Oh! This happened when the catenary on the Hell Gate bridge through to New Rochell had to undergo repairs, so Amtrak brought out a P32-ACDM from Sunnyside yard to pull the HHP-8 to New Rochelle, then the P32-ACDM (which is #716) turned around on a small spur siding which had a wye, and then waited at New Rochelle to take an Acela, into Penn Station. Looks ridiculous, but it worked. Also, nice catch with that Northeast Direct amfleet coach at :27!! :)
great video hey im lucky becaus my aunt lives in south bronx (1/2 miles north of the hell gate or the approach and somethimes i go to the roof and watch the amtrak and freight action
Last week none of the AEM-7's were out and they had to supplement the HHP-8's with P42s. I caught a video of two P42's towing an HHP-8 on a regional train.
The power is still being worked on the hell gate Bridge, what they did because of power problems, they put a diesel on the trains until New Rochelle, then they were able to resume on their own power the rest of the way, acela's had to terminate in New Haven or Stamford since they are not able to be attached to diesels. I got stranded today on acela 2253. I was gonna take that to NY, but luckly I was able to get on Metro North to Grand Central and then fly home
No it was deadheading because I talked to the engineer & the conductors & they evacuated all of the passengers off 2255 & ran back to Boston South Station deadheading! I took video of this so I have proof.
A few rarities:
#1 Obviously diesel pulling electric.
#2 654 was the only HHP-8 at the time to still have Acela stickers on it.
#3 A Northeast Direct coach is 2nd to last in the consist.

It didn't break down, there was a power outage on the Hell Gate Bridge down in New York.
murjax 2 years ago
i thought it broke down.
Dash9CW 2 years ago
If it broke down they would've just sent another electric up there to pull it.
