  • This just goes to prove what I have always said. The greatest security risk to any computer, regardless of the OS is the user himself. Moral of the story, don't install stupid stuff!

  • a porn site...

  • giving an app root access is like making the app god on your system.

you could even screw osx badly without root permissions -- with root-access: the bad code doesnt have to do workarounds e.g., but has the right to run any code.

sad thing is, a lot of mac users dont know this. if i can code a kindgartencode app which acts like a simple trojan horse in 10 hours for the proof of concept - with no coding background at all, imagine somebody with skills and the actual effort to do bad things.

  • I have this problem. How do I get rid of it.

  • very informative. ill watch myself now.

  • I thought the sound quality on this video was a GREAT improvement. It was odd to me that I was only getting a screen update every few seconds, more like a slide show. BTW, although this trojan is evil and dangerous, I can't help but admire the trojan writers' ingenuity, to create something invisible unless you type in a wrong URL. Its wrong, but it's clever.

  • Thank you for the information.

The slight echo is bothering me a bit. Maybe it's just me :(

  • This demo is of a .dmg file installed on a Mac OSX machine.

Yes, this trojan works on Macs.

  • There isn't much that Apple or anyone else can do to stop this sort of thing. Trojans don't rely on security flaws in operating systems, just on the gullibility of inexperienced users.

Just be very careful about what you install on your computer.

  • The DMG files are detected by our gateway products. Other vendors do as well. So a Mac sitting within such an environment would have some protection.

And there are vendors that offer Mac antivirus software. Those vendors will detect this type of threat.
