of the people used accents as was needed. they didnt all have to be tan, since some of the real people had light complexions. This movie isnt trying to impose religion, its just one of the main points of their individual story. say what you want, but these are truly amazing people and their story is very inspirational. saying bad things about it just makes you look dumb, to be honest. why dont we all try to be nice?

  • @blahface1357 What tans are you talking about, don't you know there was an european inmigration to south america in the past and as a result half or more of the people here are caucasian?

  • @Fucklesticks i meant that some people were expecting them all to be tan and complained when they werent. i knew some were caucasian.

  • nice

  • why is the audio so low :l

  • I would definitely recommend the book. Although it is a lot better as it goes into a lot more detail, this film is very accurate to how the book is written. A fantastic film, thankyou so much for putting it on You Tube

  • 8:14 you can clearly see there not cold as bad as they are outside

they should sleep inside the plain with the blankets they made.

  • Pilot loos like steve railsback.

  • Quick question: Why did they all stay in the plane after the crash? I understand that they had to get the people out who were stuck, but I was always told the first thing you do after a crash is get away from the plane cause it could blow up...

  • @atomicoreo51 This is true about leaving the plane after the crash, but they were stuck in the most severe weather area of the Andes. They would not have survived as long as they did had they wondered off. They did not have the proper attire to sustain the cold.

  • @atomicoreo51 some of the younger ones did start walking away from the plane, but once they saw carlos valeta fall into a crevass, never to be seen again, and that the plane wasnt smoking up, they went back inside

  • canessa had feelings for suzanna??

  • What gets me? The pilot was exposed to the snow just as long as the passengers, but why does he already have frost on his face ?

  • @codysmith80 maybe because the pilot area was stucked already in a snowy area as u can see how high the snow are already ..

  • these people are evil, sinful vampies. . .

  • @outlawscumfuck667 No. They did what they did to survive under appalling circumstances.

  • 1969 is the year of the pig.

  • @outlawscumfuck667 nice screen name by the way, it says a lot about you. 1969 is also the year that man walked on the moon.

  • Some of your comments are really out of line and so disrespectful. Remember that this isn't just a movie, but a true story. You all seem pretty good at judging them for the decisions that they made. They did the best that they could under the circumstances. I could have never played a part in allowing the copilot to take his life. If he knew how to fly a plane they wouldn't have crashed.

  • It was such an amazing movie. The human spirit is a force to be reckoned with. I saw the movie with my mom when it was in the theater and she said that she never could have survived. You don't know what you would do until you were in a situation like that. It seems impossible though but they did it. It amazes me how they lived out in the snow for ten weeks. The cold would have bothered me much more than the starvation. I can't imagine having to resort to cannibalism. They did what they had to.

  • Great movie, and i fell with the persons.

  • Simpsons did it best:

Man 1: No thanks to the plane, many of us are still...

Everyone: Alive! Man 2: [through full mouth] We certainly are. [chews] Man 3: Pass me another hunk of copilot.

  • Simpsons did it best:

Man 1: No thanks to the plane, many of us are still...

Everyone: Alive! Man 2: [through full mouth] We certainly are. [chews] Man 3: Pass me another hunk of copilot.

  • These fools got exactly what they deserved. I'm a genius.

  • @outlawscumfuck667 you're a jackass, not a genius.

  • JEZUS!!!!!!!!

  • 0:21 dat guy always die in every movie

  • This movie is so sick and brutal masterpiece. All though I gotta say I would started walking earlier before half of them died and we had to resort to cannibalism.

  • @Avatar7811 you wouldn't,you would have waited for the rescue like they did and every other sane human being would have done.

  • @Massimo1GK well said well said, i like the way people getting brave here thinking it was so easy to be in the middle of moitains n walking out of them like its nothing

  • @Massimo1GK

I agree, because waiting for rescue usually has higher survival rate.

  • @Massimo1GK unless you are the guys from Dual Survival

  • @Avatar7811 they waited because they had hopes of being rescued and they couldn't walk earlier than the did because of the bad weather. They had to wait for the weather to improve.

  • @nikkidanielle1969 it was because it was the winter

  • @Avatar7811 They couldn't walk earlier because of the bad weather and because they thought they were going to be rescued. They only went walking when there was no other choice.

  • @Avatar7811 fat ass!

  • @Avatar7811 well, they were counting on rescue and the only one who really wanted to walk out was nando. others would think he was being suicidal to climb a mountain, but as time passed, they saw that something had to be done, so they tried everything except climb the mountain. when everything failed, they had to wait the weather out. they had to resort to cannabilism even before walking out was an option.

  • @Avatar7811 I would of joined those two and smoked and drank some wine...if the crash didn't kill me or take off a leg

  • @Avatar7811 plus a lot of them had broken legs, or wounded legs,. what are they just gonna leave them there to die?

  • @Avatar7811 it was too cold, you stupid fuck. How are you going to walk out when you would die on the first night?

  • @Avatar7811 It's not cannibalism .... a canibal is a person who kills to eat.

  • Laguerra the co-pilot suffered in freezing agony with the plane's instruments buried into his chest for over 30 hours before he died. And all that time - apart from that brief visit about the radio- he was alone. He died alone whilst the others clung together. Whatever else one feels or believes, whatever the circumstances - by me this is a golden rule: no-one should ever be left to die alone.

They left him and yet they wouldnt even let him end his agony - thanks to the Papal bullshit rule

  • @krakenwave Well, they couldnt stay with him cause they had to stay warm, nor could they move him so they had no choice.Perhaps someone should have checked on him from time to time but thats all they could do.I read the book but cant remember if they found the gun.Even if they had, how could they kill him? If he could have moved his hand they could have let him shoot himself.Seeing as how they ate the dead, would it have been such a crime to put him out of his misery?

  • @Tempe1962

They didn't have to "put him out of his misery" but could've given him the gun for "protection"- a pretend-justification like the bodies being a "Eucharist". But they refused to look for the gun because of RC anti suicide. Hate to criticize survivors because they heroes but I read book & remember actual event - & the painful, lonely death of the pilot (added to all his mental anguish of guilt - "We Passed Curico!") was a tragedy made worse by RC superstition- & it haunts me still.

  • @krakenwave They could only give him the gun if they had it. I dont think it was found.

  • @Tempe1962 they wouldn't do it because they were Roman Catholics and mercy killing is against their religion.

  • @Tempe1962 I know that.My point is I dont think they found the gun so its rather pointless to bring up what they would have done.

  • @krakenwave I couldn't be a part of helping someone to kill themselves. The accident was caused by the copilots error. He couldn't see because of the weather and he descended the plane too early. He used what is called dead reckoning. The judge how far you've traveled based on the amount of time you've been in the air, but he didn't take the winds slowing them down into account. He needed to stay up in the air longer before descending.

  • @krakenwave They didn't let him end his agony not because of the Papal rule. According to Zerbino, Once the rest of the survivors had known that there was a loaded gun in the plane, some of the desperate ones would have preferred to kill themselves rather than fight for survival, especially once they knew the rescuing efforts were abandonned. So Zerbino hid the bullets and Canessa hid the gun. But for the rest of your comment, I agree with you, that they should have stayed with him at least

  • @heymissdeejay

I cannot blame them for not staying with him - not in their situation

But I feel it should be a moral principle - a rule - that guides feelings and actions - and its a better one than "no mercy killing."

The Piers Paul Read book (1974): he asked for his gun to end his life but Canessa and Zerbino couldn't find it nor would have given it for "as Catholics they could not condone suicide".

I think Zerbino later changed the version of this incident because they felt bad about it.

  • @heymissdeejay

And "some of the desperate ones would have preferred to kill themselves "? 1)This was the first night after the crash - they knew nothing about rescue attempts. 2) Later they could fire the bullets if they worried. And in no accounts was mentioned suicide. Resigned to their deaths, yes, but not by their own hand. They were religious & suicide was against the groupthink

The Read book "Alive" is IMO the best source - memories were fresh & the guys wanted the truth to be known.

  • @krakenwave I guess you're right... I'm only citing Zerbino's testimony in the Pablo Vierci book called "La Sociedad de la Nieve", on which the documentary "Stranded" is based. The book was written at the same time cameras were rolling. "On the afternoon of the accident, the pilot requested his gun to kill himself (...) Someone has the revolver and I have the bullets. We told everybody: don't look 4 it, because is not available. There r no bullets to kill yourselves 'coz life's the only option"

  • @krakenwave If you had done your research you would of realized he was completely trapped and pinned by the wreckage. There was absolutely no way of getting him out whatsoever. I know what your saying and i feel you to a certain extent but it was just one of those things they could not do anything to help him. Thats why he asked for his gun so he could kill himself it was that bad. Im sure if they could of got him out and helped him they would of. These were very good people that did so much...

  • It's hard to believe anyone would survive the crash! Why were they flying so low, I guess I'll look it up and for those that think the acting is lame there was a movie of this made in the 70's and jmo I thought it better.

  • @msjosephine2

They weren't "low" they just went through a normal flight path across the Andes when the weather was crap and then they got confused about when to turn North to descend into Chile Santiago. The plane turned early and hence too low for the huge great mountains still in front of them - they hit some and...here they are

  • @krakenwave I understand bad weather but I hope I'm never on a fight were the pilot gets confused

  • The acting is atrocious.

  • damn, 10 minutes in the cold and he turns into an insane toddler

  • lol i love this movie but the acting is just so lame

  • @MrKartoon18 in real life, the acting is just as lame..

  • @MrKartoon18 well wf would you react like in this sitsuation?

  • JESUS!!!!!!

  • wow...do you really need to use the word F***OT with such a sensitive matter on the screen. jeeze.

  • I can't see how this part is violent, the most violent part so far is when they crash and when the poor fella fly into the wall.

  • they were inexplicably lucky to land that way in the midst of the rocks!!!

  • roberto canessa is like bad ass

  • what moron flagged this?;S

  • @Nonchelanteful one who was born with a cell phone in the cradle))

  • i saw the documentary on the history channel and i never felt this emotional like EVER! i even cried.

  • The acting is quite poor in this movie. They should redo it, because it is such an amazing story.

  • @JACKOTACO I agree. I saw the Alive Documentary on the history channel and man this story is so amazing. The actual survivors had accents. I wonder why they didnt have the actors at least use accents.

  • @ronin29607

Yup, I saw it last night as well. I mean at least make it in Spanish.. It is hard to believe somebody nicknamed Nando(Fernando) and speaks English without an accent.

  • @ronin29607 Americans are known to do poor accents anyways even English accents xD (though English actors do very well American accents methinks). Anyways this movie is an american movie & it was made for the american audience so the english language would be easier to comprehend, it's understandable. I think it would be the same situation with actors/accents if uruguayans made a movie based on non-native personalities; actors that can do accents are hard to find that you just do away with it.

  • hmm...this movie had a lot more potential, the acting its just not that great, but still it's a true story and its still great

  • Yall ever seen my tevo alternative to this year book

  • @diliprai jesus is real!!!!!!

  • @mamon363 well did you saw him(jesus)?jesus was a bedtime story created by Jews and became a white man religion later. today the white man is trying to impose their religion on others.

  • JESUS!

  • jesus!!!!!!

  • jesus!!!!!!

  • 0:10

Never seems to make me stop laughing

  • To the cast and crew of this great depiction/movie....KUDOS!! ! !! great acting

  • such a terrible reenactment, like people would be that calm after people were ripped out of a plane and all that. fuck

  • @macaframa12 Hey I just crashed in the Andes LOL CALL HELP KTHXBAI

  • One of those guys looks like Lionel Messi.

  • this happen in 1972, but if it were to happen today they problably would had been carrying cellphones and use them to call for help, and maybe a laptop to contact friends on facebook or twitter.

  • @robiking011 you are right, see what happened with the chilean miners, they didn't had all that but once they were found they were provided with everything, even a tv and a special everyday diet!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Im confused.. so which is safer? the front or the back of the plane?

  • @minq the middle

  • planes should have blow bags for the pilots ^^

  • Hey I talked with Roberto yesterday...

Believe it or not he came to my school and gave a seminar and the movie is dead on to what he told us....

And for the record he was very white, and whoever is as ignorant as to think south Americans are brown are plain racist and prejudiced

  • @martineizer1 yes I'm argentinian and white, besides these boys were not exactly poor, most upper and middle-class people in Argentina and Uruguay are white, but in South America overall most people are dark-skinned I think. It's the aboriginal blood.

  • LMFAO ! The Mechanic is funny as fuck . xD

  • Lol these actors are awfully freakin' calm considering what just happened lol

  • @goyanks1302 i was thinking he exact same thing.

  • i enjoyed this movie and i am 13 my family told me what happend in real life and it shocked me words cant explain what they felt but i think my favorite part is when that guy got up and yelled jesus but awesome movie
