i love gigli. he tried to bridge the gap between the art music audience and the general public. it is a shame he did not succeed. i find it interesting that everyone is so glad that he is preserved on film and complimenting his acting while in the same breath most will lambaste lanza, whose voice was better, for doing the same. when are the "know-it-alls" going to finally let go of their high-handed treatment of lanza?
Wonderfull!!!!, it is great to see Gigli performing very well as an actor...in the other hand, with that wonderful angel voice that will resound for ever in our hearts...Que lindo!!!!BRAVOOO!!!
Thanks to film, we are able to see and hear the amazing Gigli. This is as sweet, sublime and mesmerizing a lyric tenor as was ever recorded. A great rendition of the most achingly romantic aria in opera: bravo, Beniamino
I love the comical element in this film scene! The minute, the clever manager mentions his old mother as a trigger word, the poor Italian tenor is lost..I think Gigli was very aware of the comical element himself because he is in trouble not to laugh at the end of the argument.Have you noticed the three girls, obviously very dilligent students, following every note in the sheets and therefore missing the heavenly beauty of the music?
High C is not the most important note anyhow and caruso and tucker had it but also it was not their best note either so 3 of the best ever and not necessarily high C tenors!
Great! Thanks for adding this...a real collector's item. And a good chance to hear Gigli sing a high C, which he characteristically avoided if he possibly could. He was never very comfortable above Bb, but this is an earlier recording and he sounds great! Thank you
His phrasing here leaves much to be desired.

What a beautiful voice. I always compare to the Great One. Not bad at all. In fact, my now second favorite for Che Gelida Manina.

Wonderful to hear this aria in the original key. How beautifully he floats his sound and fluidly integrates the famously difficult high C.

The voice of an angel. One of the greatest lyrical tenors ever - he gently caresses own's very soul...
Thanks for posting!
