Wright is basically describing "what goes around comes around" and/or "you reap what you sow" as a universal principle. Falwell and Robertson however are saying we were attacked as part of God's vengeance.

I think they're quite different. Falwell and Robertson talk about what the US has tolerated within it, not about what it has done as a nation. To explain by example, it is not the US's policy to have a million abortions a year, also not domestic policy to force a percentage of people to be gay. They are opposed to the US tolerating what its people do.
Whereas Wright talks about what the US has done, overseas as a matter of policy. You may disagree on specifics. But that's the difference.

So, not only is he calling all White people rich and controlling is racist but I mean first off using "White" makes no sense. There are many Catholics, Italians, Greeks, Spanish who are white and have been discriminated against because maybe they have dark hair and features by WASPS. You really think it's racist to observe that America is run by rich people, a small elite and that by-and-large they're white? That not racist, that's observant. Factually it is incontrovertible.
Show me one racist remark that Jeremiah Wright makes. I disagree with the clips being looped on the radio and TV. He is only bitter and paranoid during these remarks. But never does he say white people are inferior.
He's not a black supremacist - not ONCE does he even come close to saying that black people are superior to white people.
He's not racist, yes he's very angry about his experience with racism in America.
He's not a separatist - this church is part of a white parent organization.
This man has NEVER preached that white people are the devils. This man has NEVER said that whites are inferior to blacks or blacks superior to whites.
This man has decried and bemoaned racism in American society. The few clips from over 35 years make him look bitter and angry doing it; but in not one of them does he say white people are the devil.
It is the black community that should be afraid of Obama and his bigoted racist rabid preacher. They are creating more racial division. You may want to take note that Obama's church cleaned up their entire "it's all about blacks" message on their website. If it was so right, they would not have done that. Pastor Wright's chickens have come home to roost and he sounds like Hannibal Lector Ssssssssssss and Obama is in the snake pit with him.
I'm a little angry about the biased media coverage this church is getting; but nothing makes me as angry as the fact that conservatives like to point out black pathologies - high out of wedlock births, shorter lifespans, lower income, lower wealth, etc. And when a man comes up with a value system to address these serious ills on the Chicago south side they label him a racist for prescribing black solutions to black problems. It's ridiculous!!!
The media is playing videos that were bought from the church that is not bias it's facts & the FACTS are that this kind of hateful speech KEEPS a division between the races & it KEEPS blacks focused on the past slavery when there is no one left alive that had a damn thing to do with it. And for the record, the video was about the Falwell/Robertson discussion. To bring up comments from the obscure Bob Jones made several decades ago at the end of the video is irrelevant.

as a white male, I believe that the Obama-wright controvery is a set-up much like that between Jesus and Judas or MLK and Rosa Parks. Two people that he has spoken out against and condemned for years and not just because bad publicity surfaced, like Obama has. McCain has embraced them for political utility after calling them agents of intolerance. He's willing to hug them in his thirst for power and glory. Also he has spoken at Bob Jones University, after initially refusing to do so due to regressive policies on race. And McCain said he was "honored" to receive Hagee's endorsement. McCain is worst than Obama, he hugs bigots to whom he has no personal connection simply due to political expediency.

Falwell and Robertson were vilified for their statements, just like this pastor. The REAL issue is not that this one pastor is saying these things, it is the response of the congregation. Religious organizations that support a candidate from the pulpit like this should have their tax exemption revoked. Our tax dollars should not go to support political hate speech. Those that support these institutions with their decade's long attendance hold responsibility for that support.

I would like to respond to how "racists" will flock to the polls just to vote against Obama.The local newspaper in Atlanta ran a poll at a black college about whether black women should support Hillary because she's a woman or Obama because he's black! Never mind the issues, let's base our choice on race or sex! Well as no surprise, the majority polled said they would vote for Obama.Voting for someone because of race is just as racist as NOT voting for someone because of their race.
A couple of differences come to mind.
1) I don't think any political contenders were attending the church of Falwell or Robertson.
2) Just because there are nut cases on the right, does not excuse nut cases on the left.

The south had slavery 150 years ago when the Africans took the opportunity to create a slave trade. After the Civil War, the US should have sent the blacks back to Africa and not even asked for a refund. The US has spent trillions of dollars on programs and aid for blacks and in turn get nothing but racist attitudes like Wright and a high rate of crime. It was a bad investment. It would be much cheaper if US paid the expense of relocating blacks to Africa.

I just realized the difference between Falwell/Robertson and Wright, and why his views are so much more abhorent to some people than theirs are:
Wright is basically describing "what goes around comes around" and/or "you reap what you sow" as a universal principle. Falwell and Robertson however are saying we were attacked as part of God's vengeance.
Guess you can't argue with God, which means what they said is perfectly excusable, but what Wright said is totally wrong... or something...

The difference is that Fairwell/Robertson say that [the irrational/unfair] God is punishing Americans for living their own life as they see it fit while Rev. Wright is saying that they are punished for doing wrong.
The reason for the different reaction are that Americans like the innocent victim role and a meaningless allegation.

Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell were and are vilified by the media as right-wing, religious nutjobs. The media was so critical of and sensitive to Falwell's comments that he was eventually forced to retract his statements about 9/11.
The idea that this explosion of anti-American sentiment (displayed in various sermons) by Rev. Wright is uncharacteristic of his 30 year career is ridiculous. I grew up on the Southside. Black southside churches are bastions of this sentiment.

People need to stop equating critisism of American POLICY with criticism of AMERICA. If we can't disagree with the actions of our government without being called UnAmerican then we cease to be a productive democracy. I think they're quite different. Falwell and Robertson talk about what the US has tolerated within it, not about what it has done as a nation. To explain by example, it is not the US's policy to have a million abortions a year, also not domestic policy to force a percentage of people to be gay. They are opposed to the US tolerating what its people do.
Whereas Wright talks about what the US has done, overseas as a matter of policy. You may disagree on specifics. But that's the difference.

McCain is worst than Obama, he hugs bigots to whom he has no personal connection simply due to political expediency.

I agree i think that McCain has done this for political expedience and it is sad to say that all politicians do this including Obama. It is part of the political game. However it is obvious that McCain does not truly like or endorse these fanatics or their views. The same cannot be said about Obama and his pastor.

Falwell and Robertson were vilified for their statements, just like this pastor. The REAL issue is not that this one pastor is saying these things, it is the response of the congregation. This train of thought is being preached in many black churches. Jesus was black, 40 acres and a mule, Aids and Drugs were designed to destroy African Americans, if you are not aware of these ideas, you don't understand the conversation. Obama may be the reason white america and black america finally hear this

Religious organizations that support a candidate from the pulpit like this should have their tax exemption revoked. Our tax dollars should not go to support political hate speech. Those that support these institutions with their decade's long attendance hold responsibility for that support.

He also led a diverse congregation that was and still is a pillar of the South Side and the entire city of Chicago. It's a congregation that does not merely preach social justice but acts it out each day, through ministries ranging from housing the homeless to reaching out to those with HIV/AIDS.

in my own point of veiw, i think that everyone is bound to there own opinions but i think that all the things he said was true and white america dont wants to except the fact that america was not made for black people and poor white people. that it was made for the rich, but cant back that up without looking at who really built this country.BLACK PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would like to respond to how "racists" will flock to the polls just to vote against Obama.The local newspaper in Atlanta ran a poll at a black college about whether black women should support Hillary because she's a woman or Obama because he's black! Never mind the issues, let's base our choice on race or sex! Well as no surprise, the majority polled said they would vote for Obama.Voting for someone because of race is just as racist as NOT voting for someone because of their race.

People will tend to vote for someone who looks like them. It's not necessarily racism. That said, I'm voting Obama and I'm white.
