  • Helio needs to follow the rules sometimes. I understand in the heat of the moment that stuff happens and you forget some things, but its been happening alot for him. Maybe he needs to have a hard penalty next time... he can't always use the excuse, "I let him have space..." or "I allowed him some room"... he just needs to cool out, respect the rules that happen to be in place (even if they are dumb), and go with the flow of fair play!

  • Unfortunately, I have to say this: Thank God Edmonton won't be back at IZOD IndyCar Series 2011 calendar.

  • @ATDOINFERNO Sorry to say but it is! Edmonton Indy will be on July 24th...

  • @ErynnGirl1 Yeah, it was confirmed about 5 months ago...different layout, though (and hopefully without that ridiculous rule..."not allowed to defend", pfff...)

  • Helio was fined $60,000 for his outburst. What an unjust punishment, talk about adding insult to injury. First the race win and then the fine and probation for the rest of the year, Helio should quit and race in F1

  • NOW HEAR THIS!!!!! Rumor, serious rumor, that the whole thing was a planned fake. Seriously! There is an investigative reporter from a major newspaper putting together a story on the IRL in an attempt to reveal the financials over the histroy of the league. This reporter has a mole at the IRL. That mole said this whole "blocking" thing was a set-up and they knew Helio had the "acting" tools to pull it off. This was a contrivance to steal headlines from the Brickyard 400. That was the IRL plan.

  • Should have been a position swap as standard practice although since this type of blocking could cause a wreck its understandable they might insist on a drive thru. Without this new rule drivers could block almost all passes which forces passes on the outside which wouldn't work. Splitting up the track promotes passing and if the leader blocks by staying inside and crawling around the corner without swinging wide hed go SO slow drivers taking the right line would hit him or crash trying not to.

  • Open wheel needs these rules or it would be a total disaster day in and day out. If you don't like it go watch the Red Neck Racing League aka NASCAR

  • This situation would not have occurred if penske hadn't put hard tyres on power's car

  • It’s really sad that Helio was robbed by such a poor call, I believe he made a great race, he shouldn’t be apologizing, race officials should apologize to Helio.

We shouldn’t allow this kind of tinkering with the race results, letting guys deciding who wins from a desk is just not good for the sport. It’s a great disservice to the racing community, that shouldn’t happen….. do we want a race where drivers surrender their spot to anyone gaining on them?

That is not what racing is about.

  • This was NOT a block!! The rule states that the driver cannot be on the inside half of the track except to pass, which is obviosly what Helio was trying to do. He should definitely NOT have been black flagged for this!!

  • @Jan0452

Who was he passing. He stayed down on the bottom of the track and the 12 car had to move back up to pass him. By staying low he kept him from getting around him and forced him to the high side. I agree this is good racing and the way it should be expecially on a road course, but it can also be dangerous. But in the end if the rule says you can't block then they got it right. As far as the rule being a bad rule I can agree to that too.

  • im fucking done. I will not watch another race until this gets reversed, but it wont so im done forever ill stick to F1 and NASCAR. what a joke this is.

  • That interviewer is dumb, he didn't know Helio was being sarcastic about talking to his attorneys.

  • Poor Helio

  • you won Helio, but they robbed, there will be another day, you will triumph , god speed

  • As a fan of racing sport for 30 yrs; I am outraged and infuriated at race officials, how can they rob Helio of a victory earned at the track. I have seen the incident many times and I see nothing wrong with Helio’s driving. Brian Barnhart made an obvious wrong call but didn’t have the courage to say “I was wrong".

It’s a great disservice to the racing community, that shouldn’t happen….. do we want a race where drivers surrender their spot to anyone gaining on them?? That is not racing!!

  • Helio won that race, bottom line ! That was total B.S. !!!

  • This weekend was a HUGE JOKE for race fans... first F1...but thats "normal", including Ferrari...but here?! in the Indy?! They have to race, these bullshit rules make racing so boring... Helio didnt block... thats all..

  • I just have to say that, what Indycar did to Helio, is a massive disgrace!!! I just can't believe they call it "blocking"... my God! this is racing, where's the entertainment if you just give your position that easily??? just ridiculous! ... and more! he wasn't blocking, they were side by side!! not one behing the other. Helio is a great man and a great driver, he doesn't deserve those things... he should be champion, long ago. Sorry!

  • @georgecross85 where was the block? They made a huge error.

  • @nflfan85 There was no block. It was just side by side racing. This is why people love watching the road courses cause it's so exciting. So I guess Indy Car doesn't want to keep the fans happy, and just make up rules as they go along. It's starting to look like NASCAR out there now.

  • @nflfan85 I don't understand your point!!! as I said before, It was not "blocking"... obviously what indycar did to Helio was an infamous mistake.

  • @georgecross85 dont b sorry. Ur right. Im not even an INDY fan (NASCAR) but its pretty obvious tht Helio couldn't do anything without causing a wreck...total pussy bullshit. I'll hav to agree with u and KingLukas00 on this. Total disgrace n embarrassment, no wonder F1's so much better: bcuz its REAL RACING!

  • Helio keep fighting, you won the race

  • You call that blocking!!?? WTF is this shit, to me a Brit a huge F1 fan I am laughing my arse off at you guys if thats an illegal move....we have stuff like that in F1 all the time...Indycar isnt racing..its soft gorly BS!!!!! Furious I wasted 2 hours on this crap

  • @KingLukas00 Hey man, I like F1 too, and while I'm glad you agree with the masses of Indy fans, you could be a little more respectful to the series. I watch F1 races that are bad, too, bud I still respect racing as racing. Maybe IndyCar needs stewards so Barnhart isn't a freakin' dictator.

  • @bubthunder No I take your point my friend....I had just watched a recorded version of the race as I was out at the time and my post was kind of in the heat of the moment, I love your Nascar and Indy and just feel at times it is a little too regulated. To me you are only blocking if you move more than once on your defensive line...apologies if I offended guys.

  • P.T should have won the 2002 indy 500, and Helio should have won this race both were bullshit calls

  • @notyetpro1 exactly and tracy never acted like this and it was the indy 500

  • @StickyBadger Because Tracy it's just an ice man... it's as simple as that!!! Helio maybe he was wrong to react aggressively, but he's right...I would hit whoever was in front of me. XD

  • 2002 indy 500, sorry dork i don't feel bad for you at all!

  • This guy has been getting away with blocking for years, finally Barnhart did something about it.

  • he had that won. I Think indycar needs to look over that and make a better call. The only way Helio was blocking was if indy has a specific line going into turn 1 that they told the drivers in the drivers meeting. When you watch it he did move to the left a little but still he was not blocking from what I saw. I would apeal that call for sure!! Come on. And whats up with Will Power he said he blocked i dont he did but as a driver i can see where the blocking came from.

  • He gave room to basically everyone, Dixon wanted to change his line but Helio had to turn there otherwise he would've got some grass and maybe even crash
